I haven't commented, and I really should have sooner, but I want you to know that these videos have been amazing in my learning of this system. Whenever I'm confused about a rule in the CRB, I come here and there is a video (in this case, this one) that concisely explains the rule in an easy-to-understand way in a matter that other videos are not able to do. I hope you never stop making PF2e content.

Love your videos, they're really helpful! I do have one question though. Can armour runes be etched into unarmored clothing?
@HowItsPlayed4 жыл бұрын
Yes! If it is "Explorer's Clothing". That's one of the key features of purchasing explorer's clothes... so monks and wizards and the like can receive the benefits of armor runes without wearing armor.

This bit is very complex for me. So if I'm getting this right a Longsword can have a +1 Weapon Potency Rune, a Striking Rune adding 1 extra base damage die, and a Property Rune. Correct?

Correct!

Q. @6:32 you mentioned the Shadow Rune armor is in effect whenever it is 'worn and invested'. I don't see that it has the Invested tag though like, for instance, Boots of Elvenkind. Was that just an error or does it actually count against your Invested Max?
@HowItsPlayed4 жыл бұрын
I probably should have spelled it out in the video, but magic armor with runes does need to be invested. Per this bit on page 580: "If a suit of armor has any runes, it has the invested trait, requiring you to invest it to get its magical benefits."

If I understand correctly, I have a bastard sword with a +1 potency rune, I can add the striking property rune to it? I don't have to upgrade it to +2 first, correct?
@HowItsPlayed4 жыл бұрын
Correct. The plus value of the Potency rune has no effect on what level Striking rune can be added. You can have a +1 Major Striking Longsword, or you could have a +3 Striking Longsword.

Ha ha ha these sound fun! Now I need to figure out how you get them, and put them on gear.

I have a question. How do runes being applied to an item factor into the magic items that the players get at each level?
@HowItsPlayed4 ай бұрын
They count the same as any other magic item of their level when determining treasure.
@Dirpman424 жыл бұрын
Hello! I may have missed it or it's part of the next episode but does the "tier" of property rune affect how many you can add? Like a +2 Longsword can add a Major Striking and a Flaming or does the major count as 3 runes?
@Dirpman424 жыл бұрын
Also is part 2 getting re-uploaded also?
@HowItsPlayed4 жыл бұрын
The Potency rune tells you how many Property runes can be added. So, a +1 weapon can have no more than one Property Rune (like Flaming). It can also have a Major Striking rune because Striking runes (and Resilient runes) are Fundamental runes... not Property runes. And the "tier" of the Striking rune is irrelevant. Both of these weapons are valid: +1 Major Striking Greater Flaming Longsword +3 Striking Flaming Longsword But given the relative cost of +1 and +3 Potency runes, I don't know why anyone would choose to make either of those weapons.

Part 2 was released as a Patreon exclusive today and will be make available to everyone next week. I try not to re-upload videos unless there is a material error or content isn't clear.
@boneatellohumerus37382 жыл бұрын
Sorry to bother you but I was wondering if adding a striking rune takes up a slot for the property runes
@HowItsPlayed2 жыл бұрын
No -- Striking Runes are Fundamental runes, so they do not take up any of the slots for Property runes.
@Kevlar-78 Жыл бұрын
Is it possible to have o my a property rune on an item without at least a base potency rune ? IE : Flaming Longsword (No fundamental potency rune?) Or do you have to have a minimum of a +1 potency rune as a start ?
@HowItsPlayed Жыл бұрын
You have to have a +1 before you can add a property rune.
@JayJaded24 жыл бұрын
Question: Is it possible to add just a Striking rune to a weapon or does it have to have the Potency rune too? and if it has to have the Potency is the cost for the Striking rune (65gp) also including the Potency rune?
@HowItsPlayed4 жыл бұрын
The cost of the Striking runes does not include the cost of a Potency rune. As for if you can have a "+0 Striking Longsword", there is noting in the rules that explicitly forbids it, but it seems to a lot of people (myself included) that "Rules as Intended" says you need the Potency rune first. Check with your GM to see how they wish to handle it since this is a bit of a gray area.

@@HowItsPlayed Ok, thank you. I have been hunting the internet and forums for an answer and no one seems to know or want to even talk about it. i just didn't think that you could without a potency rune but it doesn't give just a striking so I will just go with that! fast reply awesome job on your Videos, they have helped me with a lot of questions that I had.

You're not hallucinating -- this is a re-upload (mentioned in the notes). The only thing that's different is I added some clarification around Striking runes -- specifically, that they do add additional "deadly dice" per the Deadly trait.

I am disappointed that PF2 has Striking Runes (default, Greater, Major) plus a Property over that. It becomes too 'power and stats' in my opinion, but I have not playtested. - That said, there are less stacking damage than in PF1.
