17:32 So in the US manga the rival's name is Blue and the girl is Green. But in Japan the rival's name is Green and the girl is Blue. To make it even more confusing despite being named after the game's subtitle each of the characters's starters are different to their boxarts. For example the protagonist Red despite being named after Pokemon Red has a Venusaur. The rival has a Charizard and the girl has a flying Blastoise

Yeah, this is because of the original Japanese release being Red and Green so the player and rival were named for that and then Blue was released as an enhanced version that fixed various issues from the initial games so when they made the international release they used their Blue version as the basis and because of that they decided to make it Red and Blue here because… well… they made it from Blue. Because of this Green became Blue for us. When they introduced the girl, since the original games and their corresponding characters were Red and Green already, that meant she’d correspond to Blue version and thus be named for it. But based on that same logic, over here the remaining color for her was Green instead so our version of her got that name. I’m sure you know this given your comment, I’m just adding extra context for others that may not.

It gets more confusing because of the Fire Red Leaf Green (FRLG) redesign for her. In Pokémon Masters they give the female protagonist the name Leaf, and I believe she was also referred to as such in the source for FRLG. Though in the manga “Leaf” and Green are just the same characters, it’s just Green but older and in a different outfit. Same goes for Lyra (the female protagonist of Heart Gold Soul Silver) and Crystal (the female protagonist from Gen 2) being the same character in the manga, Crystal but older and in a different outfit. Green also shows up in the Let’s Go games with a design more akin to her original though slightly modified, though Let’s Go is weird in general because both Red and Blue (Male rival) also show up at random points. Edit: Also the color/eyes thing doesn’t hold up because like 99.9% of the manga is printed in black and white. Only the covers are ever in color

​@KestrelDC Also the reason why pokemon blue version was called pokemon blue version instead of going with green version like in japan (i.e. Japan has red and green vs the red and blue) was (supposedly) because Japan wanted to pander to the Americans by using blue instead of green...because the American flag has _red_ white _and blue_ so they figured that by marketing it as one of the other colors of the American flag more Americans would buy it. As for why they went with leaf green after that? Well...I guess bubble blue just wasn't as "cool" sounding lol.

According to the lore, it doesn't really shapeshift, it's dawn just has the ability to refract light in a way to camoflauge it as something else. But in the movie it still interacts with the world as if it's shaped like a human.... soooo it's just poorly thought out shapeshifting lol. And Latias kisses Ash in the movie which I always thought was strange.

@sykora9526 it's probably my favorite unexplained events in all of Pokémon. We just have these two very specific legendary Pokémon, Apparently, they have the ability to refract light in order to shapeshift into physical humans, and only one of them is ever seen doing this with no full explanation as to why 😂 she just shows up, and she's not even the one telling them she's Latias, everyone who's ever found out has just figured it out on their own or was actively being kissed by said shape-shifting Latias before she books it with, once again, no explanation 😂 that movie was more of an art piece than a storyline, but I still absolutely adore it despite the confusion lol

Technically we did get human form Latios... just not in the dub. The beginning of Heroes had a story book introduction that showed off the history of the town (which is different from the dub) which included a little boy and girl who turned out to be latios and latias.

As a huge Xenoblade fan I can confirm there is no dragon girl that transforms. In Xenoblade 2 pyra and mythra transform into each other because they’re the same person just 2 personalities along with their final form. And Azurda aka gramps is a dragon who transforms into his younger form after being gravely injured. Also Nia transforms from her Gormotti form to her blade form

Also, not sure whether it was clear in the meme about manga characters and eye color, but the mix-up between Blue and Green has to do with the original game versions being Red and Green in Japan, vs Red and Blue internationally. So the original Japanese protagonist and rival were named Red and Green, with Blue being the name of the third character because Blue was the "third version" in Japan. Whereas internationally, Red and Blue are the rivals, so Green became the third character in the manga (who became Leaf in the games when FRLG were released).

I thiiiink it’s been implied at times that the Pokemon universe does at least primarily use fake meat or maybe lab grown meat technology is much more advanced in their world but I don’t think it’s ever been made explicit. Apart from that, though, there are the odd examples of people at least imagining eating Pokemon, especially in the anime. Like they’ve imagined Magikarp filleted at least a few times and there’s the whole Slowpoke tail thing but then that’s just a tail so doesn’t require killing the Pokemon and it’s been said it grows back (though that does raise the question just what Team Rocket was doing that made their tail harvesting qualify as poaching if the harvesting isn’t a big deal). The franchise is very inconsistent on whether regular animals exist or not so I guess if they do then people could just eat those. It also tends to be pretty vague about food in general like the various times in SwSh when the characters would talk about having meals and it would fade to black and just skip to after the meals lmfao. And Lapras was hunted to being endangered. Speaking of: since we know Pokemon do die and do kill and prey on each other… what makes them actually die as opposed to just faint? Is it just that the battle stuff is a special phenomenon that doesn’t actually harm them because Infinity Energy or something (almost like a simulator of sorts but irl for them) but regular violence does actually harm them? I guess the Dex entries about predation DO generally describe it as being regular violence rather than moves like the descriptions of Pokemon like Gorebyss inserting their proboscis to suck out nutrients. Maybe that’s the difference. 🤷🏻

When in reality there bouncing in the air (as shown in pokemon heroes the movie). Latias is actualy fond of doing this so it can be around people without fear of being attacked or chased as it is one of few mythical pokemon that like being social. latios being the opposite and preffering to only turn invisible

the problem with veganism in pokemon is the plants are animals too. granted, id argue that plants irl are living things and deserve just as much respect as animals. but since i need to eat, i treat them the same and eat both. vegans are free to treat plants differently, im just not hypocritical like that.
