I absolutely loved Pathfinder and have played through it twice on the Ps4, played WotR last night and put in 8 hours, so far it has been amazing, my only concern is the slow movement speed in combat and even slower movement speed outside. How did you find that side of things?

It's fine so far. I liked the option to speed up movement in Pillars Of Eternity, though. Would be a nice feature during exploration in the Pathfinder games! -Paeter

@@glenferrieroadhawthorn So now having played a good angel playthrough and an evil demon playthrough, i've easily put over 250hours into the game on the ps4, i came across a few bugs but absoultely nothing gamebreaking, EVER! And compared to the first game which even now will blue screen every 2hours i found WoTR was so much better, hardly any crashes at all. They have done an excellent job on this port.

Haven't played the game on console as of yet but I've completed it on PC. It's just on overall more balanced game than Kingmaker and the Crusade system is fun. The kingdom management system in Kingmaker wasn't really completed which is why it felt disjointed and frustrating as you were put on an aggressive time limit.
@christiangeekcentral

Interesting to hear! I skipped kingdom management but might try the war/skirmish system in WoTR I've heard a little about. -Paeter

@@christiangeekcentral I recommend not skipping the Crusader system in WoTR mate. Not only is it genuinely fun and fleshes out Act III, you'll make a lot of gold that way as you can craft the relics and either use them for your party members or sell them. I tend to use some and sell others to invest more into the crusade e.g. more buildings/armies

@@StevenSmith-mk5fg Sounds good! It's a sort of tactics mini-game, right? Not always my cup of tea, especially if it gets complicated, but I'm definitely planning to give it a try! Thanks for the info! -Paeter

@@christiangeekcentralYeah basically, you recruit units to create armies (via buying them or getting them by completing tasks similar to how you did with Kingmaker where it takes a few days) and you use these armies to travel the same map as your party and conqueror forts. This is also a good way to uncover the map lines for the path you move your party on as the army doesn't need to rest as such. It has a certain amount of movement points per 24 hour in-game time You can develop these forts by building buildings that give you all kinds of stuff like the logistics/army/diplomacy etc points needed to upgrade the forts along with buildings that give your units stats/different types of units. You can recruit generals that make your armies even stronger and they level up. There are mage/ranger/fighter type generals you can recruit. When you defeat some armies, you get relics (weapons/belts/headgear etc) and you can also get this in the management window if you chose to complete the relic assignments. You focus on upgrading the stats like Kingmaker ofc and decide what else you want to focus on Another killer tip for this game is the combat itself. Pets in this game can have teamwork feats and this makes them by far the most powerful choice. Because of the mythic path system, most classes can now get a pet. So you can have 3/4 dogs/wolfs which are the best pet imo. When they all have teamwork feats such as tandem trip/outflank, you can have the enemies fall allot while giving your party loads of attacks of opportunities. Even on Hard difficulty, an enemy is often dead the moment he moves into your group to attack one of your party members if you keep your group bunched together due to the teamwork feats and the amount of attacks of opportunity you get. In essence, it means a more balanced/fun combat experience where you can turn the difficulty up and enjoy the strategy

Pathfinder: Kingmaker was one of the least accessible RPG's I've ever tried to play in my life. I'm a huge fan of PoE and especially Divinity, but Pathfinder: Kingmaker was so unbelievably frustrating to try and figure out. It felt literally inscrutable at times. It made me feel like a stupid child and that's not what I'd call a good time. I'm really hoping this one will be more intuitive and well designed than Kingmaker.
@christiangeekcentral

My guess is that will depend on the elements you found frustrating in Kingmaker, as the underlying rules and systems are largely the same. Although I suspect I avoid a number of frustrations because of the gameplay and difficulty options I select. -Paeter

I agree. It's all about quality over quantity, this game is the definition of pain in the ass, it just tried to do too much. Pillers 1 & 2 and Divinity 1 & 2 are my top picks, and you can include Dragon Age Ogrins also. I thought Kingmaker was ok, but I hated everything about this game. Hated the puzzles, hated the story and writing, the controls felt even worse, hated the companions, hated the levels, everything just sucked, and chapter 5 was the definition of shit. The soundtrack was good though. Another thing I hated was the fact you couldn't take 5 steps without picking up 100 pieces of pointless loot.

As someone with a niche taste in games, which is mounted combat, I really want to like this game, since too few games have what I like, because players and developers are against mount combat for some illogical reason, but I can't stand being forced to use a cursor in battle on the PS4. Seriously? So many gameplay settings in the main menu but no option to turn off the cursor in battle and fight Dragon Age: Origins on console style? Is there gonna be an update that allows me to directly control my character in battle without the cursor, or do I have to send the developers a letter telling them that the cursor kinda ruins the experience? At least let me control the characters without the cursor in a fight in real-time mode.

I haven't run into that yet. Instead, as I understand it, there is an army tactical skirmish minigame now and then, but I am almost certain you have the option to let the AI handle that automatically if you want, like the option you had in Kingmaker to let the AI handle kingdom management so you can't fail. -Paeter

That's true, and that has always kept me from booting them in the past. But I actually felt like Kingmaker ran a tad long for my tastes. And so I'm wagering I won't be missing much. And there's always the option of letting them join, but then booting them to the tavern until you actually want to do their quests. I will probably try something like that and just keep them for as long as they are useful to me. (The motto of a Neutral Evil party leader) -Paeter

Not sure where the anger here is coming from. I don't think of it as anything admirable or a mark of status to have a PS5 and I have actually advocated many times on the CGC podcast for people to wait on purchasing one, as I don't think its necessarily worth it yet for many consumers. However because of the numerous performance problems that Kingmaker had on the PS4, I thought it was important to be crystal clear that my review is based on how it runs on the PS5. So my intent in mentioning and emphasizing that is only to help PS4 users avoid potential frustration with the game on PS4. I hope you're feeling better today. Take care. -Paeter
