I love the Southern accent the woman from Virginia has as it’s very enduring. Accents are nice & it’s wonderful to hear people all speak in different tones

Steve Lawrence was discovered by Steve Allen and he began his national career as a regular (along with his future wife, Eydie Gorme) on Allen's original NBC Tonight Show. Lawrence's wit is superb and is very consistent with the Allen school of humor.

4:10 Steve wasn't sure if his airline stewardess partner from San Antonio would be able to guess the word "dizzy" from a clue of "Gillespie." He initially assumed the clue would be too esoteric for her tastes. You could tell the audience wanted him to say "Gillespie" and they mildly groaned when he didn't. Glad to see on the second go 'round he tried it, and she immediately got it and seemed to indicate she would have gotten it the first time if he had said it. Lesson learned.

The celebrities here named "Lawrence" (of course stage names for both) are both still alive. This is one of the few examples of that, since most of the time, both (or at least one of them) have usually passed away.

Love how they made fun of the southern girl, but she ended up being better at the game then the "city girl". Lol! I am from Tennessee, so it made me happy. :)
@waldolydecker81183 жыл бұрын
Nonsense. They were rightfully laughing at her thick accent that made it difficult to understand some of her words - not how she played the game. The "city girl" demonstrated over multiple episodes that she was a superb player of the game, so the claim that the southern girl "ended up being better at the game" is a sophomoric stretch at best. They didn't even have sufficient time to finish the round. For all you know the contestant who was leading could have lost when they resumed on the next show.

@@waldolydecker8118 So, it's OK to laugh at someone's accent? Would you laugh at an Italian accent?
@waldolydecker8118 Жыл бұрын
@@TheSaltydog07 - you are mixing apples and oranges - an Italian accent implies that the individual is a foreigner or relatively new to America; someone who is a southerner has been in America all their life and is just from another region. On Sesame Street they would tell you those two things are NOT the same, so don't try to equate them.
