Started looking up Patrice during “lockdown”, the YT algorithm led me to WATP goofing on John and the rest is history. Patrice was “born too soon” as they say.

I'd say he died too soon. I think he was born at the perfect time comedy wise. Born later, he doesn't come up with guys like Burr,C.K.,Norton,Attell, etc. No Opie and Anthony, where I found him to have some of his funniest moments.

I been listening to patrice on opie n amthony everyday at work for 4 years straight

Yeah, well, maybe you should. "Knock it off, Spade!!" Patrices hush tone when he responded to Bobo made it 1000x times better. Then, like always, Opie ruined it.

Thank you so much for this. Elephant in the Room has got to be in the top 5 comedy specials and hopefully in the future Patrice's name will be uttered in the same sentence as Pryor's. I think Patrice had just graduated to appearing in theaters. Elephant was recorded in a theater and appears to be the peak performance of his material which was brilliantly funny as well as a seductive entry into the red pill philosophy long before it was called that. Mr P and Unreleased were recorded in clubs and I could be wrong, but he seems to do his material only as a last resort. He was very conversational and quick enough to excel at crowd work. He was so good at it he did a healthy amount of it on Elephant, hell, he opens the show with some. Not every crowd enjoyed his crowd work however. Especially those who knew him from webjunk 2.0. He routinely used to walk out people who did not appreciate him - but he would always pay their tab. He once sai that the perfect crowd consisted of 50% of people who thought he was funny, and 50% who did not. This is how he knew he was saying things that affected people. I think that is an amazing attitude. Is there any other comedian who felt like that?

The trying to care about a tragic disaster is an old bit he use to do. I was always confused about the Mr. P release.

The ending was so sad. It was kinda sad the first time, but knowing what happened...

It does seem, ever so slightly. Craig mind games, perhaps.
