The cases are machined together. You CANNOT use a used one unless you buy a matched set. Clean it very very well, give it a few good tacks and use jb weld or your metal repair of your liking.
@2vintage3 жыл бұрын
@@benjamindavidson632 yeah I was worried about that. I think the best option is to just find a good welder and weld it up.
@unchained200000003 жыл бұрын
@@2vintage Yep. Sometimes being a perfectionist cost too damned much, just to look cosmetically attuned. When getting a welder that knows how to weld aluminum is all it needs to work like new.
@K_Bendel3 жыл бұрын
Been in this same predicament myself, where I replaced the case with another used case and it would leak oil and cause all sorts of issues for me. You’re better off using jb weld and just applying it properly.

Indeed. Stay far away from any engine fixed with any kind of structural adhesive. It never lasts as evidenced by Joe's trouble with it. Do it right the 1st time.

Thats the sort of kick in the balls i get when i buy a bike. i like the idea of doing things properly, it makes it so much easier to sell, but it does look like a horrible job to do and for the 20 extra minutes it will take i would be replacing the crank bearings for peace of mind. maybe a parts washer would be a good investment and a work bench you cant keep floundering around on the floor

I would have fixed with alloy based epoxy resin then sanded it smooth, that stuff is unreal and done properly is barely noticeable unless on very close inspection. I’ve used it on a 350 engine and it’s still as good after 12 years, no leaks no nothing 👍

I hope you know about the oil mod in the o5 and o6 yfz450. Also there is a stock cam mod to adjust the exhaust cam1 tooth clockwise on the timing chain its good for a instant 2 HP. Also to help your clutch last longer for higher HP motors install 3 stiffer springs in the clutch or just do all 6 it also prevents slipping. The indents on the clutch basket, file those down so the surface is smooth instead of a ridges = smoother clutch operation.

If you jb weld it cut your self out a small piece of wax paper and cut it to fit perfectly over the shiny part that you don't want the JB weld To stick to or go down in that hole...you can hold it in place with a small dab of grease...
@colinculverwell3253 жыл бұрын
There is a reason Yamaha don't sell just half a case. They are machined at the factory as a pair both at the joint face and line bored for the shafts. You could get away with it or just be making a whole new problem. Just get someone to weld it. Got to be someone in your area that does that sort of work. Dont have to do everything yourself, no shame in outsourcing specialist stuff.
