Very good work. I have a W201 190D 2.5 (in Australia) in very good condition both mechanically and cosmetically, 275000 km, about 170000 miles. Love the car, seems like it will go for ever.

I learn so much from you my friend and I am twice your age. I know that you mostly focus on the older vehicles. However, I simply wanted to share an experience on my modern x204 glk350. Even with complex electronics I perform my own maintenance. I was receiving an auxiliary battery malfunction. I purchased a $200 oem Mercedes battery. It was a simple replacement. The dealership charges approx $500 for this replacement. The purpose of this small battery is to operate the electronic gear selector in the event of a main battery malfunction and the need for a tow. Once I replaced the battery, I tested the old battery and placed it on a trickle charger. It charged fully and tests "ok". So please have this in your wealth of knowledge. These auxiliary batteries are salvageable and rechargeable and are not charged by the alternator. Keep up your great work. Nastrovia!

Thanks a lot for your support and for sharing your experience. I like newer Benzes too. But my heart will always stay with old school ones and I'll be driving them for the rest of my life. Nothing will outlive Classic Mercedes. Not even Tesla. I work on many different cars, and newer ones too. I just don't upload many videos about them. Maybe I should☺

Great video I have a 1998 r129 with same issue oil housing gasket but it also has a oil cooler joined to it is it easier to get at it from underneath the car not a lot of room to work on it so I'm dreading doing the job lol m104 2.8 engine

You’ll probably have to remove the intake manifold to make it easier. Order new intake manifold gasket and throttle body gasket just in case

Nice job. You do better work in the parking lot (is that a military base?) than 90% of mechanics do in modern shops. (I use abandoned K-Mart lots myself).

Hi Vito, Great video. I'm about to do this job myself. The fact that you didn't show the reattachment of the housing to the engine block with the new gasket makes me think that it's quite easy. Do you have any recommendations for lining up the gasket? is it as easy as getting the bolts through the holes on the gasket and lining it up as you tighten? ive heard others using a bit of water soluble grease to "stick" the gasket to the oil filter housing.

You need some patience doing this job. Make sure you put the long middle bolt through the housing hole. Otherwise you won’t be able to install that bolt because of the steering box. Then, Grab a few more bolts and and put them through the holes. Keep the gasket on and make sure those bolts go through the gasket. Finally, install the housing onto the block. Keep checking and make sure the gasket isn’t getting pinched. Tighten German Tight. Check for leaks once you start the engine. I hope I explained well enough. I didn’t use the sealant.
