The things that excite landrover owners!That bloody part causes lots of grief, oil leaks from that thermostat o ring to the hose o rings, as well as broken off oil pressure switches. If you are going near that part you want to get a new hose flange and correct o ring and an oil pressure switch beforehand, otherwise you will be off the road waiting for those bits.

Mike you truely are a lifesaver whenever I have to work on my 300tdi I always watch the appropriate video a couple of times over this definitely helps heaps and you start your job full of confidence, I really like when you point out the little important things one must look out for as to prevent doing damage or making f--- ups.

Love the experimental videos Mike. Many years ago I had a VHS of Sooty doing simple science with Sweep and Sue. Can't think why I just remembered that... ;-)

I’m really glad you made this video as it explains why my oil thermostat is leaking oil so badly!!! I think I will do an in-car repair as my special engine mounts surround the oil filter housing. I hope a good sealant will do the job if I cannot remove the thermostat housing completely!!! Thank you so much for this video 🤗👍🔧

On the 12J-200Tdi housings, the thermostat body also moves in to block the direct passageway as the cooled passage opens. I suspect the 300 is the same. On my engine, the oil pressure wasn't great when hot (rebuilt engine, so suspect the cam shaft bushes or the valves in the banjo bolts for the piston jets), but removing the washer from under the head of the oilstat increased oil pressure. Some engines had the washer, some didn't. I have never seen an explanation of why that was, but my oil temperature is controlled well with the washer removed because of how the stat moves into the direct bore.

I didn't get into 200Tdi much so I will rake your word for that but I haves een a few comments on low OP for the 200tdi

Hi mate i had a leak on my transit one kept leaking coolant over night, Undone bolt pulled out and was no thermostat and rubber washer was knackered. New part had the thermostate so changed over. Problem ive had also struggling with was bad idle when hot. Changed alot sensors on van and now i think this has cured rough idle.

Hi Mike, I am very impressed of Your work. I whish You could move to southern Sweden, I would certainly be Your first customer with my 90" 300Tdi . You are making the best; in my oppinion, Landrover tech videos, I have seen on KZbin or any other place. . Funny enough ,about the little thermostats,. I have a quite similar one in my central heatings "Ladomat", a three way circulation pump. Makes the boiler come up to heat before it let the hotwater round in the radiators. Think Landrover bought those at the lokal VVS guy :-)))

Thank you! I am quite familiar with Ladomat!

Thanks for this video, vert useful and thanks for driving ref for the piece. On the way it works, acording to me it is logixal that first the oil go thru the filter and go or not to the cooler What do you think ?

Does the oil pressure sensor measure the pressure before or after the filter? I would assume it takes the reading after, which would make the most sense.

I have oil leak near the oil housing i think is from oil cooler pipe

Bet you it is the O ring on the thermostat housing

Hi, i know this was from 4 years ago and i watch most of your videos here in Scotland, my 200tdi has a oil light on at idle when engine is warm, ive changed the filter and oil, next step was to drop the sump, but do you know if the 200tdi discovery engine has the same style thermostat in it and would it cause the oil light to come on when warm at idle? Rev it up and light goes off. Ive also changed the pressure switch, thanks Jason

As the pump is in the sump, they usually gave little problems The relief valve could be sticking, but it is a long shot. Sounds to me as if it could be worn bearings somewhere or rocker shaft bushes worn

Hi Mike, just found your video here. Thanks a lot, it explains a lot. The oil temperature on my Disco 1 gets way too hot on highway. I suspect the thermostat and ordered 2 pcs. As I need the car and can't wait for the delivery I wonder wether I may take out the thermostat temporarily as a work around. Or does this make it worse?
@BritannicaRestorations4 жыл бұрын
Yes it will make it run hotter as the thermostat is also a valve to control the bypass
@jochenw.64084 жыл бұрын
@@BritannicaRestorations Mike thanks for your reply. Meanwhile I tested the thermostat in hot water and it seems to be OK. Found some rubber remains at the valve. Will reassemble it and make a test drive.

So if in -15-20 weather here in Alberta, Canada if my 300 TDI is not getting much heat into the vehicle. Could it be this oil thermostat sticking open
@BritannicaRestorations5 ай бұрын
Could be, but rare - 300Tdi do not put out a lot of heat when it is very cold - I used to remove the fan in winter as it didn't do much Very common problem for the Tdi in winter

You should measure proper o ring then buy the same size dia and thickness.
@BritannicaRestorations5 жыл бұрын
Problem is here is the O ring deforms into a triangle and is very difficult to determine the original cross section of the O ring
