Awesome that you and your son can do this together - he's doing good work! Even if he ultimately decides to do something else entirely with his life, you and he will have these experiences and he will have this skillset to rely on. Good job Dad.

All the very best in 2022 Isaac! Great to see you “Passing the Torch”! Your son is getting an invaluable education from one of the best out there! I’m a trades instructor here in BC, Canada - I teach electricians - YOUR PATIENCE IS OUTSTANDING! Nothing like learning from a master in their trade. The tools you give him will last him his lifetime - teaching someone to work with their hands and to appreciate “a job well done” is a life skill that translates to whatever career path they choose.

As for me. My father's shoes were his. I followed in my own path. Took a different route. But the teachings that my daddy and my grandfather are always with me. I took the path of the IBEW and worked in electrical industries. I became a Control room operator for over 25 years and retired. I told him what I did but he did not understand it. But he was proud of me. I was very involved in the IBEW. That is my history and I don't expect anyone of my family to fill my shoes. My daughter's are working on their masters degrees in Education and accounting. So I'm a very proud dad. ❤

I often wondered why my welder/boilermaker Dad you come home all sore from work - watching your videos, especially the ones out in the field with your truck, showed me why. He ended up with many back and neck issues. I regret not learning to weld from him - he was somewhat old-school, knew all the old techniques. He was the guy they always had apprentices work with. He was a good teacher, but didn't put up with any bullshit. He told them, "do good work, don't waste time, think about it and do it once." So yeah, thank you.

Such a patient teacher with your boy, he will learn a valuable skill set, even if ultimately he goes on to other pursuits, the skill and work ethic he’s gained from you will follow him. I followed in my fathers trade and was lucky enough to apprentice directly under him for the last year before he passed. That experience, knowledge and time is invaluable to me even 20 years later and is still the highlight of my career. It was during that time, I grew up in my fathers eyes and we went from a parent/child relationship to an adult friend/professional one. my goal was always to be almost as good as my father at our trade, my proudest moment was him telling my mom how much our brother tradesman looked up to me at such a young age because of my skills. Skills I learned from him! Kudos to you and your boy. Cheers

When I struggle with oxy-fuel cutting I often am tempted to think it's something with my equipment but then you see another learner having the same struggles and the teacher takes the equipment into their hands, doesn't change a thing and makes a perfect cut. A good reminder that the only thing separating folks who are learning and the masters is time, thought and practice. Keep moving young brother and I will too!
