not many black belts (especially owners) would let themselves be submitted. Egos are way to big and i give Roy Dean so much respect in being humble. his students are lucky in having a great humble instructor.

I tell you what, I hope to be testing for my blue belt sometime in the future, but the journey I was just taken on in the last fifteen minutes was so emotional. The guy knew his stuff and you could tell as time went, his stamina wilted but his desire never did! What a great video, and thank you so much for sharing!

Sounds like he was having one of those days where he didn't have all of his energy. You certainly can't control how your body will be everyday. And even though he was tired as all get out he wasn't giving up. And he pushed himself.

We all have those days where you feel spent before you even step on the mat.

+Jujutsuheiho Fighting one guy is enough but 5 in a row including a black belt is really tough.

I thought he showed a lot of technical ability during that phase of the testing. It seemed to me he relied less on that while rolling with the smaller opponents, and used more strength to sweep or escape. While rolling with the larger and higher belts it became more difficult and he was getting tapped more frequently. This is expected, of course. My point is that when you're tank gets empty all you have is technique, so always rely on that first and foremost. The test process looked difficult and extensive, so congratulations to you and your professor. You make the art a beautiful thing.

I am always amazed at how clinical Roy's guys make BJJ drilling look. I wish I could make some of my students be as dedicated to perfecting technique as these guys. Whenever I teach a move dudes are sitting about chatting after 5 reps and doing completely different moves from the one shown. Or just doing the move in some way I never even demonstrated. These guys are all very impressive.

That last purple belt he rolled with was super tough, really liked his style.

Awesome upload... I was laughing throughout the whole video because you were sooooo tired. Great job Heatherman and you showed heart the entire time even though we could all see how tired you were. Your determination and character are seen here and even though I don't know you, I was proud of you.

Paul looks pretty good here. I imagine he's 45 or older? Looks like he made the grade.
