My 450 is getting bound up the back wheels lock up I can take the starter out of it and put it back in it will start up get on it u can ride it about 50 feet and it locks up again it like the flywheel and the starter is getting in a bind

I doubt I will get a reply but it’s worth a shot.... so I bought a 1987 Honda trx250 fourtrax, I’ve been navigating around it for about three days. I’ve got spark from the kick start with leads me to believe that my ignition it good ( also the fact that I put a brand new one in) I’ve went through all the fuses, and checked/cleaned the ground and + cable connections. I’m using a fully charged jumper pack as my power source at the moment simply because I’m trying to make sure I’m not wasting a trip to the store, after figuring out my electrical system is messed up. I’m simply getting nothing no( lights, sounds, etc). I like to figure these things out myself but I’ve came to the fact that I need outside help on this one.😔

I have a 04 660r that only gets a single spark the moment I let off the start button. If I unplug the rectifier I get a great spark. Do you think it’s my stator? Any tips to figure this out?

My lights come on but no crank and relay is new but only has power to one side ? When I try to jump it with a screw driver the wires get red but the starter does try and turn over but I don't do it that long

Hi. I have a yfz 450 2007. My bike swings but does not start. After many attempts it eventually starts pushing oil mixed with fuel through thr breather pipe. If my fuel is set to ON or Reserve I have the same issue. I've reduced the oil level thinking its too much oil building too much pressure and still no help. Next Im about to change the spark plug on the bike. Hoping to get better results. Please let me know if you have any other thoughts

Have a 22 Yfz450r with exhaust vortex no lid on air box quad ran fine loading onto the trailer got to the trail and wouldn’t start without giving it gas and as soon as you let off it dies. Checked tps it’s in the correct range any ideas on why it won’t idle?

Hello. First I want to say that your videos have been extremely helpful as I am new to this hobby and needed a lot of help to do even simple maintenance. I need some help. I have a 2007 YFZ 450 that will not crank. I turn on the power and kill switch and am in Neutral and the green light is lit and the orange light comes on when I push the start button. Battery is good and both solenoids are new and good. I do not hear the solenoid fire when I hit the start button. I am guessing that somewhere in the wire harness there is an issue but I do not know where to go from here. I made sure my grounds are good as well. I checked all the connectors I could find and re-seated them (under all the plastics that I could find). I am at a loss. Any advice?

It's a guessing game at this point. You are obviously losing power before it gets to the solenoids. Could be a bad handlebar switch or a loose or damaged wire. Test you are getting power from the switch.

Thanks for the reply. The Orange light turns on when I push the start button so I assume I am getting power to the switch and back. Also, if I jump wires at the solenoids in the start circuit I can cheat the system to operate like normal. I am not sure what I am bypassing by doing that though. I need to look at the diagram and see, however, I cannot find a diagram specifically for a 2007 non R 450. They are either older, newer or the FI machines. So I have been guessing at what circuits I am working with based on what is there like the diagram (position, color, other components...).

If the solenoid is good, yet doesn't send power to the starter, you are losing power somewhere from battery/switch to solenoid. Test the solenoid to see if power is hitting the solenoid when you hit the switch. Something is stopping voltage to the solenoid.

You shoulda went to the next common starting problem, which is the one I'm having. I've got electical power everywhere but my fuel pump is not primping.

Hey partzilla I was wondering if you guys can try and help me figure this out my 2005 yfz 450 won’t have any spark I switched out my spark plug and it still won’t start I put a little bit of starter fluid and it turns on for a second before bogging out . Question: I have a Yamaha 450r, I was out racing about a week ago and the motor died on me. The engine would turn over but the not start. After the initial panic of try to get going, I realized that the fuel pump was not turning on. I later, after the race, took out the fuel pump and all the wiring was still connected. I put the fuel pump back in and still nothing. All the electrical works the fuel pump is not kicking on. What might be the issue?

John, I need your help. Military deployments haven’t allowed me to service my ride (07 YFZ 450 BBE) properly. He goes: I rode a few weeks ago and got on it hard for about 100 yards and the quad just quit. I was able to restart but only ride for 10 to 15 feet and it quit again. After several restarts and riding a couple feet It shut down, I was able to get the quad back home. I’ve messed with it and took the coil and looked at the spark plug and I’m getting no spark. I bought a new coil and a new spark plug and I still get no spark. I’ve taken the side plate off and tested the stater and it comes out to around 286 ohmes. Is it the CDI? hi i have a 2009 yfz 450 thats having some starting issues, when i tried to start it it would make a click sound, i replaced the silinoid and the battery and it still made the click sound, i recently replaced the starter and now u can hear the starter spin without the click noise but dosent start. The atv was running perfectly fine before it started to make the click sound. could it be that i didnt put the throttle cable back on right when i replaced the starter? or something easy like that, also i didnt use a OEM starter when i replaced it, it was a cheaper one off ebay. Pull the spark plug and crank it over with the plug touching the case? Is it sparking? If it's sparking put a shot of starting fluid in the spark plug hole. If it fires off you have an issue on the fuel side.
