I was fresh out of high school when at community college. At the time I would go to the local mall when malls had arcades and it was Tilt(And before that it was Aladdin's Castle) My high school friend worked there and he said hey we're getting in mortal Kombat 4. I said oh my God that's awesome. He said you can be one of the first ones to play it. One of the best moments of my life lol

It was the first big black work tribal tattoo I had ever seen.... That mall is where I grew up.

@@Mohawk_Productions I'm in MI these days but my best friend from literal elementary school still lives there and that area specifically isn't terrible. I think the thing there really has been more the usual problems of urban sprawl like crime etc but cost of living in KY can vary wildly too cuz last time I was in KY I was in Corbin which is on the tn border and it's an entirely different economy than Florence up near Cincinnati... Corbin was dirt cheap but there is crushingly little work as far as good career type jobs. Hell Corbin was a dry county until about ten years ago if that tells you anything. So yeah my best advice is to be specific if you're looking into going to KY cuz it really does vary so much within a kind of small state.

MK4 character Quan Chi: Beats opponent to death using the victim's own leg. Dave Lister of Red Dwarf: 'Shut up or I'll beat you to death with the wet end!' Connection? Coincidence? Could this be an instance where someone got 'inspired' by some random line in a BBC TV Sci - fi / Comedy show? For those of you not aware, I'm quoting Dave Lister from a scene where he needed fingerprint ID to open a door. He grabbed an arm of some deceased person to use on a fingerprint scanner. One thing highly worth mentioning on MK Gold for Dreamcast is there actually 2 versions. The launch version had the print on disk in gold and was HEAVY with bugs. The game was later rereleased with the "Hot New" sticker on the cover, and the print on the disk was red, not gold. This had a LOT (but not all) of the bugs fixed, and is way better to play than the lanch version.

1997 was just an odd year with me and fighting games where I just wasn't satisfied with any of them between this, King Of Fighters 97 or Street Fighter 3: New Generation even though the graphics looked good. This was also when I went on a long hiatus with the MK series and had no desire to play any other 3D versions until they went back to the traditional gameplay with MK9. I had this for a few months on N64 until I traded the system and all my games in for a Playstation 1 to play Symphony Of The Night and Metal Gear Solid. This isn't a bad game but it just never felt like Mortal Kombat to me and now that you explained the connection with War Gods then that's why this game never gelled with me because it's based on that. The gate was still pulled down, but we could still see into the arcade, and spotted the 2 brand spanking new MK4 arcade cabinets set up in the middle of the floor. The manager who was inside at the time, I guess overheard mine and my brother’s excitement, and actually came over, unlocked the gate, and let us in early so we could be the first to play it!! If you haven't had the chance to check it out, I strongly urge you to do post haste. Just picture the NBA Jams guy cursing like a drunken sailor while he's announcing a game, and you will get the idea. Fun Fact- Apparently, during the recording of NBA Jams Tournament Edition for the Snes, the announcer started saying, "Get that sh*t outta here!" when a player packs the ball (bats it away). The developers thought it was hilarious and tried to keep it in. Unfortunately, Nintendo wasn't having any of it, so they killed the idea. Thankfully, not before the developers made a "dirty version" of the game. Copies of the dirty version have been found and dumped for all to enjoy/use.

If you had MK4 and a gameshark on N64 there was a code to play as Kitana, but it would crash after the first round.

Interesting revisit, sir. However, I wish you brushed upon the topic that Belokk was a cut character during development that was meant to be the Sub-Boss for Mortal Kombat 4, similar to Goro, Kintaro, and Motaro. If properly brought back under the right circumstances, I think Belokk would be a breath of fresh air in the lore of Mortal Kombat.

i played it on Playstation back in the day, wasn't bad, still liked MK3 best at that time

The first 2 games are still in my top 10 favorite games ever. They lost me with 3, the automatic combos ruined the game for me. This one was ok though, the endings were hilarious.

They lost me with the third game as well. Had no idea what they're going for.

To play as Meat, you have to choose Group Mode and win a match as each character. This must be done consecutively (i.e., you can't lose a single time). I don't remember if single player matches count or if you need to do it in two player mode. Also, Kitana's model and code is leftover in the arcade, PC, and Nintendo 64 versions (the PlayStation port only has her code). You can even play as her in the PC and Nintendo 64 games through cheat software (e.g., using a GameShark). The Dreamcast port/upgrade *would* have been the best version if it wasn't for all the bugs it has. Supposedly, the "Hot! New!" re-release fixed many of the bugs while still being (at least a bit) glitchy.

Interesting the first version they released to acrades didn't have any bosses or endings! Seems more like something a game company would try to pull today. :-P

NewTeks Lightwave and VideoToaster were the go to tech for the Babylon 5 tv series as well. Most likely, the models for this game were created on a commodore Amiga then as well.
