its ok one of the left coiled snails had an affair and now jeremy has 56 offspring and a wikipedia page (the 3 snails produced a grand total of 226 babies. not one of them inherited the left coiled mutation. as both an invertebrate focused zoologist and as someone who keeps and sells hundreds of bugs, i could not tell you why this left coiled snail mutation was deemed so important.)

Often that's his issue, he can never actually confess his interest to the woman, instead he lets it build up in his head - dreaming about being with her, this perfect woman that doesn't exist who'll attend his every need. It gets to the point where he project his own feelings onto this woman and believe she feels the same way too, even though she's giving every sign she's uninterested or uncomfortable. And then when she says she's already in a relationship, he feels like he's been cheated on. It's like a parasocial relationship. Speaking as someone who's had several of these devastated men suddenly go insane when one must inevitably bring up a boyfriend to get them to go away, because "I'm not interested" is taken as "I'm not interested _yet_ ". I once brought that I'd made shortbread for my partner's birthday, this guy went crazy, crying about how much we'd been through and how unfair it was that I had a boyfriend because he loved me and he "knew" I was into him too. I was like bruh, we just sit next to each other for neuroscience, you borrowed a pencil off me once and told me you hated my new haircut. For him, it had obviously been a really big thing, and it always makes you feel bad, but you can't kowtow to these guys because they're really not nice.

These guys just can't make reasonable expectations for themselves can they? The friends were all assholes who expected OP to treat this girl like a piece of meat that they did, then years down the line started clowning him for being in a genuine relationship with her. And the girl didn’t know that she was introduced as a joke either (I think?). She was never serious w any of the friends and never told OP that she had slept with them bc she didn’t want him to think less of her (or smthn like that) and OP himself didn’t care abt her history. When I was in college, I made a group of new friends and one of the guys just one day randomly expressed his dying love for me on Messenger.. I had a boyfriend of about 3 years at this time..
