Thank you for highlighting what CASA is in these cases. It was because of videos like this during the pandemic that I looked into CASA and I’m currently in my second year of helping children navigate through this process. In my county we are not Ad Litems but are more of a sounding board for children and a constant person in their life that they can count on to show up and be there when promised. If you have a soft spot in your heart for kids, there is no more rewarding feeling than being a CASA.

So glad you are involved in Casa! I was an assistant to a family law attorney & eventually was asked by a judge to consider working for Casa. I did- and it was the most rewarding & heartbreaking job I've ever had (thankfully more rewarding than not). I worked in the capital region of NY for many many years. I was often assigned to child in foster care or cps involvement but my hardest cases were extremely ugly custody cases, where both parents had millions to spend on using these kids as pawns. Parents that were well educated & both master manipulators, dr shopping to the highest bidder who would support their side. Same with expert witnesses & counselors, dragging these poor kids through emotional hell. People often assume or judge parents by their income, education, resources etc.- the opposite can be true - you never know what people are hiding behind closed doors.

Thank you for dedicating your time and talents to children who need all the support they can get. Countless times I've seen CASA come in with more accurate and helpful information than even the Dept caseworker. And sometimes when the CW reports that "everything's fine," the CASA will draw the Court's attention to a need that has been overlooked. You're doing invaluable work.

@@-HeyLyd-I can’t argue with the you on the difference between CASA’s and Caseworkers because I agree with you. But having said that, we are assigned to one family while CW’s have many so it’s more likely we’ll pick up on things they don’t. Thanks for your support, it means a lot!

Yep, when you do wrong you need to jump. When you tarnish your character by lying you need to jump. When you don't know who the father of your child is, you got to jump. When you choose drugs over caring for your child, you got to jump. When you fail to recognize how your behaviour affects your child-you got to jump. When you fail to ensure your child is around safe people-you got to jump. When your own family doesn't want to help your child, you got to jump. Hope this woman can mend her bridges and hope society recognizes her accomplishments if they come to pass.

I try so hard to reserve judgment on these cases as I’ve fortunately never been in the parents’ shoes and therefore can’t fully fathom how any of this must feel. That said, this one got me. This mother now has had over a year to work services, make better choices, and cooperate with the department for family placement. The mother knows her child is in a bonded foster home where they’ve lovingly provided for all his physical, emotional, and medical needs for over a year. I really can’t think of anything more cruel than waiting until your termination of parental rights hearing to inquire about family placement options after knowing all of this and refusing to cooperate up to that point in finding potential placement. It’s such a wicked, selfish, and vile thing for this hag to do to her biological child, as if she hasn’t already put him and his foster family through enough turmoil. I don’t wish ill on anyone but I sure hope that ship has sailed, her rights remain terminated, and that this poor child permanently remains in the loving foster home . What a horrible person this “mom” is.

I disagree. If my child was taken, even if I wasn't willing to grasp the gravity of such; the first thing I would do would be to call every family member! A list of names would be the first thing I give to the caseworker. Follow with begging to keep my child with family. How scary to have your child be sent to some stranger & bounced around in the system.
@-HeyLyd-
@-HeyLyd- Жыл бұрын
Parents who don't want to face realities are more concerned about _their_ feelings than their child's feelings. The very first thing a parent should be thinking at removal is, "How will my child feel about being with strangers?" which should prompt them to provide contact info for every responsible family member or friend who could take the child. If parents "don't want to admit to themselves" what's really happening in their lives, how can they make good decisions for their child?

It’s ridiculous that she texted Tasheda about the drug test during her visit with her son. I normally like Tasia, but it that’s her normal practice, she really needs to re-think it. At the very least, an addict will be distracted during the visit, when she should be focusing on her son. I do agree with the termination recommendation. She really hasn’t done much at all to pursue reunification, and she has lied and taken drugs numerous times. With all of his developmental issues, I’m concerned about her possibly having taken drugs while she was pregnant with him. I hope that little boy gets adopted by a wonderful, loving family, and gets all of the help he needs.
@-HeyLyd-
@-HeyLyd- Жыл бұрын
It's clear enough to me that the cw sent the text during the Zoom visit so that mom could not claim (like she has many times before) that there was yet another 'miscommunication' where she didn't receive the request to test. Once mom said that she couldn't make the test and was then told they could discuss it after the Zoom visit, all she had to do was refocus on the visit and call the cw right after. Instead, she was childish and selfish and couldn't let it go. As throughout the case, mom is focused more on fighting the Dept than she is on her relationship with her child.

@-HeyLyd- yes! I'm astounded that others can't see the reasoning for this. When you have someone who consistently claims there was no communication from the worker and consistently has missed communication, a zoom call on her phone is the perfect time. She was the one that chose to not refocus. She made that choice to care more about the drug screen and did It to herself.

By the looks of it this Child will be put in a good home that will be capable of giving this Child the care and love he needs. Hopefully the new parents can get the Child’s name changed, if not the Child could face lots of harassment from other Children because of his first name being Bible. At first i wondered if this mother was dropping out of seeing her little one because she was depressed and and anxious over her past and fearful at the massive prospect of rearing a child... but after the argument with Tasia during the final Zoom call to Bible, over a uds- I think she isjust a combination of lazy, apathetic, and self willed, defiant, short fused and oppositional if she doesn't get her way, determined to do everything her own way if she does it at all, deliberately stubborn, inflexible, won't be told, highly deceptive and dishonest, anti- authoritarian and does everything in her own sweet time. Pain in the rear. You can feel the disappointment for the little boy in the zoom call. Not because he's losing her as a mother - just that a mother could be so unfeeling towards such a tiny litter one.

Little kids don’t do well doing visits over zoom. Very short attention spans make it difficult for them to connect with anyone with that type of visitation. In person should be the only visitation available for age newborn to probably 6 years old. Developmental stages are very impactful for parent-child relationships. If mom has been noncompliant with her parenting plan, she shouldn’t be allowed to drag the process out. Terminate her rights. Nobody is acting in the best interest of the child. It’s become a pissing contest.

And, sadly, this will, one day be cause for great emotional distress on his part... but, THEN, you have a bunch of "adults", "grown ups", "mom's and dad's", just doin' and sayin' the MOST in a public forum that one day, (and you KNOW that old saying " say it, forget it, write it, regret it) through the miracle of archives, that poor child is, not ONLY going to witness the fact that the whole bloody WORLD is privy to the unfortunate events that led to, (whatever/whomever you 🙏 to) willing a better life. BUT, you ALSO have those of you who choose to make fun of a name that he didn't choose for himself, and, more than likely, talking shit around your kids, leading THEM to believe that it's ok to make fun of someone because their name is "different ". I dont know why CPS does not offer inpatient or intensive outpatient drug treatment from the beginning so parents can get on board immediately and they wouldnt need to have so much back and forth with CPS workers who are over worked with many cases to juggle. Not saying this could have helped this mother as she stands in defiance completely but maybe it would have snapped something in her to effectively get her act together for her son. CPS gives clients a parenting plan and lets them loose with making phone calls and arranging a bunch of services where they know that these people have complicated lives. I believe the text amd recording the Zoom visit was a plot to get the mom off her rails and seal the case. That disturbance was an unprofessional move. She may be a liar and a small time criminal but is still a human being who intensely needed a drug program at day one. She may have done all that she did to make it look that she tried to keep the child but in truth she never said she missed him nor said that she was sorry for running the circus that may have saved her a bit. So much effort and she blew it, well thats on her. Glad that her son is safe and will be wanted wherever he ends up....

I dont believe this mother is ready to take full accountability of her actions that led her here which means she isnt reasy to get her child back. However, for Tasia to send the text notification about the drug screen in the middle of a visit is absolutely unacceptable and is instigating behavior in order to get a reaction from the mother. That was the pnly time they filmed the interaction and it also happens to be the only time Tasia sent a drug screen notification during a visit smh. And then when she gets the reaction, she wants to act all righteous and tell the mother this isnt the time to talk about it?!?!? If it wasnt the time to talk about it, its also not the time to send the notification, correct?! Thats the kind of behavior that gives CPS a bad rap. The mother's attorney should have pressed Tasia harder about this and should've straight up asked her if it was appropriate to send the notification during the visit and why could she not have waited 30mins until the visit was over. Again, not saying the mother was ready to get custody back, but 2 wrongs dont make a right.

You might have missed the part where she's incredibly difficult to communicate with and sometimes when you know where someone is, you have to take that moment. I agree it was poorly timed, but I don't believe for a second that it was purposely designed to cause an issue. If mom was an adult she could have been redirected back to focus on her child when instructed to discuss it later. Why is she even checking her texts when she's in a visit?

I get the concern here and agree that this child isn’t safe with mom. HOWEVER- why the hell would you send a text informing Mom she must drug test in the middle of the very short zoom visit with her child? If I didn’t know any better, it would sound like sabotage.

This way she couldn't lie (as usual) and say lack of communication and make sure she did get the message!!! All she had to do was briefly read it and wait for the visit to be over before answering the message. I had to go through all this crap to get custody of my grandchildren, and while yes it is a pain in the butt to have to go out of your way to get the tests done I believe that the children are worth doing it for them. This mother probably knew she would not pass so she did not want to take it!!!

She probably felt overwhelmed, they want you to do all these classes and drug tests so she just went through the motions. She's on probation and you have to go through all their hoops too. Them asking her to drug test while she's having a visit was inappropriate they could have waited 20 more minutes. She has to drug test for probation so why does CPS have to keep pushing the issue? In Michigan they accept the probation department test. Not saying this woman was right in any way however the department had their issues too. She should have visited her child more than she did. There's thousands of women out there that can't have children that would be at every visit and ask for more. Epic fail from BOTH parties
