@@patrickdickinson6492 I walked across the open moorland in virgin snow a few years ago in Dec and sat on the top of Grindslow Knoll and then realised I had half an hours day light having spent too long admiring the views and my car was miles away on the other side of Snake pass. I ended up walking down to Edale thinking I'd find a place for the night only to be kindly offered a lift back by a family I met on the way down. I knew I had a nice bottle of wine in the boot of my car so I gave it to em as a thank you.

Pat, just discovered your channel on youtube. As someone who also built a pub shed at the bottom of my garden three years ago, up popped your video in your wonderful pub. Well, i was hooked. As someone who also enjoys real ale, walking, camping and photography your channel is a tonic. I have camped with the family ever since the kids were babies but now they've got a bit older it could be a chance to re-discover wild camping. In these uncertain and difficult times your channel is a real morale boost and should be essential viewing, especially for people unable to venture out at the moment. Keep 'em coming Pat, although i've got many more to catch up on.

Hi Pat great to see you up kinder again & the drone (dickinson airways) gave a great view of the plateau which you wouldn't get to see otherwise & it's great to see so much of the area we're familiar with from above..it gives a great perspective of just how vast but such a beautiful place it is.iv'e done quite a few camps up at crowden head now it's a great spot,i usually use the same spot where the bigger area of rocks are several hundred yards further north of the crowden summit marker.there's lots of nice flat spots round there among the many rocks..you looked like you were well on your'e way testing all that whisky lol & i bet you slept well. if your'e looking for a better filter pat if you've seen my latest vids im now using the katadyn befree it's a game changer for filtering for me.you'd still be able to use your'e bag to carry water in then just filter at camp as you normally do,but it can also be used as a sports type bottle with it having the sports cap on it & you can drink straight from the filter on the go too.great stuff pat as always & im looking forward to winter now as im sure you are too.tfs.Andy.

When I hike, study the maps, photograph and try to keep track of the scale of the terrain, I get an enhanced appreciation of these great natural sculptures through which we adventure. You have taught me a great deal about your region and just like the regions I explore myself, I am realizing just how much more there remains to experience. I liked the way you caught your drone out of mid air, like it is your pet flying insect, returning after a task well done. Such a handy and faithful machine would be easy to anthropomorphize.

Pat. Many thanks for the drone footage as it adds a completely different perspective to Kinder. Way back in 1964 ish when I was serving an apprenticeship at English Steel Corp's River Don works now Sheffield Forge Masters I had the chance to spend a week at Hollowford Outward Bound based I think in the Hope valley ( someone correct me if I have got the name or location wrong) There was snow on the ground and the day we went up on Kinder visibility was down to a few yards so we had to use a compass to navigate with. After all these years I cant remember which route we took up onto the plateau but I do remember seeing the falls at some stage which were frozen solid. As the ground was frozen solid it did make crossing the boggy ground very easy. I dont remember feeling threatened by the weather conditions or that we were in any sort of danger but as you well know hikers have died up there. Cheers.

Another enjoyable video Patrick, thank you. You are of course correct with all the effort and extra walking that goes into the filming ( like the end shot where you walk off, having to leg it back & pack up the tripod & camera!). Nice review of the Scotch too - def another one to try there. Thank you again & stay safe.

That's an awesome camp up there Pat. I did cut across the plateau once in foul weather to cut the circular ridge walk short and get down fast. The heather and grass up here is still quite springy and makes a good additional mattress layer underneath your groundsheet and camping mat. Its quite a contrast to the circular route that is erroded in a lot of places. As you say the plateau is featureless and that is probably what keeps most walkers of it as there are no obvious places to take compass bearings in low visibility which is common in this region.

The central areas suit me, no people, a great advantage, but in fact all areas of Kinder are beautiful, thanks Pat

Hi Patrick, Although I’m subscribed to your channel, the automatic notification system failed to flag up your latest video, which I must add, was packed with lots of excellent content my friend. My oldest memories of ascending Kinder Scout would be around 1973 - I would have been aged 18 for for virtually all of that year. Those days, I’d ride over to Edale on my Royal Enfield 250, climb up onto Kinder Scout with my Pye multi-short wave band radio, rig up a ‘throw-out’ antenna, and listen on the amateur bands until the 1.5 volt low tension batter barely supplied power to the tube heaters - which was around two hours ...on a good day LOL. During summer months I’d take sandwiches, flask of coffee, and spare 90volt (I’d hook up ten PP3, 9 volt batteries in series), and 1.5 volt batteries so I could stay up there listening on the short wave bands a few hours longer. As I’ve mentioned, wild camping definitely appeals to me. I can’t think of a better method for regenerating one’s self out in the open for up to twenty-four hours in solitude, miles away from the hustle and bustle of everyday living in the city. I see it as being close to Heaven! My first question is, how does one determine a suitable spot to pitch a tent? What should one being looking out for? What are the basics? My second question for this occasion could be regarded as somewhat delicate, and/or personal - possibly it would be best addressed in person but here goes: how does one take care of their ablutions? Hoping to hear from you soon my friend, Phil.
@patrickdickinson64924 жыл бұрын
Hi Phil, I bet it was a lot quieter in Edale in those days, must of been a nice ride on your 250. Impressed with the batteries and 90 volts with them in series, must of cost a fortune in batteries. A nice level pitch, sheltered and preferably with a nice view is what I look for, as for the ablutions, then a trowel is required, your toilet paper comes home with you, and main thing leave no trace of you being there, hope your keeping well Phil, all the best Pat

Hi Patrick. I loved this wild camp video from you and it's another classic! Very nice area and gives you feeling of being alone in world. Being Scottish I must say whisky isn't something I drink as I find it too strong as I've tried it. I tried whisky with IRN BRU Scottish juice drink and it's ok as the taste isn't as strong. Drinking it straight I can't do and alot of Scottish peaple don't like whisky. I love your flight with your airline company Dickinsons airways and it's a lovely pleasant flight and I hope you do more in future!!! Thank you for the flight! I love watching your wild camping videos!!!!

Hi Kinder Scout is one of the highest and wildest places for people like myself from Sheffield, and the other side from Manchester. Whisky is such a interesting and varied drink, nice and lightweight for taking on a wild camp, all the best Pat

Beautiful flight Captain! Astonishingly stable as usual, with magnificent views. Thank you for taking us with you. Some of the water requirement you commented on may be due to the dehydrating effect of the whiskeys! I tried one of your beer recommendations. The "citrus" beer has my vote as the most pleasing and original. Best wishes.

Hi Andrew, be that Oakham Citra, beautiful beer, and glad you enjoyed the flight, thanks Pat

Thank you Pat for another fantastic video. The scenery looks stunning. I was involved in a car crash several years ago which has put pay to my walking expeditions, I used to visit the Lake District and Dartmoor. I'm envious yet also very grateful to you for allowing me to 'visit' the great outdoors, albeit from my living room. Keep them coming Pat.
