I happened to have been at the Dakota that day and at the exact moment, though I was inside the building. When I left it was exactly at the time the policeman was putting John in the squad car to go to Lenox Hill. I didn't know what had happened until about 30mins later. I cried all day and yes I was one of those crazy Beatles fans singing outside the Dakota all the rest of the week. RIP and thanks for all the love you need because after all, all You Need Is Love!

I had to think about your comment, but you are correct. John answered the question by wanting to be with the woman he loved, so it was very appropriate for Yoko to be there with the band. I always felt the women who belonged to Paul, Richard, and George were followers, where as Yoko was considering herself and equal with her companion.

From what I understand, they were already broken up long before Yoko entered the picture. I read something where John said that when their manager died, that was the beginning of the end. Also, George was on the Dick Cavette Show saying that there were many problems before John met Yoko. I guess people don't want to face the fact that they were just four guys who were wearing thin on each other and wanted to do their own thing.

No one can say that Paul and John had not gotten back together with the hug he just gave Yoko and Sean. That was a great line she had about the Beatles being bigger than.....buddha. I have nothing but respect for the woman John loved so dearly, too bad his other fans, who loved him so much, are so jealous of his love for her. John, George, Paul and Ringo will live as long as their are civilized people in this world.

@emokiller907 John was a tough guy. John had a temper. John was an angry young man. You may hate Yoko, but he loved her. He was lost without her. He called her "Mother." There must have been something very special about her for him to have been so totally devoted. She obviously helped him to be the man everyone loved. She helped him to feel contentment and peace. She was who he needed. If that's good enough for him, it should be good enough for us all.

Who would have thought any of those brash, witty, invincible boys would have ever showed any emotion in public like this? Then you get older and you experience death, and suddenly for the first time in your life you start tearing up at sad movies, you choke up at random moments in the day at passing thoughts. Start talking to the one you lost as if he's still there, watching you. That's when you realize sometimes it's okay to cry - as long as you pick yourself up quickly and get on with it.

''John Lennon, you made it. Tonight you're on the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame'' Knowing all the wishes John had for being a rock n' roll singer, all the facts i've read about him when he was young, and that they were all wishing so bad to be famous and recognized, and now listening to those lines said by Paul, is one of the most moving things I've seen in the world of music.

@Zeusdattilo It is true, John did "How Do You Sleep", but it was in response to Paul's "Dear Friend" and other songs that John felt were swipes at him. Dick Cavett asked him about "How Do You Sleep" and John explained at best friends fighting with each other. It is sad that they couldn't have written or recorded together again. Not as the Beatles, that was over, but simply as, along with George and Ringo, two of the most popular artists of all time.

@1dublj Hi !dublj. In my first Beatle Book they wrote that Paul's reply to "How do you sleep" was the "softer" "Let me roll it ". As I told I love them all. What I mean is that in 70's people thought that Paul was diplomat and selfish while John was a radical who fighted for peace, engaged and so on. I think that after many yeras we found that Paul more than others loved the band and his mates.Cinthya Lennon stated that he was the only one who went to her and Julian after John's left her.

Good point. I'm sure Paul wouldn't care if I didn't like his eulogy or not. It was, as you said, a complicated relationship. I don't even know how both managed to get along for as long as they did within the context of their insane poplularity. Mick Jagger of the Stones called it the "Golden Cage" where the stress of feeling trapped (sometimes forced) to do what you love to do became overwhelming. How could Paul give tribute in that context and have it come out perfect. He did his best. Peace.

@funnyjunkvmkman Yoko played a large part in the break-up of the beatles, though she wasn't solely responsible, it was a combination of that, Paul's new relationship with Linda and the forthcoming battle for management between Paul's father in law lee Eastman, and Alan Klein favored by John. Add to this George and Ringo's resentment and you've got yourself a formula for a Beatles break-up. It is likely that if Yoko hadn't been around they would have lasted a bit longer

@stigmajosh you can thank MAY PANG for that. Also, while he was with May Pang, he contacted his sister in England after YEARS without talking to her, he spent some good time with Julian and had his last live presentation with Elton John, and recorded his last really good album, Walls and Bridges. Then, Morticia sama got him back, pumped him full of drugs, got herself conveniently pregnant (after 13 years of misfiring) and he spent 5 years isolated in the Dakota. Such positive lady!

Despite their later differances which also involved lawyers. John and Paul had personal ties that went back for years and transcended the problems. Both were two sides of the same coin. Equally adept musically and lyrically they were at their best together. Brilliant apart at times but never consistently as good. What seperates The Beatles from others is that every album is so differant from the previous one until the final presentation bears no resemblance to anything they created before,

I don't have to love the wife of John Lennon because she was his wife. Me and the other fans are entitled to dislike her. Yoko hurt those closest to John in her mission to pursue him. She may have convinced him to sing of peace and love, but she did nothing to help him actually practice it. He emotionally abused Julian and Sean alike. She wasn't good for him. He stopped seeing his old friends and went into a hermit life when he was with her. He wasn't "lost" without her. He was "lost" with her.

Also, for those who say that Yoko and Linda were golddiggers, they both came from very well off families. Yoko decided to become an artist and her family thought that profession was beneath them. Her first husband was considered well off. I guess somewhere down the line she decided to live for herself instead of what her family expected from her.
