I love the detail that Nagumo ejects two shells from her shotgun before firing off the signal flare. Like, she knew she might need to kill Tsuge, but when he engages her in philosophical dialogue and poses no threat to her, she know she'll be taking him alive. But at the same time, she's so supremely confident, she knew she only needed two shells to bring down the bad guy before signaling for cleanup. Also, that searching look she gives him when she cuffs him. Like, "How could you have done this? How could this be where you ended up?"
One of the best ending to any show ever, with few words and symbolism it can really make a diffrence
@The80sGreatestHits Жыл бұрын
In the comments around here, some believe that the scene where Shinobu arrests Tsuge symbolizes that she gave her undying love to this man. But I don't think that's the case. I believe she felt a lot of pity for having to lock him up, for old times' sake, and yes, she might still have feelings for him (as you sometimes do for an ex-lover anyway) but the attraction she feels by Goto also turned into a sincere feeling, yes, as time went on. I don't believe it would go up in smoke overnight like that. Shinobu is not that kind of frivolous woman. She already loves Goto, yes (even though she has fear for have a serious relationship with him).

Yeah. I think the undoing of the clasping hands for the handcuff to go on symbolises the opposite. That she’s willing to let go to maintain law and order.

The second anime that I have watched and would reminisce even months after watching it. The music and the animation in Patlabor is just on another level.
Random facts: Live-action spoilers about what happened to the characters after Patlabor movie 2 ending. In the live-action show Next Generation Patlabor, which is set more than 12 years after this movie's ending, reveals the fates of SV2 members after Tsuge's failed coup d'etat. The maintenance team's chief Shige(first Patlabor character to get live-action appearance, portrayed by the voice actor) is the only one around for the live action show, while it's revealed that the charismatic previous maintenance chief Sakaki has passed away sometime after the movie's ending. And the mini Episode 0 briefly shows the backs of each SV2 member while Shige talks about what happened to them. in the live-action TV show's final episode, itself a prelude to the live-action movie also serves as a direct sequel to Patlabor 2 movie ending. It's revealed that both Goto and Shinobu have been basically on the run from the Japanese authority after the events of Patlabor 2. The 3rd generation SV2 chief Gotoda, a college junior of Goto, goes to meet Tsuge(portrayed in live-action without properly showing his face) who's still in prison. Afterwards, Gotoda gets to talk to both Goto and Shinobu on the phone in separate occasions. Gotoda later even goes to meet Shinobu in person, making her first live-action appearance, again without properly showing her face, but her voice was still the same in the final movie. While it was still nice to see and listen to a faceless Shinobu, Goto doesn't even make a voice appearance, which was a real shame. Goto's name only gets mentioned several times. The movie also makes a blurry re-enactment of some scenes from Patlabor 2, such as the SV2's final sortie scene.

Is the live action show good ?
@archer242 жыл бұрын
Btw where can i watch the live action??
@triplehate67592 жыл бұрын
@@Onewingerdraven Unfortunately, no, it is dogshit. It cannot decide if it wants to be a parody of the original OVAs/movies, remake, or sequel, and tries to be all three at once, creating an odd, off tone that is way too jokey and "look what a bunch of assholes these people are" most of the time (if I had to sum up Patlabor: The Next Generation in a single phrase, that would have to be "identity crisis"). All the characters are pretty much just carbon copies of the anime cast, which hurts the whole "Next Generation" bit. The labors are barely in it, and when they show up as real robots they are cool, but a lot of the time it is just lousy CG. The movie conclusion, as mentioned above, is basically just a remake of Patlabor The Movie 2, but less satisfying, less conclusive, and with even LESS labor action - that is just two stationary labors shooting at a helicopter.

@@triplehate6759 yup. The live-action TV series and movie all generally suck. I didn't like how they say most of the original SV2 crew's lives sucked after their SV2 days. And the humor was bad. I kinda liked Episode 0 and 1 of the TV series. But that was it. As you said, the next generation crew were bad bland copies of the original SV2 crew. The live action movie which was supposed to be a sequel to Patlabor 2, was also a bad carbon copy of the previous movie. Heck, the Patlabor Reboot short cast was much more lively and interesting despite only getting 10-minute appearance. I really wish they make a series based on the Reboot short.

@SpinalZero Well, Patlabor 3 takes place between movies 1 and 2. So there is no problem in terms of continuity.

This is one anime where you forget these are cartoon characters. It's almost like they shot live action version first, then remade anime version.
Like many fans, I'm not too happy that Goto didn't get to be with Shinobu in the end, but that was the direction this movie was taking from the beginning. I can only wish Goto and Shinobu got together in the other timeline(TV series - new OVA), although the story ended without a firm conclusion for Goto-Shinobu relationship in that timeline.
The scene where the seagulls fly between the two holding hands is so beautiful.

Dang man, old anime just looks way better; especially the background art. I understand that the way they do animation in Japan is different since the earlier 2000s/90s/80s/70s/60s. But they can mimic it with the new technology that they have. Not even anime needs to be high resolution; I'll take this any day.

Most are able to cope, but too many slip between the cracks. The Antagonist in this film was no different. He came back changed he distanced himself from his love and staree on in disbelief on how peaceful it was in his city while wars and genocide raged on else where. He wanted to bring war to his city to enlighten them that this peace can shatter at any moment.

It's not only Japan, the western world is also in decay. Remember that the USA has had a very big influence over Japan ever since the end of the World War 2. In essence, whatever shit happens over there, will happen to Japan as well.

@@Loghy To be honest, Japan is still a colony of the United States. Furthermore, Japanese politicians are not allowed to think for themselves about the country and the military. In fact, the US presidential election is just around the corner, and almost all Japanese think tanks and political organizations have given up on thinking in advance about the US policies and global strategies of each candidate.This is the current situation in Japan.
@Loghy6 ай бұрын
@@ffs5761 I'm interested about the "politicians are not allowed to think for themselves about the country and the military". I'm from Brazil, and politics here are mostly driven by self interest more than anything. For instance, recent laws have increased the import tax for just about anything, so the average person would have to pay 50% more if the item they're buying from outside costs less than 50 USD, however, if the item costs more than that, it'll cost the DOUBLE. Corporations lobbyed lawmakers to pass this law, and also made themselves almost immune to this tax, so they'll keep overcharging items that they're importing themselves. All of this happened because they were losing money since brazilians like to cut the middleman. So there you have it, I do not have any ideas how the situation would be around here if it were the opposite.
I'm still confused for Nagumo and the villain at the end, they hold hands like a couple, like a marriage scene, and then she put the cuffs in her hand too, so I asume she refuses Gotou, and the thing what he tells her, dont stay with him, come back to me, Im waiting for you... I cant tell you why im so sad right now, and then Gotou says, these youngs is the only thing I have left... wtf bro! you put another needle in my heart. But Im not sure, maybe she do her job and come back to Gotou?
I do not know japanese, but having the subtitles available allows for more people to understand what is being said in this scene. Of course, I could put the youtube captions and get the video without its own subtitles, but I thought it would be too much of a hassle.
That shot of Shinobu Nagumo and Yukihito Tsuge interlocking fingers as Nagumo cuffs Tsuge is both sad and romantic all at the same time. It also conveys the feelings of lingering love they have for each other and the mutual understanding they both share for their respective world views and beliefs. Yet it also demonstrates the reality of the consequences that Tsuge's actions created while demonstrating the conviction of behind Nagumo's sense of duty. I love it !!!
