[Patched] How to get Custom Partner Ribbon Pokemon (via Wild Smeargle Cloning)

Well it was a good run, but sadly this glitch is NO LONGER POSSIBLE as of the February 1st update, version 3.0.1. I would say its been patched, but they actually just decided that Smeargle can no longer use Transform in wild battles, meaning the move will fail whenever it tries to use it, rendering the dupe glitch no longer possible to perform.

This is actually good that Smeargle can’t use transform- I know it’s sad that the glitch is no longer possible- but transform Smeargle is kinda annoying (to me personally)

I used it for smaller mons like furret and pawmot (both shiny) and it worked even that furret was classes as small

Yeah, i've seen a few people getting success with this method using smaller mons - I even managed to do a couple of Eevee today after someone else showed me theirs. I'm guessing the size of the hitbox wasn't as important as people first assumed when discovering this glitch.

Because height and "imprison" aren't a must for this to work. Just any mon, a smeargle, a place close to a tree and, if you want, a status move that does nothing bad to you

I managed to do this with Crispin's Magby and I'm super happy to at least have a Pokémon with the ribbon sharing my OT. sent him to Hisui to get the ribbon there and evolved him to Magmortar. Going to change his ability back to Flame body, so that even if I can't use him competitively due to having the ribbon, he can be my helper for shiny egg hunting. :D

To lead smeargle near a tree, use synchro regigigas since pokemons run away from it.

Yep! Aside from getting more copies of legendaries/applying new balls to a mon you already caught, this is probably the most useful application of this glitch (and of course any starters you pass those balls down to via breeding will be impossible to tell as having glitched origins)

indeed you can! though the paldean starters are in go, so great, ultra, master, and premier balls are also options without cheating

It does work on small pokemon perfectly well. I was wondering what would happen if we duped those ribbon pokemon! I'd love to try, but I'm reluctant to have an obvious illegal pokemon. But it's so neat that it takes the trainer info, no matter what it is! Very cool!

You can also give it a held item, and keep stealing the held item every time you initiate a battle. When you exit the battle, the wild clone will regain its held item again.

Thanks for sharing this Glitch, I did it with Cyrano’s Shiny Britzle after I levelled up said Blitzle to around the level a wild Blitzle in the Savanna Biome would be so then it hopefully passes as a Legal Blitzle, I even tested placing it in HOME and I was able to deposit it and back just fine, so hopefully, I’ll be able to keep this Shiny Blitzle with the Partner Ribbon with my Name attached to it.

good chance theyll be able to filter these pokemon out of home by only allowing pokemon that naturally spawn in the terarium to have.. well, the terarium-locations as the catch locations in its summary this is still nice for item cloning though

The thing is, many of these Pokémon with partner ribbon CAN spawn in the Terrarium, so it's literally impossible to distinguish them from legitimate pokemon without that ribbon, and I don't see them deleting all the pokemon with partner ribbon, as that's also mechanically impossible. The best I think they can do to stop the damage is just patching the glitch after the update, but any Pokémon you duped before that will probably be legal as long as its location of origin matches.

i did with Gimmighoul and it worked too, it's confirmed works with every mon and it doesnt need to be from scarlet and violet, I did with scizor that i got from colesseum with all the ribbons and I still can send it to home

As of right now, home doesnt check ribbons due to a glitch on launch that gave the nat dex magearna all event ribbons (and it was the aged/gray version) Also i wanna do this with penny’s eevee and do a ribbon quest with all the eeveelutions, if its ever possible

If there was a way to get the partner ribbon on other pokemon somehow, I'd love to put it on my favorite pokemon from over the years. They would be glitched, yeah, but if the data is still there in the very distant future, it'd be sweet for a grandkid to see "(grandma's) pokemon" after I've died.

Confused about this one because from what I see other youtubers have explained doing it in a more complicated way but the way you show it seems super easy. I've tried with two big pokemon the way you're doing it but with no luck. Zekrom and bloodmoon ursaluna.

They overcomplicated it. You don't need to stand in a highly specific spot, and you don't need to use imprison and/or struggle. Those things don't affect the success rate of the glitch triggering, and it works in every biome 👍 It will never have a 100% success rate even if you do everything right, though, just because of the way the game handles memory and recycled spawns. If it won't trigger at all, after numerous attempts, it might be good to save and close/restart the software, or try a different location. I think clearing out the cached or RAM memory helps, since I can't imagine the game will even use recycled spawn data when it's overloaded and running poorly to begin with, but I am not sure.

I was able to Get Penny's Eevee with My OT Name! We'll Se how long it lasts! It was hard to get the first. And I've tried another 20 times, and haven't been able to get a second. So much for aspirations for a whole team of partner marked Eevees.

Tried recreating this for a couple of hours; no luck. Used different "large" pokemon: Groudon, Walking Wake, Kyurem, even Arceus, and nothing. Tried using different trees throughout the biome. Nothing. Smeargle kept disappearing after ever battle ended. Hopefully more info comes out before this gets patched. I'd really like to dupe apricorn balls..

You need to find a specific tree and specific angle. Search for the additional video on this from Blaines, etc. You don't need to do the Imprison or Struggle step, but their setup is correct.

That method works, but you're wrong about it being the only way to pull off the glitch. I've shared this technique with others and they've reported being able to it successfully in the Canyon biome.

Wait, I just realized something- If you can only really have a clone pass as legal if the original is catchable in the Terarium, could you clone Meloetta if in the Coastal Biome?

as long as you didnt put it in pokemon home. yea you could have 2 legal meloetta. but if you did, pokemon home can see it has identical unique tracking ID.

I can’t get this to work. I’m using Tinkaton for her large hitbox and even found the same tree that was used in the video, but no dice; she just keeps getting pushed far from the tree the moment Smeargle transforms, and when I run from the battle, she despawns. Any advice? Edit: I’ve tried a lot of different things; leaving the area and coming back, saving before the Smeargle encounter, using random Smeargle without saving- I managed to get it eventually, after quite a lot of attempts. I now have a partner Tinkaton with my OT. :)

Congrats! Sadly it can be a bit unreliable to pull off - i've been trying to work out if there's any kind of foolproof technique but I haven't found anything consistent yet.

I haven't tried it myself, but i've heard from others that duped mons with home tracker IDs will be prevented from being traded or used in online raids, so it might not work unless you're trading to friends locally.

Yes, and preferably, Pokémon with matching location of origin too. A Pokémon that can't physically spawn in the Terrarium will probably be too identifiable as a duped mon.

It should work anywhere in the terrarium where you can find smeargle and trees (so every biome except Polar) - I've seen some comments referencing another video and saying it only works in some specific part of the Savannah but I've seen people doing this method successfully in both Canyon and Costal as well.

Smeargle glitch is perfect for duping items but not for pokemon. Yeah you are duping perfectly your mon but then when you catch it you do it in the savana zone, not the otiginal place where it was cstched. This make all pokemon chatcher wity this method illegals online(exeption for all the pokemon that can be actually chathed in savana zone). Catch this mon at your own risk knowing you can be banned if you use them online, while duping the items is 100% safe

I'm on the latest version (3.0.0) - it can be a bit tricky to pull off but it's seemingly easier to do with pokemon that have larger/wider hitboxes - I got Tinkaton to work first try, but Rillaboom took a few attempts before it worked.

Nope, the clone copies all the marks (or lack of marks) from the original, so you can't use it to get new marks on an existing pokemon.
