A UAZ Hunter showed up at our front door step randomly and we felt a need to figure out just what exactly this machine was. Needless to say for the money this is one fun rig. Follow along with Nate as he talks about the details and ride feel of the Hunter.

I use to have one of these when I was a kid. You said that you are not sure why it has two gas tanks. The reason behind that is that this was originally designed as a military vehicle so when you go deep on a mission on enemy's land you use one tank and once that tank is empty you know that you reached the point were you need to turn back if you want to return to the point where you started otherwise you will be stuck in enemy's territory. In the military versions like the one I had, there should be a valve under the driver's seat that would allow you to shift between gas tanks.

I drove an UAZ 1975 model was a tank. Two fuel tanks for long drives plus spare fuel military can for emergencies. Even the Fuel filter was made of steel. Great offroad car! You can fit inside 7 armed soldiers on Seats and extra 3 soldiers sitting behind with the back door open.

The vin comes painted on from factory so idk what kind of steel they use but these things are clearly unbreakable lol...a modern car if u take a bigass hammer to it youd crack it in half.

Thank you very much. I have one as well. Summer time I take off the canvas, bent down the screen and I drive a road legal openair car, what even has not got safety belts, because my one a "retired" army car. I put a diesel Mercedes engine in, since this time I don't have any issues with ignition system and carburator. I day by day amaze about symplicity of this car. Symple, 7 seater, 4x4, the parts are coasts like an icecream. There are army car breaker shops here, everything is available. Cleaning: Just open the doors, and wash by same jetgun inside, as you use for outside. The doors have big pockets, 2 liter of coke is ok. Not fast. But my country is full with speed cameras as well. The UAZ's superpower is: light. This car's weight is 1500 kg. Amazingly good at offroad conditions. Sometimes I am surprised, sometimes I am scared :D Greatings from Hungary

The UAZ 469, was based on the GAZ 69, which was based on the WWII Willys Jeep. I think from the whine of the straight-cut gears, you had it in 4WD, or 4WD low. The only thing that call kill these is rust(and will very quickly). If they galvanized the frame and made the body out of stainless steel, this would last like 200 years, and be my dream vehicle.

I really think they would sell well in the market they are intended for. And besides I am really starting to dislike all these robo cars. Bring back a car you actually have to drive and a car that you can fix or repair yourself.

Cool video and agree with the others - wrong rims for the vehicle! Would be nice if you can get in USA for less than $10 k, what it costs in Russia 😊

go with the original steel rims. Through some ockers on it and their just about unstoppable and pretty much indestructible. how did he get it into the US though? Also, buy a 25 year old one, and a brand new one in parts, transfer all the new stuff to the old frame, or better yet grease some palms and put the 25 year old VIN on a new truck, damn things sure haven't changed in 25 years.

You should try and find the original military model, 4 speed manual with unsyncronised 1 and 2 gears, need I say more that its easier to put those in low and only use gears 3 and 4 😅

Just remember the first Broncos or CJ's. Where they to barebone? The UAZ Hunter is made for serious offroading, easy to maintain and cheap to repair. All what made Bronco and CJ famous in their times.

At $10000 a unit , I think even the top of the line Trophy model for a couple of 1000's more - say 14,000 $ - It is still a great deal !! I'd be willing to operate a dealership to sell these vehicles.
