Do you think bagged blue candy wafer melts will give the same effect as the ganache??

Yes, I would still mix in a little hot/warm cream so it doesn't set too hard.

So you crumb coat with the crusting buttercream? And then you add the regular merengue buttercream on top?? Or no?

I filled this cake with cream cheese icing, but crumb coat and final coat were American Style Buttercream. No, SMBC on this cake... however you can use SMBC if you wish... I just used what I had on hand.
