Grandpa was in a Cavalry Guards regiment during WW2, wasn't sent out to combat as he was illiterate. Still, they performed patrol duty on horseback throughout the capital. His best bit of lore about WW2 was about the day Hitler killed himself, there were massive commemorations in the city, but out of the blue they got a courier message; scramble the fuck away to downtown, there is a lady running around naked and you must arrest her. Shenanigans ensue, he didn't give much details on how they got her except that the squad's machinegunner borrowed a lasso and eventually roped her. I was told this lore at age 15, awesome
