Horizon kind of got pyred about the UI/handhold discourse when Elden Ring came out. Its kind of hitched to "the problem with western games" wirh design choices and bloat

In all honesty as a person who likes them it's sorta funny because they're like the best version of the "3rd person, open-world action game with RPG elements" genre outside of maybe the new God of War games (which I've heard are also excellent but haven't gotten around to playing yet), which is exactly why people don't talk about them much. They're basically a bunch of elements that aren't particularly ground breaking but are polished to as close to a mirror shine as possible, which leads to them not really having anything really eyecatching in terms of innovation. The story is pretty good but we're in a point in time where a story has to be way beyond that to really catch anyone's attention. It's a franchise that's sorta like Tiger Woods to me, in that it's fantastic at a thing that's just not very spectacular so a lot of people have heard of it but don't have strong opinions on it, except the people who are super into the space it's in who are really into it.

I think more people accept it compared to when other games do it is because, not only is Zelda is in the same tier of attachment as Link (Link and Zelda are constants and the core of Zelda games almost always), but also that Zelda has shown competence in actually fighting against Ganon and his forces as well (I’ve played Twilight Princess; I’m thinking about her on horseback shooting arrows near the ending sections of the game. She probably has used magic before; I just haven’t played those games so I can’t be sure. I have played Smash before so maybe that’s something.)

You know, I really wasn’t expecting that Nintendo direct to reveal Hiro Mashina’s Dragon Quest but I really really wasn’t expecting that game to be Palworld + Pikmin. Especially considering he did the art for a Monster Hunter manga so I would’ve thought if he did art for a game it would be a Monster Hunter game

Know what's really funny? Marvelous did an entire Marvelous Direct about the game...WITHOUT EVER EXPLAINING WHAT IT WAS! I remember watching it and going "Okay the girl with the double braids and double Ds is great. I'll buy the game. But what IS it!" I'm hyped. New monster taming game doing something actually new-ish? Heck yeah! I also love that the website says "Farm and Ranch your Monsters".

I think its a bit weird how they discarded the idea of Zelda wielding a sword like some ridiculous notion. Her main weapon in Hyrule Warriors was a rapier, and it ruled. Not to mention all the sickass fighting styles she gets in Age of Calamity like a motorcycle. The cloning thing is really neat, I just wish she had more direct combat, as she's potentially had before.

It may or may not be representative of main game Zeldas, especially seeing as how different Zeldas are different individuals, but the point being that she's at least had depictions capable of direct combat, including swords, so it was weird for it to have been so dismissed the way it was.

For top down gameplay such as that, giving her a sword would be nothing that makes her standout as her own. It would essentially be a Link clone with a sword. You can't really do much with the top down view gameplay.

Not surprising at this point, we know how it is with Nintendo and Zelda, I'm just glad it looks like a interesting mechanic that also fits her character's theme of Wisdom. I think that the Peach game and now this one is Nintendo's way of finally exploring the potential of their heroines as standalone sellers so if these do well, it might eventually lead to the softening of attitudes over what a Zelda can and can't do over time. This could also be a sign of the changing of the guard in leadership over time. Either way, I think it's ultimately a positive direction that they're heading

Pats right on the switch announcements feelling like "wait for pc" because you can see the frame rate drops in the gameplay of the trailers. Like...metroid 4 is cool but Nintendo had to make a whole new engline for the first metroid -- a gamecube game to run on the switch-- and thats what the 4th game is using. Like you need to make whole switch priority engine for the switch for your multiplat for your game fir it to run well on it an of course no one will do it because people scream "put the game on twitch" didn't say it had to run well on it.
