Yeah Ive dealt with the Steelers era, 49-ers, Cowboys, and 20 years of Tom Brady. This is pretty standard in the NFL. Certain teams are winners, most are losers. Fan of the losers cry. If the Bills had won three SBs everyone would be saying the refs handed the game to them last Sunday. But they haven't so everyone sees what really happened because hatred isn't distorting their perception: the Bills were mediocre and the Ravens just kept screwing up.

The Chiefs had a halted drive extended by subjective penalty The Texans had two first downs pulled back because of a subjective penalty. One of those killed the drive. People can point to many Chiefs holding and PI that are not called. It only goes one way.

If you check the stats regarding penalties nothing really stands out as abnormal. Mahomes has had 6 roughing the passer calls go his way this season, while Josh Allen has had 5 this season. For his career Mahomes has had 31 roughing the passer calls and Josh Allen has had 38 passer calls in his career. The Chiefs penalty yards this season is 829 yards, while Buffalo has had 833 yards. So...I don't get it. People just hate teams that continue to dominate. As an old KC resident and Chiefs fan, I sat through 30 odd years of mostly bad Chiefs teams, so I'm going to enjoy it.

Because the bad subjective penalties occurs on key 3rd downs and only occurs one way, and occurs when the game is on the line. Many, many people have pointed out that the Chiefs get plenty of penalties as a way to explain there's no bias. But, you can't have it both ways. You can't say, it's not biased because they also call lots of calls against the Chiefs, but then say "it's not biased because the Chiefs are so disciplined they don't make penalties".

It was only the Brady Superbowl where Chief's holding was called and because they couldn't hold, you saw Mahomes under pressure the entire game. So that's interesting showing Brady > Mahomes for Ref bias. And it's not just Superbowl. There's independent analysis out there showing many bad holds the Chiefs O-Line committed in the Bills & Ravens' playoff games last year as well. Chiefs had an average O-Line during the 2023 regular season, then none of the 3 teams, Bills, Ravens, 49ers, who were known all season for being able to pressure QBs, could get any pressure on Mahomes for 3 straight games.

Why do great quarterbacks get calls? Because the defense is highly motivated to hurt them - more motivated than they are for average quarterbacks - and this comes out in the way the defense plays. Therefore the refs see the violence aimed at Mahomes and they call it fairly - because guys are especially trying to hurt him by hitting him in the head or in the knees - when it would take nothing to hit him in the chest.

Mahomes gets the "Least" roughing the passer calls per 100 attempts than any other starting QB's, Allen gets the most per passing attempts. Wait what, The Chiefs left tackle has been the league's most penalized player for count it TWO seasons straight.
