Hey, thanks to your short video I repaired my blender which due to age had coupler rubber completely melted or disintegrated. It is important for me to keep repairing my appliances and not buying new one and throwing this away. Repair cost me around $6 and my time. New one around $200 Oh I almost forgot that I modify some tool to block the motor from spinning and I was able to unscrew the old coupler and not worrying for damage thread.

It was a bit hard, I had to pry with the screwdriver a bit forcefully but I was finally able to get it off, just as you demonstrated. Excellent video, thanks so much.

I have a kitchen-aid 4KSB5WH4. The coupler is wearing down, I'm already missing two prongs that have been shaved off. The coupler part is # 9703274 or #9704230. Removing the old coupler: if possible, try to remove it by sliding a thin wrench under the old coupler to hold the axle and removing by twisting clockwise (reversed thread)

Just bumped into this video while searching for other tips on blender, the thread on the shaft is a left hand thread, what this means is that to loosen the drive you have to go in the direction of tightening it, it will be a bit difficult to loosen because as the blender is running the more the drive is tighten.

Hi Steve, I hope you can help. I have 2 Hamilton Beach Personal Blenders. (model 51109CR) After a few months it started leaking at the bottom of the jar., the motor works perfectly. Take note, the coupling is fixed and not removable. Do you have any suggestions to repair it? And if it is repairable, let me know where I can order the coupling. I really don't want to throw them out when the motor works ...it's a shame to fill landfills. I would really appreciate your response. Thank you.

Hi Steve thanks for the video. I didn’t quite understand how lifting up with a screwdriver is going to make the threads unscrew so this video was very confusing to me. I ended up just taking a screwdriver and impacting it with a hammer against the rubber blades. A couple of quick impacts in the clockwise direction loosened mine easily. Takes some really quick impact though. I went ahead and put some anti-seize on the threads as well so next time they’ll come off easier. You’ll damage the rubber blades but it doesn’t matter since you’re replacing it. Just remember it’s clockwise to loosen. No need to get the spanner wrench
@adeyemibabatunde18142 жыл бұрын
You are right Which anti seizing used? How was shaft held down while you are removing the rubbers?
@condor56352 жыл бұрын
@@adeyemibabatunde1814 - any typical anti seize works. Quick impacts work the best. I forget if these are normal threaded or reverse threaded I would assume that it is threaded such that when you have it on it tightens itself

I was wondering how to remove the same piece but for the Osterizer Galaxy or Imperial model blender? I have both - I'm trying to clean the Galaxy completely, as it's a good looking blender & was just given to me. We have a Kenmore blender and sadly Sears no longer exists. Does PartSelect carry the bushing that the motor shaft goes through? It is a bronze bushing that is self lubricated. The blender can not function because of excessive play in that bushing. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I don't own this blender just so we are clear. With that said. Great video but is it possible to lock the motor by using something to stop it from turning and then just twist the coupler off?
@partselect2 жыл бұрын
It would be great if there was that option forsure. You would have to disassemble the motor completely ,removing the armature from the field in order to have something to hold onto. Definitely a possibility if that is the route you needed to go to.

@@partselect I and my brother own the Wilfa BL 1200. My brother told me that his blender was broken so I started to uncrew the screws just to realize that the coupler needed to be removed before the housing could be taken off. I thought that I didn't have anything to loose since it didn't work anymore so I stopped the fan underneeth with a small screwdriver and I used a Knipex Cobra (can't remember the name of the tool) to unscrew the coupler. It worked perfectly and It hardly didn't take any force at all to unscrew the coupler. I later discovered that my brother didn't screw the blender base on correctly and that is why it didn't work. Such a moron. It works now though.

Mine like that broke off the black part brake of leaving the shine piece on the thread .Dont know if am saying that correct but the blade won't turn .
@partselect2 жыл бұрын
Sounds like the metal insert of the coupler has stayed on the shaft instead of coming off with the black part. That metal inset is a soft material and has left hand thread so it threads off in the opposite direction from most threaded items. I would take a thin file or hack saw blade and try and cut a groove on the top of that piece. Go slow so you do not cut into the thread motor shaft. Do not want to damage the treads. Once the groove is cut take a thin blade screw driver and work it into the thin slot you just created and try twisting the screw driver to split that metal sleeve. If that is not something your ok with or not have the tools then best take to your local service center and they can get that off for you. Good Luck!

Why dig it off? The coupling is a left hand thread, I'd never just dig it off, which risks damaging the motor threads, but shock the coupling by use of a screwdriver and light hammer clockwise. Mine popped off in an instant and threads were spotless
@partselect8 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your excellent comment. The method you describe will work most of the time, although you can risk damaging the surface of the blender with the screwdriver if your aim is off. We showed this alternate method in case the rubber is missing from your coupler. The aluminum hub of the coupling is softer than the steel shaft of the drive motor, so damage to the threads is unlikely.
@KevinArmstrong41548 жыл бұрын
I owe you an apology, as an ex - fitter this method seemed harsh, but when the new coupling arrived for mine form the makers, it shows the exact same method as you!. Using the 'inertia' method is standard for an engineer, but I guess yours is better for the average Joe.

rip threads, would not do it on my blender it was much easier to undo 4 screws at the bottom of my blender, hold the motor rotor by hand and unscrew the drive coupling in clockwise direction arguably more labor, but i wouldn't risk messing up the thread

Interestingly you removed the old coupler by turning it counterclockwise and then turned the new coupler in counterclockwise as well. This is wrong, you remove the old one by turning the coupler clockwise and put the new one on by turning it counterclockwise. The screwdriver method didn't work for me so I had to give it a couple good wacks with a punch & hammer before it let loose. I will be applying some anti-seize (as someone else mentioned) so it will come off easier next time.
