So for anyone wondering, Ethan never died in the books the show is based on. In fact, the book series ends with Ethan and about 250 other townspeople going back into the hibernation pods for like 78,000 years. The ending of the first season, minus ethans death, was where the books finished basically. Everything with the doctor and Jason being the tyrant was completely made up by the studio.

It amazes me how many mistakes they had within David's plan, its almost as if he saved way too many random people who didn't have much to contribute. They should have been collecting a bunch of doctors, construction workers, teachers, people who could take care of animals, farmers, people with promising good genes, so on and so forth. That's the first fail. They didn't grab too many people that were actually useful. The second was the architect for the town. Like they didn't think to create a place to keep animals and crops guarded, other then that this was a good show, I just wish we had answers as to how the Abbis came to be, or how David new the end was near,

There's this movie called Downsizing, where people shrink themselves, well, a visionary makes an underground shelter to protect humanity from a probable environmental crisis coming their way, and many volunteer for that, just making it volunteer would have saved David from MANY problems. It would have also secured scientists and artists to join, it would have Also gave him more funding thanks to millionaires investing their life savings into the project.

yeah, but these types of shows are really hard to write. The start centered around a few characters, but continued to expand to more. It was an ensemble cast, and trying to give everyone roles and importance, is really hard. Atleast the ending still was tidy.

Basically, this show's plot boils down to "What if a crazy doomsday prepper was also a multi-billionaire?", basically some fat, ugly Kevin decides he knows best and needs to live past the end of the world, so he pays off a handful of important people to build him a creepy Big Brother town and a thousand freeze chambers, then kidnaps people who are depressed anyway, either by snatching them out of hospitals or drugging them. He revives only some of them when he feels like it, going through the trouble of kidnapping entire families only to revive part of the family then the next part months later for no reason then he probably finds it funny, all while declaring himself mayor of doomsdayville. The only reason he doesn't tell people "hey I kidnapped you 2000 years ago and now everyone else in the world is dead or feral" is because he tried that with the first batch of peeps he napped and a bunch of them killed themselves cause the man is a fucking monster. Frankly, the OG mayor deserved a far more karmic death for this BS, the fact he died a "hero" and people actually wasted time and resources to build an ugly statue of him in the middle of the town is probably the biggest FU to the plot possible.

David's plan could have worked if he wouldn't let his emotions and his feelings get into him and hired people with core purpose of survival (not Pam that goes suicidal) and do these things: 1- He should have brought people with actual skills and experiences from fields which are essential and crucial for a society that are building from a scratch, for example: (Doctors, Construction workers, Teachers/Professors, Drill instructors, Engineers, Geo/Bio/Epidemy/Pharma Scientists, People with rare special immune systems and special blood groups, etc.) 2- They should have built granary sites, barns, farm fields, gardens, etc. for the food/herb supply (And for God's sake the year is 4028 there, David should have hired some people there for the task that I mentioned like making them to work for 1 year (After 1 year, another person replace them and works for 1 year, rinse and repeat until a certain point in time where everything and everyone goes into hibernation) then as the payment they can have their own hibernation chamber and a house) Note: Maybe they could have used full auto robots and machinery for food/herb supply but it still needed some people with experiences to monitors them. 3- They should have built more hibernation chambers like 10Mil more and not just for human but for animals, fruits, veggies, minerals (eatable, drinkable, constructible, etc.) and anything essential that could spoil/rotten/destroys by the span of a decade or two. 4- They should have had their hands on blueprints of anything that is crucial and essential for the survivor after they awake. 5- They should have had Electricity and Energy (Solar panel, Centrifuges, Nuclear Fusion Reactors, etc.), Weaponry (Heavy guns, Missiles, Artillery), Vehicles (Military: Microwave ray gun, Humvee, etc./Normal cars), Airforce (Helicopter gunship, etc.) Conclusion: There are things that he and his team have done from the points that I made (more or less) for the survival but there are still more things he could have done, like having connection to the top elites of the government to have more resources, workers and money to be more precisely prepare for the apocalypse, but he f**ked it up.
