The answer to Ash's age is probably one of 3 things 1:He is not still 10 but the anime doesn't really care to bother with bringing up his age. 2:He is not still 10 but the time passed in the anime is significantly less than in real life, meaning he is probably a teenager or somewhere close. Or 3:status quo is king and they think the kid show needs a kid protagonist and don't expect it to be questioned.

He aged from 10 in Gen 1 to 13 in Gen 4, then in Season 5 there was a soft reboot, so from this point on the anime followed an alternate universe Ash who was 10 and once again continued to age normalle until the next soft reboot in Gen 7

I have a theory about Lance's underleveled Dragonites. In the Alola region, Dragonite can be found in Poni Gauntlet occasionally when a Dratini calls for help. These Dragonite can be as low as level 10. So, after losing to Red, Lance went to Alola, got three Dratini to each call a low level Dragonite, caught them, and got his champion status back by the events of GSC.

I've always thought the underleveled evolved pokemon in the games could be explained as an aptitude thing. The player characters are basically all prodigy trainers so the levels our pokemon evolve at are normal to us but way early compared to most other trainers' ability. Likewise we'll rarely see an NPC with an early evo because they happen to resonate better with that species or individual Pokemon for once.

I think the “how do Pokémon fit in pokeballs” question was solved. IICR, In legends arceus, the professor says how Pokémon have the unique ability to shrink to a small size, and that pokeballs were a recent invention being able to hold Pokémon in this smaller state. Also hence the name of Pokémon, a shortened name of the phrase pocket monster Then again, I might be remembering things wrong

The Lance’s Dragonites/Lake of Rage theory is actually pretty cool, and I’d be down to support it if there was more behind it. Like Pat said, if your Pokémon could be forced to evolved too, but there’s a draw back to it, that would be cool.

Actually, the theory about the whole Rare Candy bit between Pokemon Go and the base games were that if you look how you level up Pokemon in Go. You capture a bunch of the same Pokemon and transfer them to the professor to get candies to make your other Pokemon stronger. The theory was that you were literally sending off your weaker extra mons to have them turned into candy in order to make your other mons stronger. And that in early times, that was a more common practice. But in later times, it was seen as rather horrid to be grinding Pokemon up into candies to make your other Pokemon stronger. Since the process became pretty much outlawed, it's why they became more commonly known as "Rare Candies" in the main line games and why they were extremely rare/expensive in the early games (until they brought back the whole EXP candies thing back in the Sword/Shield games)

Unless the final evolution is pretty or I at least kind of like it (Primarina (although I never actually choose Poplio because I'm sorry but I can't not choose a kitten...I do trade one to myself though), and Meganium (yes I choose Chikorita fight me...otherwise I'd choose Cyndaquil and never evolve it...) or if I just don't have any real preference/only get the Pokemon for completion.
