A wildcamp high in the Peak District on Kinder Scout Plateau
In this video I take my drone and fly it high above the Kinder Scout plateau to reveal its desolate but amazing landscape
Due to this being a lightweight camp could not take any beer or wine due to the weight, there was room for a couple of 12 year old single malt whisky,s though !
link to my Kinder Scout Edge Walk and Bivvy I did in Septerber 2016

The drone shot walking up the boulder field at the beginning was excellent Patrick and as for the flasks needing to be a wee bit bigger, that made me laugh out loud pal. I also share your feelings on getting that shot in between all the people traffic. Take 1, take 2, take 3 springs to mind. Nice one fella.

@@patrickdickinson6492 I walked across the open moorland in virgin snow a few years ago in Dec and sat on the top of Grindslow Knoll and then realised I had half an hours day light having spent too long admiring the views and my car was miles away on the other side of Snake pass. I ended up walking down to Edale thinking I'd find a place for the night only to be kindly offered a lift back by a family I met on the way down. I knew I had a nice bottle of wine in the boot of my car so I gave it to em as a thank you.

Pat, just discovered your channel on youtube. As someone who also built a pub shed at the bottom of my garden three years ago, up popped your video in your wonderful pub. Well, i was hooked. As someone who also enjoys real ale, walking, camping and photography your channel is a tonic. I have camped with the family ever since the kids were babies but now they've got a bit older it could be a chance to re-discover wild camping. In these uncertain and difficult times your channel is a real morale boost and should be essential viewing, especially for people unable to venture out at the moment. Keep 'em coming Pat, although i've got many more to catch up on.

Yes! A feature-length video from Pat in my notifications!. Really enjoyed this one, have you upped the production skills? Seemed very well edited and filmed sir. Great shots and lovely subtle humour, Dickinson Airways had me smiling, very informative too with all the names of the places upon Kinder. What a privilege to have the whole place to yourself as well, we have the High Weald AONB, South Downs National Park and the Hastings Country Park down here on the South East coast but nothing quite of the scale of the Peak District so it's a pleasure to join you on your adventures via youtube. Thank you Pat. I like the map read and the aerial overview. It has provided me with a better sense of the shape of Kinder Scout. When I hike, study the maps, photograph and try to keep track of the scale of the terrain, I get an enhanced appreciation of these great natural sculptures through which we adventure. You have taught me a great deal about your region and just like the regions I explore myself, I am realizing just how much more there remains to experience. I liked the way you caught your drone out of mid air, like it is your pet flying insect, returning after a task well done. Such a handy and faithful machine would be easy to anthropomorphize.

Hello and nice to hear from you, the map clearly shows the plateau, and the drone fills in the real features of the land, all thanks to that little drone, thanks Pat

You captured the bleakness and remoteness brilliantly with your drone and camp footage. Great location. On a misty, murky, rainy day would probably be a challenge. Probably not for a man with your experience and skills, Patrick!

A fantastic video Pat, as others have said, very well done and with a touch of good humour. 45 minutes may seem a long time but your videos fly by, loved every minute. I was camping myself last weekend, first time in 10 years - thank you so much for the motivation.

Thank you Pat for another fantastic video. The scenery looks stunning. I was involved in a car crash several years ago which has put pay to my walking expeditions, I used to visit the Lake District and Dartmoor. I'm envious yet also very grateful to you for allowing me to 'visit' the great outdoors, albeit from my living room. Keep them coming Pat.

Hi Patrick, Although I’m subscribed to your channel, the automatic notification system failed to flag up your latest video, which I must add, was packed with lots of excellent content my friend. My oldest memories of ascending Kinder Scout would be around 1973 - I would have been aged 18 for for virtually all of that year. Those days, I’d ride over to Edale on my Royal Enfield 250, climb up onto Kinder Scout with my Pye multi-short wave band radio, rig up a ‘throw-out’ antenna, and listen on the amateur bands until the 1.5 volt low tension batter barely supplied power to the tube heaters - which was around two hours ...on a good day LOL. During summer months I’d take sandwiches, flask of coffee, and spare 90volt (I’d hook up ten PP3, 9 volt batteries in series), and 1.5 volt batteries so I could stay up there listening on the short wave bands a few hours longer. As I’ve mentioned, wild camping definitely appeals to me. I can’t think of a better method for regenerating one’s self out in the open for up to twenty-four hours in solitude, miles away from the hustle and bustle of everyday living in the city. I see it as being close to Heaven! My first question is, how does one determine a suitable spot to pitch a tent? What should one being looking out for? What are the basics? My second question for this occasion could be regarded as somewhat delicate, and/or personal - possibly it would be best addressed in person but here goes: how does one take care of their ablutions? Hoping to hear from you soon my friend, Phil.
@patrickdickinson6492

Hi Phil, I bet it was a lot quieter in Edale in those days, must of been a nice ride on your 250. Impressed with the batteries and 90 volts with them in series, must of cost a fortune in batteries. A nice level pitch, sheltered and preferably with a nice view is what I look for, as for the ablutions, then a trowel is required, your toilet paper comes home with you, and main thing leave no trace of you being there, hope your keeping well Phil, all the best Pat

The first time I did the round of Kinder I went up Ringing Roger, and down Grindsbrook, I was surprised how much of a scramble it was. That was in 1984. It was a dry summer so the paths were nice. Glad to see you and your family avoided the covid !

Another enjoyable video Patrick, thank you. You are of course correct with all the effort and extra walking that goes into the filming ( like the end shot where you walk off, having to leg it back & pack up the tripod & camera!). Nice review of the Scotch too - def another one to try there. Thank you again & stay safe.
