Hello Mike, I hope you are well. Just wanted to give you another big thank you. Weather in New Jersey has been crazy. One day the sun is out, the next it's cloudy and cold. Any plans for my regular ride (2007 Heritage) are put on hold due to finances. I turned to my ridgid 60's Shovelhead project, but felt overwhelmed. Watching your videos has renewed my focus. Your pleasant demeanor, and how you work is the gold standard. Part and tool layout, one thing at at a time, check it, move on, brought me back to my excitement as a young man to enjoy working on my bike. Thanks again! Cheers!

Yah, it works, but, Panhead pushrods are much shorter than those on Shovelheads.

Mike, I love your videos because you are NOT the (in your face, over theatrical, or the Drama type, or a sensationalist). Your videos are down to Earth with a straight on laid back approach with no garbage included/music & flashy content. A straightforward How To Do video that Orange County Choppers should've had but didn't. It was a horrible bad drama based on the world of custom bikes. And it stunk so badly-it made you physically sick. Thank you sir for doing the Right thing. Best wishes. P.S. I'm a foot peg guy, not a floor board type. Hate those things which scrape badly in turns. I never did understand why H.D. used the small size wheels & tires. The wheels should be at minimum 18". I love the (Tall & Fat rubber also on those 18" rims.) The bike is up and NO parts scraping in the corners. I live where the twisties abound. These bikes will handle with no mods if they're off the ground.

Hello from Sweden on this day with Rain👋. It is always nice to look at your videos. I did look at all 4 of the last videos one after the other 👍👍👍. I must day that Freds panhead is lovely 🤩. I don’t think you are rude to Camera Mike, it only shows that you are good friends 😃. I hope you start it up when it is ready for it. What will be different when you drive it with the new cam? Thank you for the lessons👍. Kjell Blomstrand 🇸🇪

Great video again. I've done this drill so many times, and your video really illustrates how important it is to keep the push rod covers up out of the way. I skip that step too often and end up fumbling around wasting time. Can't wait for the next video to hear this baby idle with the AB cam in it. Changed out a cam in a shovel motor just recently and the new cam gear was sketchy. When I checked the sliding fit against the pinion gear, it got really tight in the same spot every other rotation, so it wasn't pinion shaft runout. The cam gear may be off center with the shaft, or a couple of teeth not quite right, or whatever. So I used my bottle jack press to swap gears with the old cam, and now all is copacetic. I always spin the motor and check stuff after every step, and this time it paid off.

'You lift me up, when Andrews say you should do, you lift me up, when tulips need to breathe. You are the reason I am put here, you are the hill, beneath my little wheel.' - Maybe Kipling had hydraulic tappets in mind when he wrote M'Andrew's Hymn, - 150 years ago . . . 'Lord, thou hath made this World below . . . the shadow of a dream.' (Beat that for an opening line if you can - a full poem in one bloody sentence! The git had talent. Y'all : )

Hey Mike, I have a good friend that has a 1960 panhead with a mousetrap on it. He's having some difficulty getting it to work properly . He's using a 68 and later 5 disk clutch setup and the book says the 67 and back used a 3 disk setup. Someone told him that was the reason he was having a problem. I can't understand how that would make a difference. I know you had a video with using a new style Barnett that was incompatible with a mousetrap but I don't understand why a 68 5 disk setup would be a issue. I watched your video on the adjustment 10 times or more. Great information.
@pacificmike9501Ай бұрын
I don't know the overall thickness. Always take this in order, starting at the clutch. Barnett clutches, that are replacements for originals, certainly work with a mousetrap. Put it back together, as per the service manual and our video. If you have too many parts in your clutch basket, eliminate what you need to.

Is it me? I really like the lifter setup on the pan. They are small diameter the evo lifters. I wonder if they are more durable? I’m getting adjustable push rods on my evo’s. As they go through lifters fast and I don’t like taking the rocker box’s off to change them out. Thank you for your video’s love them.
@pacificmike95012 ай бұрын
They are different. For your Evo, buy a good set of aftermarket lifters (Jim's, S&S, Feuling ).

Is the procedure the same on hydraulic pushrods on a shovelhead ? How long does it usually take for them to bleed down ?
@pacificmike95012 ай бұрын
Yes, and the time varies. Give 'em half an hour.

Do you prefer the solid lifters or the hydraulic my 57 has the solid inserts to replace the hydraulic and I am wondering, which way I should go in the future
@pacificmike95012 ай бұрын
Depends on the cam you use. Just a matter of preference which way you go. I like solids (not adapters) in Panheads. Jim's makes great lifters for Panheads, solids or hydraulics.

Hello Mike. I really enjoy your videos. I have a question for you. I have a 1970 93” strocker shovel head. What Mikuni carb should I put on it. Have a super e on it now. And I’m at 2600 feet elevation where I do most of my riding.
@pacificmike95012 ай бұрын
As I recall, the Mikuni HSR series comes in 42, 45, and 48 millimeter sizes. I would think a 42 should do it fine. If you believe bigger is better, you could go to a 45. On motors 100" or better, I've used 45. Was it better or necessary? I don't know. Just for refference, 1 3/4" is 44 millimeters (very close to it).

How do you know the lifter is pumped up when you start ?
@pacificmike95012 ай бұрын
Feel it before startimg the engine.
@stephenbowser30522 ай бұрын
@ Mike you soaked the lifters in oil before making the 4 turn adjustments. Or you felt like they were all ready pumped up because it was running motor just prior to cam replacement ?
@pacificmike95012 ай бұрын
They were full, right out of the motor. But if they weren't, for sure full, I'd adjust them the same. You feel them as you compress them. They compress quite easily when they aren't full.
