Boy do I know some Patchies in my life! The biggest example is the Paper Mario fandom (pacifically the TTYD fanbase) Reason why is because once Color Splash came out with it having the same battle system as Sticker Star (the most hated game in the fandom at the time) they were begging for a remaster of TTYD, and even creating a hashtag for it. And when we got that remaster 8 years later (really, it's a remake which is even better) they still took the time to hate on it by nitpicking every little thing about it. Like the frame rate, some dialog changes, or heck even the graphics and music. They even complain since it's a remake it's not worth your money because it's just a game from the GameCube. EVEN IF A TON OF PEOPLE WERE BEGGING THIS GAME TO BE REMADE IN THE FIRST PLACE!!!! Just goes to show even when a fan base gets what they want they are still very unsatisfied.

That show pretty much took up the bulk of my spare time, and in hindsight I very much used it as a crutch to avoid having to focus on human connection. I still struggle socially sometimes, but I make a point of putting myself out there and I have a much more active social life than I did during my adolescence.

I, indeed, know a few Patchys. Whether they're obsessed with Doctor Who, Harry Potter, Star Wars, Marvel movies, or even sports, they turn love of something into religious devotion. A response I often hear is, "let people enjoy things," as though my disapproval is an attack on them. My first thought is, "Don't you get bored?" My other is that it's foolish to dedicate your life to one thing as people who dedicate to their one lives because, well, what if you lose it? What will you be?

Yeah, I get that there are people that are like Patchy though. Obsessing over small things that are in media. That is what I do sometimes, especially when I get attached to a character. Though I try and avoid being obsessive over one thing. That's why I like that I am into a lot of things at a time, gives me multiple things my brain can hyper focus on and not just the one thing. I am planning on getting a job soon after I have a physical and mental evaluation in case I do have any underlining issues, I think I might be on the spectrum but I am not entirely sure. Outside of media though, I do have a life, not a very social life outside the internet but a life. I go outside regularly, I do chores, I am learning languages, I am drawing and painting things that aren't cartoon related. I just take care of myself and my family in general and as best as I can. Patchy's situation is the equivalent for wanting to meet Tom Kenny at A convention dressed up as Spongebob holding an animation cel of Spongebob for pure authenticity. One of either scenario will make someone's day just fine, but to take it so far like that is kinda depressing, and to his credit, Tom Kenny illustrates that so well as Patchy. I consider myself A well adjusted cartoon fan who can still try to blend in with society. (I only tale to people I know well, and only talk to people at A store for help answer A question I have about something I might want to purchase.) but I'm also learning to take those first steps to not be as obsessive as Patchy. Bottom line, concentrate on the important things in your life first before you indulge in your favorite things. You'll be better off that way.

I’d like to think, based off Alex Bale’s theory, is that Patchy never met SpongeBob and died suffocating in the sand he was buried in. After suffering a horrific death, Patchy wound up being so full of obsessiveness and rage that he became the Flying Dutchman and instead of idolizing SpongeBob, he terrifies him (and other Bikini Bottom citizens). But despite being the underwater equivalent to the devil or something, he is still a sad lonely “pirate” who wants to be SpongeBob’s friend.

@BriceInkling1387 ай бұрын
Well, I am most happy Patchy finally met SpongeBob after years since his first appearance. "SpongeBob's Big Birthday Blowout" is just a complete peak special. And cheers for the silver jubilee of SpongeBob! I'm very glad they did this back in 2019 and normally, SpongeBob is not a continuity driven show (seriously, when did continuity matter this much?). But I am welcoming to be more happy he goes from having a lot of failed attempts at being like SpongeBob or wanting to see SpongeBob for himself in person with everything biting back at him in the ass, to finally ending it off on a good note where SpongeBob is welcoming to meet him. And he makes for a great satirical character as how But on a lesser happier note, I can definitely get where this video is coming from with Patchy being a fanatic over a cartoon character we have known since 1999. I am a fan of a lot of stuff (i.e. SpongeBob, Looney Tunes, Thomas the Tank Engine, Adventure Time, South Park, The Simpsons, Smiling Friends, Rick and Morty, Pingu, Pokémon, Komi Can't Communicate, Regular Show, etc.). But there are those people from other fandoms acting like a Patchy by either that or doing things that Patchy himself would never do. I have seen and heard of other fandoms coming out as pure toxic with their obsessions over a show (or something else) that they take full advantage of their passion to the brim or doing things a normal person (regardless if they're a fan of something or not) should not ever do. And if I need to take your word for it, I'd rather choose safe so I don't be like those idiots in a fandom that put in words on a dead person's body by running his name into the ground over certain things they don't even like about their favorite franchise (what I mean by that is saying people like Stephen Hillenburg, Wilbert Awdry, Dr. Seuss, Mel Blanc, or even Walt Disney as examples are turning in their own graves despite already being dead by now) or doing terrible things to make a fandom of people look justifiable by downplaying everything by representing a fandom in a bad name and shooting yourself in the foot or both feet (The Loud House, Rick and Morty, and Steven Universe fandoms are good examples). It's okay to take a look at something in media and have them as your comfort thing. But don't ever act like Patchy (yes, that means the rest of the SpongeBob fanbase given the damage I've seen it do to itself) and think you can get away with your crazy shenanigans. Everything will turn right back on you.

getting rid of he things that make you happy isn't the answer. This is why we have the concept of collecting and seeing things grow with value. As result we made things o be collected, made too many of them and hey didn't become rare and didn't gain value. Being a fan and owning stuff doesn't hurt yo0u. Nor are "All fans" losers with no life who never grow up and stay at home. You're whole life can revolve around sports and THS is seen as "Acceptable" What makes being a fan cross the line is when you ruin other people's lives to reach your goal. And some times, meeting your hero leads to disappointment. You can find out that they in real life are nothing like them selves on he show. It would be more realistic if Patchy met SpongeBob and SpongeBob was a jerk or if Patchy went to see a New SpongeBob movie only to find out that his character design , personality and all his friends had completely changed. That there had been a reboot and Now SpongeBob was a Brillo pad , Sandy was a Chipmunk from Arizona, Mr Krabs wasn't greedy, Patrick was a female love interest, Squidwarth was an octopus and Gary wasn't in it at all. and hen Patchy went on attack blasting the studio with pirate weapons because he was mad that the show had changed.
