My brother's 2022 Hyundai Elantra N is an absolute blast on track. We're at Waterford Raceway in Michigan to do a shakedown of the car. It ran flawlessly and the Hyundai N division really impressed us.

Fantastic vid! Thanks so much for your efforts-- after the N rollout at Sonoma, I was so eager to have someone get some relative times bone-stock at their home track and confirm what sort of thermal capacities the car really has. It seems N is, indeed, for real and I look forward to seeing more of your experiences. The shooting and production are pretty damn slick and man oh man it is refreshing to have someone who is clearly both a hobbyist and an engineer in front of the camera. Cheers!! I am at 613 miles this morning on my Performance Blue 6-spd, curious to see your findings regarding the 2nd gear lockout---- thanks again!

Oh dude, I'd go to say it's straight up the best "dual duty" car that you can buy from the showroom floor for less than 40K that both is great on the street and set up well for the occasional track day. Like honestly, the thing felt great. Dynamically it's set up pretty perfect as-is, where as even dedicated sport cars have some things that should be tuned out (ND Miata is too soft, 86/BRZ is prone to understeer). Seriously, it's amazing

Thanks for taking time to gather and share your experiences with the Elantra. I love my BRZ but still have a fascination with this car. Does Hyundai make some crash bolts for some negative camber? I'm more curious about this car in SCCA DS for autocross than track, but this was still excellent footage.
@williamrori1274
@williamrori1274 2 жыл бұрын
Yep, there's whiteline camber bolts. We're actually aligning it right now, and it was -1.7 degrees stock camber and we were able to get -2.8 degrees with the $35 camber bolts. That's not enough for me, so we're going to slot the top strut hole, but that should be enough for the average HPDE/street user!
@aroundomaha
@aroundomaha 2 жыл бұрын
@@williamrori1274 Holy crap I get about 1.5 degrees *with* camber bolts, but these are Subaru OEM crash bolts and only in the top mounting hole. That much camber should make turn in pretty damn snappy. How is rotation? I thought about adding a larger front bar to keep the geometry of the front flatter and using rear toe out to get rotation. But on track that toe out could be a little hairy.

So interesting development on this... My build date is apart of a TSB for the clutch disk getting installed backwards from the factory. After the next track day I have an appointment for them to fix that TSB. But yeah, I think that was likely causing the clutch to "drag" a bit which would explain issues getting into gear.

Yep, so normally I'd agree 100%. However, in this case, I have to prep for time trials/time attack so I'm pretty rushed to get it to that point so I can test and tune from there. My favorite tire for split track and street use is the RT660. It's substantially quicker than something like the RS4, and yet is much better in the wet. It's also priced quite competitively!

So cooling was perfectly fine, Will at one point said he might have felt a little heat soak but we'll want to wait for warmer temps in the summer to be sure. @williamrori1274
@williamrori1274 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! So, the day was fairly cold (60 degrees F) but sunny. Regardless, water temp never went past 205 degrees F, where oil temp peaked at 250 degrees F. That to me is perfectly reasonable. I tracked my BRZ at 270-280 F oil temps for three years without issue, but that's at the point where the lack of oil lubrication might be an issue. From that though, we can say the radiator is a great size and design - no need to improve anything there. In the future, I may add a small A20 cooler but honestly 250F temps are nothing to worry about.

Awesome video, I have a tuned 6 speed M/T Elantra myself. I have to say though, you shift so hard.. Slamming it into gear, it was hard to watch. I knew it was going to lock out, then watching you attempt to jam it in gear during a lock out breaks my heart. I'm 35 years old and never owned an automatic car.. I've NEVER slammed a shifter around like that before, never at autocross and deff never on the streets... You can switch just as fast with a quick light slap of the shifter or even just 3 fingers flick it into gear. I know you're a small guy but still no need to be absolutely grabbing the shifter and just throwing it in gear like that.

Appreciate the insight, what series do you race in? The video doesn't do it justice, but yeah definitely not slamming it into gear. Do I shift fast? Yes. But there's not much force behind it.
