Passed the SSCP Exam from ISC2 - My Thoughts & Training Materials

I actually started studying for this exam towards the beginning of 2020, took a few breaks, but finally knocked it out. Glad to have finished it, just sharing a bit of my experience.

Appreciate the info! How much does the isc2 training courses run? I just took the cysa+ beta so I will not know if I passed until may when they release it which is a bummer but I learned so much just from studying for it I know will pass it the next time if I do happen to fail this first attempt. I'm thinking maybe the CCSP for the next certification not quite sure as yet.

Hey JKS- I am taking the exam in 2 weeks, been studyign this exam on and off for around 8 months since last taking it(procrastinated a lot but did do study quite a bit). I did take it before and failed before the 8 motnhs. I work as a techician in a software company and do some IT work. I heard you say you had previous experience wit IT and security. Do you think not havign the experience in eal world security job will hinder or do you think I can still pass it without any expereicne in these type of roles? I found the exam quite tough becaue questions were so similar in their right answer. And I felt not having been in a real life workign experience of it may have stopped me understanding the 100% correct answer.

No worries! You'll get it! I think having real world experience with at least some of the content is helpful, even if it isn't specifically security focused. While I have not worked in a dedicated security role, a lot of what is covered on the exam are things I have done throughout my career. The more you can relate things to what you have done it will help the questions make more sense. But, if you can't do that, studying various practice exams to get an idea of the type of questions will help also. Most importantly learn the material as thorough as you can. If you can go through the exam outline and understand each point, and be able to explain it, you should be good. You have an advantage as you know a bit about what to expect now, so that can help you in your studies. Good luck!

Thanks for sharing. How much time did you took for the preparation ? The book you shown (All in one) would be enough for preparation or should I go through SSCP CBK 5th edition and SSCP official guide second edition as well ?

Took a quick practice Kaplan qbank test to gauge where I'm at and I ended up getting a high 60% Gonna hunker down for a month and then shoot my shot 💪🏿

When I took mine this Jan 2023 was 150 questions over 4 hours. It was crazy!! I passed on the 1st attempt but I had many years of IT experience

I'd say it was just a bit different in how you have to think about things, CyberOps was a little more "technical" in terms of tools and such, this was a lot more broad in scope, and focused on things from a higher level in my opinion. More towards management but still technical.

Hi! I have security+ and wanting to get CISSP in the future. I want to know if you think SSCP would be a great certification to have before CISSP? I asked because I want to know if SSCP will help me prepare for the CISSP certification without having to learn an entire new thing. What are your thoughts? Thank you

I haven't taken the CISSP, I'm sure there is some knowledge in the SSCP that can translate, but I would say look at the domains covered on both to see if it makes sense for you.

All the questions in the SSCP exam are from the domain and topics given in the SSCP exam outline? Or they also asked from differnet concepts also?

They pull from all of the domains in the exam outline, definitely make sure you are comfortable with all of the topics listed.

I’d say whichever one covers the information you wish to learn or validate your knowledge in. There is some overlap between the two for sure.

@@vanhooser1210 I think that depends on your background and knowledge. When I first took Security+ back in the day I was new to IT, I failed it the first time and passed the second time. When I took SSCP, I've had years of experience, so a lot of the knowledge and understanding was there. I was able to better understand questions and not just memorize answers. So I'd say it depends on you really. I would say the Security+ (I haven't taken the newer exams) is probably a little more technical where the SSCP gets technical but also theoretical on the management side of things. SSCP is also about to update to a new exam/scope so I can't speak on what will change there either.
