Okay...so in Greek Mythology the Hydra is never given a definitive number of heads...just "many". But it has only 1 TRUE head, the immortal head. Other heads would split into 2 when cut off (which seems odd because if you just cut off enough heads the thing would just be a writhing mass of heads growing from stumps attached to other heads, right?) but if the immortal head was all that remained (defined as the "middle head") and was cut off the creature died. Hercules used a cheat and had his cousin cauterize each severed head to prevent it from growing into 2.

I love how in Dragon's Dogma, the "cauterize the neck stumps to prevent the heads growing back" tactic is a legitimate thing you can do when fighting hydra's.

The way the last AGDQ speedrun manipulates Luis in the cabin (by shooting him) to make the enemies spawn faster was really interesting. It's where I learned you can blow up that boulder in the mines with a rocket launcher too.

Honestly 4E had some cool ideas and a bunch of stuff I liked. Hell I know some DMs who grab stuff from it to give to people as abilities in 5E games. Now while I'm a GM that likes to follow the books but deviate I also get where Pat is coming from and sometimes following the rules to the letter doesn't stifle your creativity as much as you'd think it would. The best things are created when you have limitations to work under I find.

You can beat Mendez without firing a single shot from a gun. Toss two incendiary grenades at him, this will cause him to split and enter his 2nd phase. Then throw a flash grenade to knock him to the ground. Two more incendiary grenades and he's done.

So for DMing as pat talks about in the first part I give my best piece of advice; DMing is about mixing that episode of Futurama where Bender meets God ("If you're doing things right they'll wonder if you did anything at all") and making the players feel like they're badasses that just fucked up your whole campaign......but also did something they shouldn't have. They kill the dragon that wasn't all that strong but you didn't expect them to fight? Act like it was something they were supposed to run from but just curb stomped because they're *SO STRONG*.....and then a freak storm rolls in and they need to find shelter as the immediate area seems to undergo a weather apocalypse for a bit. They'll feel like awesome heroes, but also that they fucked something up and need to fix it. Time to go ask the Elves about what the scrolls say about crazy weather and dragons that ties back into the plot you already had planned out.

I think Terranigma's is cool in concept, your inventory is a little pocket dimension inside a box that you hop into and walk around amongst your items. In execution it gets kinda tiring having to run through multiple screens to get to your equipment and magic and stuff.

@@gaminggoddess85 RE4 feels like it has the best of both worlds, itesm take up a physical space like in old survival horro games, but at the same time its satisfying, fun and stay practicle and convinient the entire time, you never have to open the atache case for more than 5 seconds most times unless you organising it so tension in fights is never lost either. IO put alot of thought into it when i say i think its the best

The thing is that RE4 still holds up today, whereas the older games don't. Now, I know some boomer will object to that, but as someone who didn't grow up with tank controls I can tell you that they're fucking awful to try and learn. RE4's gameplay is, at its core, still the same as modern third-person RE games and doesn't really need refining. The graphics have also held up very well with up-rezzing so a visual remaster isn't really important either imo.

Jeez, watching the part where Pat was in the Water Room just makes me not understand how he and the other commenter in the Chat before could even state Ashley is an Escort Character done right. Or that she can take any hits, she only can if you waste Yellows on her instead of yourself. Otherwise she dies instantly in most cases. That room just shows how annoying she actually is to deal with, no one should think she's a good anything after that. If anything Escorts in Dragon's Dogma were better then her since you could pick them up to keep them safe and throw them out of danger. Plus you could just use a mage to heal them if necessary or use the Magnanimous Cloak since health items weren't rare.

Local Man Organizes Attaché Case in the Worst Way Possible Edit: here is how my mind goblins make me organize the attaché case. Guns are always on the left side. Specific Gun Order: (In XL Case with all weapons) Row 1: Red 9, Striker, Killer 7 Row 2: Rifle (Semi-Auto) Space below rifle reserved for ammo or Rocket Launcher. Healing items are always in the top right corner. (exemption: Large Bass) Grenades always go on the bottom right. Sell every incendiary grenade. NEVER BUY THE TMP NEVER BUY THE MINE THROWER Rifle scope and Red 9 stock always go next to each other to make most efficient use of space. Ammo fits in wherever there are gaps.
