My Father was a set decorator at universal studios and worked on the Munsters. I got to go see them film a lot of episodes as it was my favorite show. I still run into Butch Patrick and Pat Priest and autograph shows in Los Angeles. When I brought my Munster script’s for them to sign for me. I also showed them the picture that they signed for me in 1965. This was around 2013 or so and they couldn’t believe I still had mimeographed Scripts.

This guy isn’t simply the best at what he does; he’s the only one. This show, Cool Classics, is singular. There’s not another with precisely the same approach. And such respect for these actors; it truly shines through. I reckon that generally speaking this show might be a little long for KZbin. But he could double the length and get away with it. Because the quality is simply superior.

@@frannyleyden7988 Thank you. I thought Spicybean’s comment was rather unnecessary. This guy obviously puts a lot of time and effort (imagine trying to chase down all those clips) and deserves far more than to be referred to as background. That’s downright rude now that I think about it.

You have to wonder two things: 1) What did they sign the Watson girl for, just general roles, or that movie specifically? 2) If season three went on, would Pat still be Marilyn?
@communityorganizer5645
@communityorganizer5645 2 жыл бұрын
@@charles2241 I'm pretty dang sure Pat would not have been back. However they might have signed the other actress even of there were no Minster movie. My Spidey senses tell me that's the case on both of your queries.
@charles2241
@charles2241 2 жыл бұрын
@@communityorganizer5645 The question is, did they get the awful movie results in quick enough to decide to pull the plug? Also recall, as Pat said, she was under contract too, so on the one hand, you would think they would give it to Pat, but on the other, why would you switch back to Pat if the movie were a success, assuming you made the movie because ratings for the show weren't good enough? Do recall there's some precedent with sticking with the tv girl, which may had been a completely different situation, but recall the situation when they made the Batman movie and didn't use the original Catwoman, and when they came back, if I'm not mistaken, they stayed with Julie Newmar. I think Eartha Kitt came along later, or, maybe, she came in right after the movie, I don't know. I was always thinking Newmar couldn't make the movie due to prior commitments, then the movie, then back to her on the tv show again. I checked and indeed that did occur, for Eartha wasn't in them till S3E13. While we know Watson was under contract, therefore used (the excuse) Kitt didn't have any work for four years after Batman. Both Debby and Pat had work immediately following the Munster series, so just for continuity's sake, you might stick with Pat, because apparently, they were pleased with both girls. Another thing about the Munsters movie, do remember, it wasn't just Watson that was the change, but going to color, and you'll notice also that an awful lot of movies in the period went out of their way to use redheads, therefore having more color on the set. You would presume, therefore, if the movie were a success, they would stick with Watson to have that extra color as well. In any event, I would wager to guess that if you made the move in the movie, you wouldn't use Pat again, but I'm not so sure they considered the Marilyn character important enough to think that deeply about it. They were basically putting in a new girl due to her youngness and maybe that extra color, but they were really banking on the switch to color I would bet. With all the problems with Fred Gwynne, you would also have to wonder, that if losing Fred were the end of the show, he might not had been willing to give it another go (though did the movie).
@CoolClassics
@CoolClassics 2 жыл бұрын
I think if the movie did good, they were going to go color for a 3rd season and they would have went with the new girl again. Personally, I would be happy with a 3rd season in black and white and keeping Pat Priest :)

In 2019 Stern Pinball release a Munster's Pinball machine. At the Texas Pinball Festival of that year they had 2 of the hot rods from the show, Eddie and Marilyn. I had a display piece I had made from an earlier Munster's Slot machine belly glass that I brought to the show with me. I asked her to sign it and she graciously agreed. Since there currently wasn't a line for autographs, I sat down and had a most pleasant conversation with Mrs Priest. She was so sweet and gracious and we talked about life and family and other glorious things. I will also treasure that meeting and keep that signed display in my game room in a place of honor. Thanks for putting this video together, I enjoyed learning more of her background and life events.

Personally, I enjoy hearing of the personal foibles they go through...I mean, why did her husband, and father of her kids, eventually file for divorce?...Was he thinking she was fooling around in Hollywood?...Man, she was so gorgeous, although that aspect of her never hit me when she was in the series...Divorce is frowned upon by the Mormons, so I guess she had renounced her situation by then..I was hoping you could say that she and Elvis had "a thing"...but then I remembered, that Elvis himself was very reluctant to get involved with any woman who was a mother!..Elvis, you should have broken your rule, with her!

That must have been a stressful transition...and just how did she acquire the know-how to fix up those homes?...I guess she just hired professional carpenters to follow her wishes....Quite a woman, she used her looks and acting skills when younger, and then used her brains to forge another career...she must have gotten such "moxie" from her amazing mother, who did not base her remarkable success on looks...Pat must have gotten her stunning looks from the Dad.

Pat appeared in the Mission: Impossible episode called "The Field". Season 5, episode 17 in a rather dark and downbeat storyline. You know, when I was little in the 80's and I watched The Munsters I just told myself that taking someone else's appearance must be Marilyn's monster ability. THAT must be why everyone thought she was actually ugly and her appearance regularly changed. 5 year old me might've been onto something, because that explained it away perfectly for me for years. I had no idea about what happened behind the scenes at the time. I was always sad that The Munsters, The Addams Family, and Batman couldn't have a big crossover, like they did on Scooby doo. I was an eccentric kid. Still wish that could've happened. 😂😂😂😂

Ted Cassiddy that played Lurch was on an episode of Batman when he and Robin were climbing the wall they always talk to whoever is inside window, Colonel Klink of Hogan's Heroes show was on another episode also, and many others made guest appearances in other episodes. How they expect to sneak up on villains when they always are seen climbing up wall does not make sense.

Congratulations! I knew you were worried for nothing I knew your channel would take off 🥳you just have to find the right audience. I was really young when the Munsters were on TV but I did notice the change in actresses and honestly I preferred Pat🥰😎💯

You do a great job and totally deservesuper pop success!! When I was a kid we had a Ghost Club in my deserted barn. Any member who didn't watch the Munsters or The Adams Family every week had to pay a 25cent fine for each. Then we bought more goop to make Creepy Crawleys. They tasted toxic but smelled worse while baking in their probably lead moulds.

This is such a cool video! I had no idea Pat from Utah my home and I lived in Bountiful. I still enjoy watching the Munsters even though I’ve seen every episode several times. She was the best Marilyn ever! Thanks
