Amazing figure. I was given a broken Submarauder inner robot by a friend so i repaired, restored and reprolabelled him back to his former glory! the shield fits on the inner robot's back too for a little extra bulk. Great review :)

Always great to see you do these older figures. I didn't have any of the Pretenders as a kid, that I can recall. By the time they came around I was about 13. Who know what teenage me was getting into at that point.

Nice job reviewing this figure PP. Submaurader's shell is definitely his strongest point. I only have one Pretender from Super God Masterforce and that's Lander. Found him out thrifting one day. If I could only have one though, I think I would probably grab Skullgrin since I tend to lean towards the "monster" shells as having the better outward appearance. Thanks for sharing! Cheers, Joe

I love the Monster Shells they're all so unique. That's the reason I went for the Cons instead of the Autobots.

Yeah, Skullgrin is one I definitely enjoyed, especially in the Marvel comics... And honestly, I kind of liked his Classics/G3 repaint/retooled halftrack toy better than the Darkmount aka Straxus version of the mold.

The three original Decepticon Pretenders were the initial villains in Masterforce, with the Seacons as their henchmen. As newer and badder Decepticons were introduced in the series, however, the three Pretenders were relegated to supporting rolls and comic relief. The Decepticon Power Masters took center stage as the villains.

I only had two Pretenders when i was young, it was Cloudburst and this guy. And man did i love Submarauder!! To me still the best one around. Also happy they gave these guys a chance in PotP. Made it way more affordable to own the trio of Gilmer, Blood, and Dauros (Submarauder, Bomburst, and Skullgrin) who have such an epic side shot in the Japanese cartoon. I'm baffled every time i hear you say you haven't seen those?! Is there a specific reason why? I only got to see them a few years ago as i bought all 3 series as a boxset on ebay, english subbed. Loved watching them with my 8yr old son, and brought back that 80's saturday morning feeling :D

I would say because I tried watching Headmasters when it came out and just couldn't get into it. But many of you have said to check out Masterforce so I'll give it a shot.

Poor Submarauder got so little love in the Marvel comics, though considering how the series was overflowing with characters (so much that we had to get the Underbase Saga), it's understandable why he would be neglected.

The Decepticon pretenders had the advantage of having far more imagination put into the designs for their shells. These things are so shit but I love them.

I love the Decepticon Pretenders, every one of them was a unique and imaginative creature. The Autobot shells were lazy.
