It’s so nice to know that we are not alone with these struggles. You went through a lot to get that license. I’m surprised you had to go to Palm Springs. It’s hot and also the winds are a challenge. My instructor like to stay near the coast. Anyway thanks for the great story. Now I have to go back to studying back on your ground school . Animation would be a great addition to your lesson plan.😊

Thank you for sharing your story, I'm sure a lot of us can truly relate to your experience. It took me a while to get my medical certificate due to my existing medical condition and while waiting, I ended up doing circuits after circuits with my instructor, for about a month. After receiving the medical certificate and now able to fly solo, winter condition puts my training to a crawl. I work full time during the week and can only fly in the weekends. I see my bookings get cancelled one week after another. Before I know, I find myself not flying for a month and had to review and repeat previous lessons. Summer come along and where it seems all is going according to plan, my instructor got accepted to the airline. This set me back over a month. Today, I finally have a CFI, and able to continue my training. I just started my solo cross country and will be preparing for the check ride in the next month or so. I too still have to write the Transport Canada Written Exam. I tried to write it a few months ago after coming back from vacation but I was informed that I need to get an endorsement from my CFI. Unfortunately on the mock-up exam, I fell short by 1 question (79%, 80% required to get endorsement) and had to retake it. I have yet to retake the mock-up exam, pass that so I can endorsement and write the actual written exam. I think it is quite an understatement that getting your PPL requires hard work and dedication. I just keep watching motivational videos to keep my spirit up. There is one video that really hits me and will stay with me forever, "Use your force of will to make it happen, as a human being, the only thing we have is our force of will, so use the force of will, and make that happen".... "and never give up, never, ever give up". Blue skies and tailwind, and thanks again for sharing your story!

Thanks for the tips! I really want to get my PPL, it's been a life long dream of mine. But as much as i want to start now it seems like the best option really is to save up as much as possible before starting flight training. Ideally $15k and then try and finish in a month, it seems like the faster you do it the better. Another thing is to get training in a LSA as they are much cheaper to rent and operate. In theory you could get your training done in an LSA for under $10k in most parts of the states.

I really appreciate your honesty about completing Ground School FIRST before taking in flight lessons. For me, I KNOW this is how I need to approach my aviation journey. I have spoken with a local CFI and she kept pressuring me to do both at the same time. I can't afford it at this time, as bad as I want to reach my goal. I can totally see myself not being able to keep up with the inflight lessons & knowledge and having to repeat lessons, AKA more money. I stopped seeing her and found a new instructor, who also said I should be doing both. I do not understand the sense of urgency. thank you, for reassuring my gut and taking this where it makes sense for my lifestyle and financial outlook.

Ya that’s really odd. They are either being pressured by the flight school they work for to encourage this or they don’t understand that most people don’t have the time and money to do both. Highly recommend doing ground first and then finding a part 61 school or instructor as soon as you finish up and pass your written exam

So true!!! I hope every student pilot out there sees your video and takes it to heart. I had a very similar experience. I had everything just about completed except for the check ride, when I got transferred to another state. I went from a small uncontrolled airfield near Boston, to Baltimore Washington International. From a high wing to a low wing, new instructor, new territory and landmarks to learn. I got my PPL but it costed more then it need to.

Sounds like you got put through the wringer by a Part 141 operation that's basically running a CFI to commercial factory. I didn't realize how much I was taking my retired Part 61 CFI from my small local airport for granted. There's very little "ground school" outside of the required paperwork - I just got a copy of the books and study at my own pace, set a date with him to come in for a pretest, and walked out with my endorsement to go take the written. As far as the flight training, we work at my own pace as my job allows, and he encourages me to go in between lessons and sit in the airplane, on the ground with the master off so I don't get charged, and mock practice maneuvers so that I'm familiar with the plane and performing them, and my flight time in the air can have maximum impact. We've slowed down lessons due to some long and annoying paperwork issues with my medical, but once the FAA finally clears me we will up the cadence and I will be doing cross country in no time. I think 141 ops are a great place to start if you're a student looking to make a career out of aviation, but they're poorly tailored to people with jobs and lives looking to pick up their PPL. I'd really recommend looking into local 61 ops for that kind of training; it's a lot more fluid and free-form with much more discretion given as far as lesson plans and instruction. Sorry you had such a terrible experience with what sounds like a CFI mill, and I hope your advice to vet your flight school helps others that are looking to get started.

I hope that people will listen to you. My apologies that your training took so long and that it costs alot of money. My flight school, which is part 141. Being even worse than getting my training done fast. I had to do so many refresher flights and orals and it made me waste all of my money. My checkride was scheduled for a month and a half out of that day. So ridiculous that they would do this. They would also say that the examiners are backed up and fully booked. Making me wait as long as 2 months. Makes me want to quit for sure because im paying so much money and not getting anywhere. Also they dont schedule me consistently for prepping me for the checkride. Keep up the good work because people need to listen to this. Flight schools are there to take money instead of actually caring for the students needs

I am 6’3 230 pounds and I’m not scared but I am also not confrontational and I felt every word you said. because after I got my license I took a year off because my Flight School just about ruined flying for me. I had a rude young Cfi and I wanted to whoop his A$$ a couple times, but I swallowed my pride so I would not have to start over like many of the stories I’ve heard, including yours. There should almost be some type of big brother program to protect student pilots from getting ripped off and keeping them from finishing their dream.

Will your bundle deal help my 15 year old daughter prepare for her written and prepare her for her checkride? Thanks!
@PartTimePilot
@PartTimePilot 2 жыл бұрын
Yes 100% that is exactly what it is meant for. The checkride prep course reviews everything in the ground school but is formatted in the expected flow of her actual checkride. It talks about what to expect on the checkride, how to prepare for it and prepare her cross country plan, how to show gather the documents you’ll need to show for the aircraft and yourself and then throughout the course it brings up situational based questions that an examiner will actually ask and provides the answer the examiner is looking for. It also goes into detail on the maneuvers she will need to know and be working on with her flight instructor. Let me know if you have any more questions.
