when i was 9, i was obsessed w/ super mario to the point i asked my parents for plushes of ALL the characters & enemies for my 10th birthday. this resulted in my parents indeed getting plushes of most chars & enemies, but here's the thing: almost none of them were official. wiggler, chain chomp, bowser, goomba, paratroopa, koopa troopa, you name an enemy, i had a plush of it on the kitchen table for my 10th birthday. there were like 45 in total. but most were bootlegs from ebay. i still played with them & enjoyed them anyway. but. my favorite, & the one i've kept after so long, even after we sold/gave away all the plushes, was a green yoshi. i've had him since that time, it's been about 8 years now. this whole time, i thought he was official. this video just revealed to me he's a bootleg. this yoshi has been with me across the usa, to disneyland, the grand canyon, los angeles, disney world, & now i'm finding out he was merely a cheap copy for easy cash.

When you were talking about fan work at the end, I wish you had talked about the Grand Dad fan game- a game mechanically based on The Flintstones: Rescue if Dino and Hoppy and inspired by the infamous 7 Grand Dad bootleg game, but built from the ground up to be a love letter to bootleg video games. You even get to play boss battles against other bootlegs brought up in this video including Somari and Felix the Cat for the genesis. Whenever you look at a comments section for an official Felix video or anything Felix The Cat unrelated to bootlegs, there's a high chance the comments sections will feature a ton of morons saying HET in reference to Joel. In Venezuela, I remember living very close to a Pizzeria in Maracaibo where they had Mario characters on the walls, hand drawn. They actually weren’t too shabby. The pizzeria itself was actually named just Mario Bros, with Mario and Luigi from MKDD on the banner. The best part? They specialized in mushrooms, whether it was pizzas or just toppings. As a russian, i can say the popularity of bootleg consoles is VERY accurate. EVERY store that i went to, that sells electronics, always has either orange cartridges, or consoles with the box art saying "500 16 bit and 8 bit games included!!!". I even have one of these along with my nintendo switch and ps3 lol.

That gave me a good laugh at the time, I'm glad that was in this video. Chinatown is the best for getting bootlegs. I got some bootleg Pokemon figures which looked pretty cool. They were little figures of the Gen 6 starters that you would get inside a plastic poke ball, so you wouldn't know which one you'd be getting. None of the poke balls were the classic red though, just white bottom with random color on the top, so I got a purple one and a green one, to represent the Master Ball and the Safari Ball. I got Froakie and one of the two different kinds of Pikachus you could get. Pretty nice

Bootleg doesn’t always mean bad. Some unofficial plushes and similar products can be really good. It’s just that most are terrible. I used to collect bootleg Pokémon figures from a liquor store. They at most have 2 colours and never in the right places. I love them.
