I am about to start a very relaxed quilt along over on my Patreon Page - I think it will happen on Tuesdays, because today is Tuesday and I have the introduction ready today.
Check out my fabric choices and stay tuned for the rest of the fun.
I am going to explore all of this in the next few weeks....
1. fabric choices
2. how the trip Around The World block is constructed
3. all the variations this block gives us
4. pinning out the quilt top - batting choices
5. hand quilting vs long arm quilting
6. binding
7 finishing touches - quilt label, tie, storage bag etc
these are not weekly topics - but everything I hope to cover plus whatever else the group throws at me!
Don't worry if you don't want to make a Trip Around the World Quilt- just join us for a weekly dose of sewing, knitting, whatever you like - together on The Lime Green Sofa
This will be available from next Tuesday to all Patrons $10 and above
Join the Patreon family here
/ thelasthomelyhouse
in addition to the QAL the community enjoys 18 months of past content, videos, readings, chats and more!
The free to use music is Hanna's Song again - I really like it!
Take care everyone and stay safe and please don't worry if you don't want to join Patreon - there will always be plenty of free to view - ad free content here on KZbin at The Last Homely House!

I have a quilt that was made for my mom as a wedding gift in 1946. Friends and family each made a 12 inch square, like a sailing ship, and embroidered their name on the bottom. I don’t know who sewed it together. My grandmother’s was the odd square as she pieced hers wrong - it didn’t look like a ship! I dearly loved my “Gram”, and I sewed for her in later years. Her name was Agnes and she lived to 96. My mom is 97 today. Thanks for bringing up old memories.

Thank you so much Kate for your kind words. I've been missing you this week. I live in Gig Harbor Washington just a bit south of Seattle. I found your channel just at the beginning of the stay at home order here in Washington. You became a friend and I enjoyed watching you everyday. You gave me something to get up and get going for every morning. I had just lost my lovely dog of 10 years Gracie and I was not working (I am a assistant teacher at a Montessori school here in Gig Harbor) so I was home alone in a small apartment. Your presence everyday helped me get through this strange and isolating times. Since watching you and lovely Norma and Rita, I found 2 sweet tiny little 5 week old kittens that were abandoned. I have named them Meg and Jo from Little Women. Thank you for your calming presence and your beautiful Homely House.

I so enjoyed your reply to Kate..I realize this was a review I was viewing , but read responders..I feel much the same way, she is like having a friend for afternoon tea and fabric exchange..I am in Colorado with a dog, rescued with a missing front leg, Maltese..Such a sweet fellow. He was 3 when adopted and now almost 7. Do you quilt ? Majored in Early Childhood Education but wound up doing something very different. I , along with you, will continue to enjoy Kate.

I know what you mean about the hashtag thing, Glyndeen. I went to Instagram on my computer and signed up, but evidently, because I can't afford a cell phone, I can only view what other people posted. I cannot myself post from my computer. My role in the Instagram LGS community is limited to that of voyeur, so I haven't bothered learning about hashtags. Be well, and know that you're not alone. Please let me encourage any of you who are feeling the financial pinch of these times we live in. And that includes those of us (myself included) who have very small incomes in even the best of times. Many quilters use the good sections of their unusable clothes as grist for the quilting mill. It's an old, respected tradition of frugal quilters in many parts of the world. As long as the fabric is still sturdy, many garments that would otherwise be discarded can be upcycled, the best parts cut away and laid aside for quilting. Sometimes that means colors that don't seem to go together, but if we separate our pile of potential into darks and lights, we can make very fine, even sophisticated, quilts. An old blanket for batting and maybe a sheet for backing, and we have something greater than the sum of its parts. Bless you, friends, and be at peace.
@skully7763

It is often really nice to make quilts out of old clothes and fabric. I helped to make a baby quilt out of fabric from a lady who couldn't sew any more, due to arthritis. She had already started it and I just did some of the piecing of the last parts. It contained fabric from through out her life, like a denim shirt of her deceased husband, a lace and linen panel her mother had made and the curtains from her old dining room (very 60's print) etc. She wanted a quilt that represented all of the people in her life that had shown her love, to be made into a quilt for her first great grandchild. I loved how it turned out, and it did indeed feel like it radiated out a lot of love.

iforgettherest whitman in Australia my grandma made Wagga quilts. These were hard times pre war and fabrics, old coats, jumpers etc were sewn onto hessian bags for bedding quilts. I ordered the jelly rolls before this, last week. They were having a sale so I bought some that I thought I would use in the future. I needed black material to do a quilt as you go for my granddaughter who likes black and purple.

@@thelasthomelyhouse A question if I may, being in the states is the price the same 10 or is it more to adjust for dollar difference?

Still haven't got a sewing machine. When I wanted to look for one quarantine started. Also never made a quilt before. But I do love watching quilts being made. And that's what I will do. 😉 I'm more a pastel kind of girl like your mum but I do love you new fabrics. Can't wait to see how it all turns out. 💞💞💞xxx

Sandra Oranje I got a Singer machine from Joanne’s just before quarantine. $89! But you can order and pick up from store. I bought it just for crafts, but it works great.

You can also hand sew this. I do everything by hand. Even when I let them machine quilt I still hand sew the patches. Its an ideal quilt pattern to start quilting with!

@@nicolethijs5428 Great idea. I will give that some thought. I do everything by hand now, that's why I wanted a sewing machine. 😉
