I absolutely disagree with the premise that "devil's advocates" are combative people... I think they can add a great deal of value to the team. However, the team - and the leader - need to be secure enough in who they are to receive pushback. A leader who only wants "yes" people is missing out on an important resource to help the team/organization become more impactful, effective and profitable.

You can't learn if you aren't challenger or even know whats wrong as sometimes even you don't know.
