I never realized how offensively gifted Kane is. Being a Detroit fan I've always disliked and ignored Chicago. Now I know. BUT, he is not defensively gifted. He is a puck possession extraordinaire. What he really needs is a defensively solid team with a good coach who needs some more punch up front. Carolina are you listening?

It seems like Chicago was looking to the future, and embracing that. Detroit is bridging until they can be perennially competitive. Kane, to me, seems like a better fit in Detroit, but what does he really want?

You forgot to mention all of the records kane was close to but didnt reach for the hawks. He could reach most goals and assists playing with bedard. He may want that kinda thing too. And he also may feel some responsibility to reciprocate what happened for him. Might feel like the marion hossa of his time.

I love the idea. The main point here is that Hawks fans would be entertained and filling the seats while we bide our time waiting for the prospect pool to mature. From Kane's point of view, he can relax and enjoy the fandom and glory of being a legend while putting up new Blackhawk scoring records and cementing his place as the all time most cherrished Blackhawk. I think it is a win-win. Of course, if Kane wants to go chase a cup somewhere else, more power to him. But who is to say with a 5 year 20 million dollar contract in Chicago, he doesn't get that cup in year 4 or 5?

Why would it scare me if Kane goes back to the Blackhawks? I mean... why should it? If he does, it's for an easier, zero-pressure wrap to a long and successful career. I should also note that, just because there might be conversations within an organization about bringing a player in doesn't mean those conversations are at all serious, nor are they even remotely likely to be fruitful. After all, it takes two to tango, and Kane may want to go to a contender for one last hurrah, he might ant to stay in Detroit to see us make it back to the playoffs, or he may join the Sens or Sharks because why the hell not? Who really knows what's going through his mind right now?

Kane & Toews at anytime could of restructured their contracts for Hawks to try to win… GET the Same Money, but over 3-4 years longer to free up 4-8 million PER YEAR to bring in more talent or to keep talent that was let go.. BUT they CHOOSE the “ALL ABOUT MEEEEEEEEEE”.. way… Funny that Crosby & Malkin did it… Wonder why Pittsburgh keeps winning and Hawks rotted for stripping team Just for those 2…. lmfaooooo They’re Old,gone and should STAY GONE… How’d Deadwings do this year with Kane? Crosby and Malkin last played in the 2nd round in 2018. Kane just turned down Florida and Boston and Vegas. And if he wants to next year will be on one of the best teams in the NHL. As for how the "Dead Wings" did this year w Kane, they did better than Pittsburgh that's for sure. Kane has earned every dollar he's ever made in the NHL. You are besides incredibly stupid one of the worst "Blackhawks fans" I've ever seen. No Hawks fan would ever say Pat Kane was overpaid or cost the team anything. Also, genius, money paid to you in 3-4 added installments later on rather than upfront a decade earlier isn't "the Same Money". go shopping right now and tell me what your money's worth compared to 10 years ago.

I agree that "the Wings are fine either way", but I think that we would be better off if he stayed. It ultimately comes down to what Kane himself wants. Detroit is not going to be able to match what someone else will be offering him in terms of money or chances to win another Stanley Cup, so if either of those are his priority then he will be leaving for sure, but he's given no public indication of wanting to leave for either of those reasons. Kane has said that Detroit has been a very good situation, and that he is tired of switching teams so often, so those might be reasons why he may want to stay. It is possible that he has already decided that he wants to stay, but won't publicly say so because doing so would put him at a disadvantage in contact negotiations. It is also possible that if he wants stability, that he would want a few more years on a new contract than Yzerman would normally want to give him. The bottom line is that we don't know. Nearly everything I have said here is speculative. Most likely it will be a few more months before we find out.

If I end up being wrong I will be the first to admit it but I believe there is a 0% chance Kane plays for Chicago ever again; I think he is effectively banned from the franchise just like Toews and many others, and was deliberately kicked out. And I think he hates the current front office and leadership there w a passion. This leak by the Hawks about 'will talk about bringing him back' is imo a PR move to make the Hawks look good to their fans, who all want Kane back. They get to pretend they tried to bring him back. And it also serves the Hawks' interests in that it will make Kane look bad to those fans, bc it'll seem like they tried to bring him back and he refused. They did something similar w the trade of him, they acted like he wanted out. He didn't, they were forcing him out same as Toews, and he decided to just at least get a free playoff appearance out of it. The Hawks are an organization of rats. They saw in Feb how much it is still Kane's franchise and Kane's fanbase, and realized they had to do something this offseason about it to make the fans turn on him a bit. So this is their attempt.

This is as cynical a take on something I think I have ever read. I think you sound like a bunch of sour grapes. I hope he comes back. And I hope you have to admit you were wrong. Kyle was up front about not bringing K and T back. He saw it as the best thing for the rebuild. But now that 2 years have gone by, I think things are different having Bedard and needing someone to show him the way. To sign Kane could be an admission of a possible mistake and I think the right move for all concerned as long as Kane would be happy here.

They left fans to read between the lines to figure it out. They made every effort last year to make it seem as if Kane wanted out and they were 'doing right by him' and 'agreeing to his wishes' by trading him. The only reason they had to admit to forcing out Toews is bc unlike Kane he couldn't be traded, so he was just still there at the end and they had to do something or say something or they'd have been called out for it in the offseason that they hadn't celebrated his last home game etc. Davidson did everything he could to force them both out and mess w their careers from the first day he took over, and then did everything he could to hide from the fans what he'd done and the real reasons why - hint, it's none of the nonsense he said. It's all about his ego. He wants the whole team to be put together by him and be guys he can take credit for. He wants to pretend the dynasty never happened and he's a guy building from nothing. That and perhaps front office pressure to bury the dynasty players.

Black Hawks could become an old folks hockey player team. That would be interesting. The Red Wings will probably not resign Kane. If they were going to,, they would have already done it.

? The Red Wings will very much try to re-sign Kane. He will reach free agency. He was always going to. The Wings first priority is signing extensions for Seider and Raymond, but Kane is likely the next item on the agenda, and they will certainly try. Chicago is a much younger team than Detroit, and imo there is 0 chance Kane signs there. Nor is he welcome there.

I’d be shocked if they didn’t try AT ALL, first theyd have to prioritize Raymond and Seider before anything, next I’d go for a RHD to spell Mo, after that I’d worry about getting Kaner, but I have to assume Yzerman and Co. would want him back

He was better than Raymond by virtually every analytic and statistic, and is much more proven, why should he get paid half or less than half what Raymond will make?

@ScottStenlund Detroit is a realistic option same as a bunch of other teams. He was never signing an extension in-season. The point of betting on yourself is that if you win you get to collect, or at least look around. He bet on himself and won big, he's going to consider his options. I will say that the team collapsing w Larkin out twice, and Kane getting screwed over w the lineups, both really hurt Det's chances. But they are still a contender.

@ScottStenlund the 'report' to that effect is based on nothing. there is no inside info so no way to know. he will reach free agency, that is all anyone knows. Yzerman is interested in trying to bring him back, Kane counts Detroit among possible teams he could sign with next year.
