The kn filter is keeping the dirt out, I don’t see any issues.

My issue with K&N air filters is that if you put too much oil on the filter, the oil stars to get sucked into the air intake and will cover the MAF sensor with oil, causing it to collect dirt. On some cars this will cause MAF sensor issues. Just for that very reason I stick with stock filters.

Absolutely! The MAF on the i8 is literally right next to the filter.

Hello Pat. I can't agree with you. I drive a VW Polo, and he puts the intake inlet under the hood. Practically high. It's not so much a matter of the filter as it is a matter of the height of the suction opening.

I agree. The suction opening on the i8 is next to the road.

Hi Pat. I 8 a Hot Dog for National Hot Dog Day, but I didn't know what mustard to use. Should I have used Grey Poupon or Gulden's? Always love this Cook'n Channel of yours. Why? Because you're always cook'n up something different, interesting AND absolutely delicious! Hope in the future that you will recommend which buns go best with the Dogs? Also, how about telling us how we should option out our Dogs. Mustard, Ketchup, Onions (raw or cooked), Relish, Cheese, Pickles? Or just go for it and get'em loaded with all of the aforementioned? Thanks again and Happy Cooking!

HAHA, Peter, that made my morning. My curious mind is always searching for more information and when I repeat myself about 5 times online, I usually turn it into a video. That way I can just copy/paste the KZbin link and save my fingers from typing. 🤣 But, regarding Hot Dogs, all condiments are Pat's Garage approved. However, grilled onions is recommended. Just don't ask me 5 times in order to force me to make a video on it. 😂 Save the wave!

Thank you for your endorsement of all the listed condiments, especially noting/recommending grilled onions. I will do my best to limit all future requests to less than 4 times. For now though, staying on the topic of filtration, maybe you'll recommend which stove-top filters you'd recommend. I do have a problem setting off my home smoke alarms at times which I think is a result of poor filtration. Best Regards, Smokey in Sussex

@@petercarey6883 Dear Smokey in Sussex. Your smoke alarm situation is one that I'm very familiar with. The best bet is to disconnect them while cooking and reconnect them afterward. This saves a bunch of money. Another money saving tip: Don't forget to replace the 9v battery every time we switch the clocks. I usually keep one 9v battery for Spring changes and one 9v battery for Fall. Each battery gets a 6 month break to rest and recharge. Works great and saves me a ton of money.

@@PatsGarageOnline Dam I 8 Pat! You're good! All excellent advice! Disconnecting Smoke Alarms while cooking. Geeze Louise, why didn't I think of that!? Don't answer that! 😊 That way I'd save on my electric bill because I wouldn't have to hook up all my box fans to air the place out!

Hi Pat. Normally I think you are doing a great and thorough job of your videos, however this video was not one of them. You claim the OEM filter prevents big particles from getting stuck between the sections of the filter whereas the KN filter gets them to stick there due to the oil. The oil is a part of the function of the kn filter and you started showing an OEM filter being more dirty than the KN filter. I know you modified the intake which reduces the dirty collection. I would like to see how the em filter looks like after same usage. I think you jumped the conclusion and at the same time states the KN filter (one of the biggest manufacturers of after market filters) is not filtering good.

I agree that my video was not a real good comparison. What I should have done with this video is not try to compare the K&N Filter to the OEM Filter, but point back to the Project Farm data so people could make the decision based on that. I hope you watch his video because it was quite alarming. I thought it was prudent to also share this information with i8 owners, since our intakes are close to the ground. My fears kicked in when I saw Project Farm's video where he detected the number of particles that passed through that K&N Filter was extreme, almost resembling no filter there at all. I decided to swap back to OEM based on that video and won't go back to the K&N. I just could have done a better job explaining this to my subscribers. Thanks for the feedback.
