I introduced the Beatles to my daughter when she was just an infant. I sang her "Golden Slumbers" every night before I put her down. Now she is 33 and a bonafide Beatles' fan. She has seen Paul in concert three times. Parents, keep perpetuating the music so that after Paul and Ringo pass, the sounds of the Beatles will never die.

The Kinks were pretty damn close, and the The Who too. The Who influenced a bunch of well known bands like Pink Floyd, Pearl Jam, Aerosmith, ACDC, Rush, Green Day, Oasis, and so many more. "You Never Give Me Your Money" is one of my favourite Beatles songs. Its melody is poignantly beautiful and it moves you emotionally. It's hard to separate this from "Golden Slumbers" and "Because" as being the best tracks from "Abbey Road". Though I concede that picking a favourite song from the Beatles catalogue is a near impossible task, because their quality was so outstandingly consistent. The "Fab Four" are incomparable. They were unique. A one off. We will never experience anything like them again. They changed the world, not only in music, but the flow-on effects on other areas of society too.

"A Day In The Life" is my fave Beatles song, BUT "Abbey Road" is my fave album. I think they should have saved these 3 for their last album, even tho sadly "Let It Be" was all recorded separately...not as a quartet. 61 years later & the Beatles are STILL #1 in ALL music history. Paul has a game face. Humble isn't in his makeup, you just have to watch the Get Back series. It's great, but it shows Paul's ego very well. One of the best people on the planet? Doubtful. He's reputedly a cheapskate and a capricious one at that, ask some of his former Wings bandmates. Gracious? He's documented being an intoxicated arsehole. To me, the question is: what does having the world hail you as a genius from the age of 22 or so, and at the same time, want a piece of you, do to you as a person? Linda was often very unhappy in that marriage. James, his son, has some serious emotional problems. As a songwriter, or at least a melodicist, he is probably without parallel in the 20th century. As a human being, well, let's just say sometimes meeting your 'hero' can be a disappointment. And as much as he'd like to put the breakup on John, it was Paul who nixed the plan for 4 songs each separately, 2 for Ringo, which was proposed about a week or so before John left.

I was born in 1953 and was the perfect age to grow up with the Beatles. I remember their early albums (in mono, no less!) selling for .99 cents at the A&P grocery store. Every 6 months, like clockwork, they'd release a new album or single that, incredibly, was better than their previous songs. "She Loves You," I Feel Fine, "Paperback Writer," "Help!" "A Day In the Life," They just seemed to get better and better with every passing year. Our minds were constantly being blown by these four "mop tops," who came out of nowhere and changed popular music forever. We just took it for granted that it would never end, or at least, I did. And then, when I turned 16, it suddenly ended. But, man, what a ride!!

The first album, the black one, called "Meet the Beatles" here, I hitchhiked to the nearest town that had a record shop and bought it. I was 13. One of the best pieces of rock music ever written. The Beatles were musicians nonpareil and they influenced almost every genre of music, from rock to jazz to pop to classical. Would have been so interesting to see what their collective collaborations would have brought in the 70s, especially with the added influence of George, who played a larger role in their music towards then end. And what a cast playing this masterpiece!

Yes they are an influential band and had influenced other pop and rock bands. But seriously mate, they never influenced jazz music and classical music those 2 are very different kind of music than what the beatles put out. You could say classical music influenced some of the beatles work because George Martin who is their producer was a classically trained pianist but the beatles did not influence jazz music or classical music. Saying they did is just isn't right.

Not sure why exactly, but seeing George Martin there conducting makes me emotional and just warms my heart. He was an absolute genius and deserves all the credit for The Beatles’ perfection that he receives (notwithstanding John’s ridiculous comments during a period when he was pissy at everyone and everything not named Yoko). My respect for Paul, which otherwise could not be higher, was increased even more by the respect he always gave George Martin. (Plus, if you see any old pictures or film of the band in the studio, George Martin was always impeccably dressed; the best, most timeless fashion sense IMO.)
