Fun fact: At a certain part in the song you can hear what sounds like NF crying, there was a point where he told the rest of the crew to leave the studio so he could do a 3rd Verse alone. This song was supposed to have 3 verses, but NF broke down before he managed too fully finish the verse.

This song always make me emotional. My mom attempted to take her life with pills when I was a child, I am thankful everyday that my dad found her in time. Can't wait for "Oh Lord"!

This song really helps you understand what he’s been through. Contrasting this with Hope, watching him grow and mature into now a parent himself, and to hear him say he forgives her….I love it and I’m here for it. Love the reaction guys. ❤

It's so tough to listen to, but it makes Nate so much more human to his fan base. Even though this is probably my least favorite song of his because it hurts my heart so bad, it's also one of the songs that made me appreciate the artistry of his words so much more because, as Bret said, it's "raw". It's not a feel-good song, but it's SO relatable to so many people. And even if you can't relate in a literal sense, your heart can maybe relate to the amount of hurt that he's gone through.

6:47 the other cool thing about the mama I forgive you line, is that a few years ago he talked about how he wished he was older when he made How Could You leave us. And talk about it from a POV of a adult with a kid now and everything. On his new hope album that drops April 7th. He has a song called MAMA. (And he said "MAMA I forgive you". I think its How Could You Leave Us part 2. 👀

When he says I " know that you're gone, but I can still feel you" he can still feel the pain that she caused him. And in another song, which you will get to, he says "I don't do drugs, but I'm addicted to the pain though" he is addicted to the pain, that reminds him of her, because he still loved her even after all that, even when he said a line earlier in this song, "I hate the way I remember you", it's like he still hasn't let go, up to now of course with the song Hope.

I grew up with addicts as parents. I held so much resentment towards them. It made me hard. My dad when I was 18. He had hit me in the face the same night he passed away. It was years before I could let go of the resent I had for him. My mom continued on being an addict and didn’t get clean until the day she had double mastectomy. God gave me the ability to take her back and forth to chemo and radiation. And in that time i learned forgiveness for her. It hurt so much when she left. But this song reseñares with me just as much as his new song Mama. I hope my mom is there waiting for me on the day I get called home.

Me and my son's lost my husband to addiction 2 years ago now. Wow, listening to this really made me realize just how much I haven't even began to deal with this. God bless the families of people affected by addiction, and God bless every child who doesn't have a parent because they were stolen from them. God is good , this is just a fallen world. One day all this sin will be gone, thank you Lord ❤

This song speaks to me on so many levels. Addiction has been so prevalent in my family, thankfully my dad has been sober for almost 2 decades and found God. But I lost my sister to addiction and she left behind 2 children. More so, this could have been my sons life. I almost lost myself to addiction but thankfully got sober for my child. His biological father is still battling his addiction. I'm just so grateful 🙏 to God that I made the change before it negatively impacted my son. I'm so grateful to God that I found my husband who is an amazing father to my son (our son) and our daughter. I'm so grateful to God that he has given me grace and I've been able to raise our children in home filled with love and The Lord. I wish everyone was so lucky.

I think this is one of his best songs but it is so hard to listen to. It's really scary and emotional to listen to and it left me speechless when I first heard it. Also I would love it if you go back and revisited Hope after the journey so that way it makes more sense. Great reaction!

Love your reactions and commentary on this song. I dont mean this this in ANY negative way whatsoever but i have seen reactions of other pastors or religious people and they try to relate EVERYTHING to a positive side of religion. But i love that your reaction is just reacting to a person who is incredibly hurt and sympathising with it but also reffering to you faith without it being completely invasive of the meaning of the song!

I lived this. Not the death of my mother. But I lived watching her addiction to pills grow. The more she did the more abusive she became. CPS failed to save us from it. I didnt get out until I was 17. Unforunately my little sister has followed her path of addiction and has been for 10+ years now. Everytime I see this video I cry my eyes out because the pain is real for me. It begs the whole question of "Why was I not good enough for you?"

This is something that hits hard for me. People think that kids are little they wont remember when moms an dads fight or drink or do drugs.but in the end we carry that way over into adult hood an even when we have children of our own... the hurt never goes away... we either learn from it an make sure not to be like that or live it. I chosen to be better than my own parents even when my dad was dying he apologized but it still didnt make up.for those times i needed him an my mom also has but now she is the person i wish i had as a kid growing up.. she is the best grandmother to my kids ❤️ just wish i could of had that as a kid. I know times as adults with kids are hard on some days but just remember those days leave lasting impressions . That never go away... even if you forgive them its always there...

My dad did drugs to the point where his kidneys failed, and he had to take dialysis, it was once a week, then slowly went to every day of the week. I was taken away from my biological family at the age of four, along with my two older brothers who were 5 and 7, and my younger sisters, who were, 3, 2, and 1. My brothers tried to help us, but couldn't protect us, and went to protect themselves. I took care of my sisters, and was taken away to live with my uncle and aunt, with their children. (From the start my dad was abusive in A LOT of ways.) My uncle turned out to be the same. My two younger sisters who were 2 and 1, were taken away with my brothers, and were sent away to another family. Me and my sister, who was 3. Was in and out of emergency homes, sent to different houses. We never were in a stable place. Then, we were sent to my current home who eventually adopted us all, along with my new sister, who is now 9... My dad died when I was thirteen, three years ago. Due to kidney failure, and drugs. Eight months later, my uncle died, because he couldn't bear the thought of his brother being dead. He died from an overdose. Leaving his two children, the oldest 8, and the other 5. I relate with NF, I love his music, I know what it's like to lose someone close, even though they hurt you, you still love them. This song IS emotional, I loved it. And I cried, and memorized every line.
