We won't be watching TV shows in heaven; discipleship is the end game. :)

You’ve done a fantastic job. I love Mark but think he got too easily triggered by supposedly woke parts. It’s clear that just by virtue (see what I did there) of being there, Jesus was being gracious towards her. The repentance comes later. Showcasing Jesus encountering people first with His love and then the Holy Spirit convicting them afterwards is supported by the millions of faithful Christians whose testimonies reflect this. Loved the scene, and the show.

@DallasJenkinsOfficial I love Pastor Mark but I personally disagree. There is no virtue signaling. The left might interpret it that way because they always look for loopholes but I love how you portrayed this scene. It’s the goodness of God that leads people to repentance. When I came to Christ, it was his love for me yet while I was a sinner that caused me to repent. Jesus said he didn’t come for the healthy but the sick. Those who knew they needed a Saviour. Those who knew their sin was great but he was greater. This scene depicts Jesus walking her through that process of her sin problem and him being greater than her past. Does the Bible say in that scripture that Jesus told her to repent? I don’t think it does, it says he revealed who he was to her and she believed so the fact that the Chosen didn’t add “ repent and believe when the Bible didn’t add it doesn’t make it virtue signaling in my opinion

I absolutely loved this scene! I have lived in 5 states around the country, attending many churches and worship services. Every time I have heard this story taught from the pulpit, it has included a reference to the woman being a serially-unfaithful sinful wife, that her many husbands divorced her because of this. It was only recently when studying that story in scripture that I realized we do not actually know that about her life! A beautiful part of the story as it was told in The Chosen is that chronically abused women can feel too unworthy of the Messiah’s love and attention. This story as presented in the Chosen can give them hope. Yes, we are all sinners. And some of us may believe that we are good enough on our own to not need the gift of salvation Jesus offers. But there are others of us who believe we are so sinful and worthless that the gift of salvation Yeshua Jesus extends to every one of us isn’t really meant for us. It can be hard to believe He means such a beautiful gift for us just as much as He means it for everyone else!

I love your comment. Often we find that men from the pulpit spin women in a negative light. That is a great issue and has negatively impacted women in churches for years. Because remember…it’s always the woman’s fault for her plight.

Automatically applying that they did this on purpose to promote it is I think wrong when you're judging their motives and not the possibility that the secular person working on set did it themselves. Be careful when you judge motives because you don't know their intension. I love the Chosen I don’t care who criticizes it! It’s brought a lot of people back to the Scriptures

I love you Mark, but I think you're putting many of your opinions on what Dallas and crew were thinking. I absolutely agree that we should go back and read the Bible as we watch the series. The fact that this show has brought many to Jesus and those of us who already follow Him are led to dig deeper into the Word is what I see as the only important thing to point out about The Chosen. My family loves to watch it and then have an inductive Bible study on each of the stories. I've also looked deeper into the written history of the time as well. The Romans were really good about written history as were the Jews. I think they're doing an amazing job with this show.

Also I think it was not only Jesus' words that drew people to Jesus. It was Holy Spirit that people were drawn to him. Like when you walk into a prayer room and the Holy Spirit almost knocks you over.

I love the chosen and I know that there are some parts where there is some creative license thrown in, but that's just to add detail. I would say the chosen is a great way to see what Jesus and his disciples were doing at the time, but I would highly suggest that people read the Bible, while watching the chosen is good, but you can't center yourself around that, because there is so much more in the bible that needs to be heard like the book of acts and on, or the old testament in its entirety.

I just like the visualization of the stories, much like I enjoyed the Hannah Barbara shows as a kid. I read my Bible amongst many Christian authors and I know there many parts they are extrapolating but it overall tells the story in a good way and hopefully lots of people will come to Christ because of it and want to seek a much deeper relationship with The Father.

I'm glad to see people coming to faith through this. I pray for an honest faith. Though I have a question for pastor Mark. Does "The Chosen" come into conflict with the second commandment? What are your thoughts on this?
@damienperry57582 ай бұрын
Your assessment of “breaking barriers” is more than a little biased. If you’ll notice, they’re discussing worship in Jerusalem. What he actually did when he went to the cross was tear the veil between the Holy of Holies, therefore ending the need for the Levirate priesthood. He became prophet, priest, and king so that traveling to Jerusalem annually was no longer a necessary act of worship. Did he use similar language to woke culture? Yes. But more importantly, he used modern language that is familiar to a younger audience. Woke culture has commandeered many terms and phrases, but “breaking barriers” holds no LGBTQ-specific definition

Love your take of this Pastor Mark, I lead a Bible study here in Central Florida called "The Chosen: Biblical vs. Entertainment". I will now add woke to my entertainment side of it 😀 I am huge fan of the show too as well as a huge fan of Trinity Church but I absolutely see why you gave this take. Also, a question for you though, did you just see this scene or did you get to watch the full episode or even the first season all together. I would for you to do more of these because my last group I lead was your Black and White in a Rainbow World right before this. Big change but I do love the personification of Jesus done with the show and if this makes one person grab the Bible more and changes their life, that is worth it for me. Dallas and his team know exactly what they are doing here with the "Plausible" side but I do feel they should put that disclaimer they had on the first episode and the pilot back on in front of every episode. Keep up the amazing work with your team and you. The reaction videos are the best. I was actually planning on coming to go to Trinity Church this coming week with my best brother in Christ but we couldn't make it work.

The beauty of such a project is that it can be used as a tool and discuss topics and relate them to what is happening in today’s church as so many different approaches are being adopted. Example “Hijaking the gospel for social justice”, or “soft woke evangelical center”. This production is actually pulling out those perspectives and gives pastors a chance to say “this is a good production but not really the Jesus of the scriptures, so let’s talk about the Scripture Jesus”.

You got to watch the 1st episode, in order to watch this as tv, that is clean and safe and leads you to want to read your Bible. Just don't jump in as a believer at any point in the show, because you will knit pick all the way through the episode and still read your word but looking only for error, and not with renewed wonder and interest in the Word of God😊

I think the important thing to remember is that The Chosen is a TV drama first and a biblical commentary second.

My grown children are watching this and coming to faith. Many who wouldn’t watch a documentary about Jesus, watch this show. It’s on local television. If you ask the Holy Spirit to guide you to the facts, you will find them.

If you watch this scene in context with the rest of the show, you see that they don’t teach that Jesus was here to “save everyone”. It does show that people need to believe in and follow Jesus to be saved. Ultimately, yes, everyone needs to read the Bible in itself.

I watched the first 2 seasons. I started becoming weary of it at the next season. I stopped watching it. Haven’t looked back. It was the right decision for me and I agree with this commentary. Definitely have to read the scriptures when watching this series.

As a pastor, I think you missed one little contextual piece that is from John and a seemingly small clue he John leaves for us. Remembering that John is written as a theological book on why we need to believe and profess Jesus Christ as savior. First, John 4 answers the question that is posited by Nicodemus about being born again. Chapter 3 of John deals with this question from a Pharisees perspective... how can one be born again. When you read 3:1-21 in total and not just 3:16, Jesus is clear in 17-18 that he did not come just for the Jews, not to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned... Then John the baptist begins testifying about who Jesus is and speaks about a bride and bridegroom. Ending his argument that whoever believes in the Son has eternal life... 3:36. Chapter 4 continues chapter 3 as the beginning of 4 has Jesus having to leave Judea because rumor is the Pharisees are worried that Jesus is now Baptizing more than John. He decides to go through Samaria and meets this sinful woman who has broken the laws about brides and bridegrooms by being adulterous with the 7th man she's living with. While she has to come everyday to get water, Jesus offers her a living water so that she will never have to come back... reminding us that John's baptism of repentance was a continual baptism with water... we know the Essenes took multiple baths of repentance a day to overcome their sin. But Jesus is offering her a living water that only he can offer, and it's a living water that never requires in to come again. In John, she confesses that she is a sinner in 4:17... in 4:25 she recognizes that the Messiah is coming, and Jesus replies, I am he... Vs 28 is the key verse in this whole conversation... It states... Leaving her Jar Behind... John is clear and wants us to know that she had left her old life behind as she runs to tell everyone... She's the answer to the question posed back by Nicodemus... about how someone is born again... she puts down her old life, runs to town as a new person whose recognized who Jesus was... the Messaiah... That's clear by the last line in the narrative, when the people that she witnessed to tell her... we no longer believe in him because of what you said; now we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this man really is the savior of the world. Their statement confirms that she had told then that Jesus was the savior of the world. Sorry, I don't have time to expand the argument, but look at John 3-4 and see the fullness of John's argument.

I would say the biggest danger is to the children, ad an adult I love most of the choosen but I remember an old animation of 3 ppl that find a door of time, they hear Adam's story and it starts off by saying God mad man because he was lonely and for years I believed that was scripture untill I was about 21, we must keep this in mind as we raise our children do not let movies raise them

This show disclaims that it is not a substitute for the Bible. Although I do not agree with all of the writing I really appreciate the show. I have seen this show be a catalyst for turning towards Jesus and engaging in regular spiritual disciplines in people who were struggling in their relationship with GOD verses the world. With all the junk on tv it is a blessing to watch. It is no substitute for regular Bible study. I just pray that it has the same impact on other viewers as it has on the people who I know: it started them watching Trinity Church sermons, reading the Bible and attending church.

Sir, the interjection of the commentary is mainly due to the fact that most people don't understand how revolutionary that was in the 2nd temple period. Most "Christians" don't get how significant this entire event was, so they just gloss over it in the Bible.

I saw The Visual Bibles “Gospel of Matthew” back in the 90s. It didn’t take creative liberty with dialogue, quoting directly from the NIV, setting a standard for Jesus movies. the Chosen is good to draw interest, but I hope people are led to read the Word more.

Sir, while I agree with the premise of what you say there is some artistic license that must be tolerated in a story that is 2000 years old. While He may not have come to Samaria just to see her, I think (as far as the movie is concerned) He may have been trying to get through the social norms of the time and show her that the Messiah wasn't only for the jews. Just my uneducated take on the movies and that scene in particular. May I also suggest that it is just one scene. I would love to get the cliff notes version of your feelings on the whole set of films.

Repentance is required of God to be accepted into his family and yet while we were still sinners at our very worst, Christ died for us and his patience with us is meant to draw us to repentance. He is patient and loving and accepting but not affirming sin. When Jesus touches us, it’s impossible not to turn away from sin or leave unchanged. I’m incredibly impressed for the most part with The Chosen overall. My one criticism is the continued usage of Jesus telling a falsehood as a joke (it’s still a lie) and Jesus was perfect and sinless and never lied or deceived even as a joke. There are other ways Jesus could be depicted as playful and humorous without telling falsehoods. Overall, terrific show that I feel captures the essence and spirit of the Bible very well.

I love your videos. I love this show too. To me, even if the show isn't totally 100% truth according to the Bible, I can relate to the characters and it pulls me in, I get so emotional in their storyline. I watch to also learn more about Jesus and the stories in the Bible ❤

I mean just because she is/was or could be a victim doesn’t mean she’s not living in sin. They just putting dialogue to it. I love the chosen, no it’s not the Bible but it’s brought so many people to the Gospel, and delivered so many ppl. Listen to the testimonies of the actors on the show. It’s amazing but sure it’s not the Bible but definitely makes the stories come to life I like how they direct the episodes

anyone else notice how he takes issue with them adding the line about breaking boundaries/barriers and then proceeds to explain that Jesus was there breaking boundaries and barriers. I feel like thats another case of attaching our own perspective to something that might not be there. Every demographic and political group has used breaking barriers, not just the left. Although i totally agree with the danger of turning sinners into victims

I am glad that Mark points out some ‘minor’ issues but generally is positive. Some of the scenes do provoke quite an emotional response, and I think this is a good thing in moderation. There would have been human reactions to the healings and dealings of Jesus with others; The Bible doesn’t always present these potential reactions and I think for those who heretofore have not been exposed to or influenced by these Bible stories, it is a good thing to see how Jesus might well have interacted with the people of his day.
