My daddy and uncle ran them juke joints and after hour clubs in the 30's and 40's. The stories were rich. Life was hard. Jim Crow, sun down towns. The music belonged to tge people and people belonged to the moment. Strange fruit still hung from the trees and smoke from pistols filled the taverns like cigarette smoke. It wasn't all like you see in the movies.

True on many levels. Snobs themselves are jokes and can be equated to the "cringey" part of a fandom, lol. They should know the basics of how music works--that music is also transformative, and genres change overtime. They should appreciate the fact that it's still being rediscovered from different areas instead of the genre just being discarded, or the genre turning into a mishmash of individual projects to where it's difficult to trace back.

They showed silent films like Charlie Chaplin and such, my dad would play for the movies his banjo or piano some of these songs or Scott Joplin rag style songs, lots of memories.

I listened to this kind of music all my life! My Dad built his hifi receiver from a kit that was shipped to him in the early 1950s. The turntable was sitting on a wood box. He had to make that. Two AR speakers. Stacked in the corner of our huge basement. He insisted on a live ceiling. No paneling. I could blast these LPs. Now I live in the same house. So I created my own sound system. Pioneer 80watts per channel. Bowers& Wilkins speakers. (2). Plus 1 mid range and 2 others. 5 speakers. So I play this LP from KZbin. It makes me feel terrific!

One of the best compilations on jazz and blues I've ever heard - a real dazzling gem! I had it all heard in one shot - and I could replay it easily, on the spot! There is only one issue: songs like these always put me in the mood for some whiskey and smoke...always...
