At the point where the bagpipes enter on this song, I am always moved to tears. Such a powerfully evocative timbre. Also, the fact that Paul was so very devoted to Linda. Reminds me of my wife, who died 26 years ago.

Our family is a wonderful mix of English, Scottish and South African. Every year we’d traditionally attended the Highland Gathering together and enjoyed watching the various bands and then the mass pipe band as a Grand Finale. Dad passed away 3 years after I immigrated to Australia. My brother was killed in a tragic accident in South Africa in 2016. The family arranged a lone piper to play Amazing Grace at his funeral. I then lost my mum on New Years Day 2022. I find myself wanting to watch and listen to more and more pipe music but when I do, my heart absolutely breaks into a million pieces. The memories are still so raw yet it’s all so bitter sweet.

My late husband would have loved this song since he was a Scotsman. He looked fabulous in his kilt! I looked up the Mull of Kintyre and found a video of going down to the lighthouse in a truck with a couple. It is long, steep and winding and I felt like I was in the vehicle with them. I was holding my chair when they went around the steep curves!

Perhaps the most evocative lyrics of this beautiful song for me are..."Sweep through the heather like deer in the glen Carry me back to the days I knew then Nights when we sang like a heavenly choir..." They take me back to times as a youth when I joined with friends singing around campfires or beach bonfires- our voices mingling with sparks and embers and all floated to heaven. Oh to go back in time!

I don't know where it comes from, I was not born in Scotland (Dutch born and bred), but every time I hear the pipes begin to play in this song, I get so emotional that my throat gets stuck and the tears begin to roll. Maybe it began with the tv series Kidnapped from 1978. Every time I read or hear something connected with Scotland, it feels like a personal connection. Never hope to lose it.

Some of the pipe band members also started work in 1977, straight out of Campbeltown Grammar school and into Campbeltown Shipyard at 15 or 16 years old (as did I). While they were making the record I remember asking some of them how it was even possible for a Wings song to have bagpipes on it. They could only describe it as strange but it seemed to work. These young lads got to appear on Top of the Pops, the Mike Yarwood show and some other TV programmes I think. It was an exiting time in Campbeltown. I think nearly everyone went down to the local Woolworths and bought a copy when it came out. I still have mine. I know that some of these lads are still involved in the pipe band now, 45 years later.

Впервые услышал эту песню в 1979 -80 году на польском радио, которое в те годы можно было поймать на коротких волнах. Спасибо, Пол!

Lovely early video. Great bag pipes. I walked away from my dad with a bag pipe band when I was a little girl. Just walked off the field with them.

My all-time favorite song from Wings. I hear the beginning and the entire song pops into my head and I see the original video recorded in Kintyre and I want to go there.

Jim Leggett introduced this song to me in 1983. I loved it then; I love it now. Both Paul McCartney and I have lost the Loves of Our Lives since then. This is a beautiful song of a farm on a piece of land jutting into the Sea. What memories he must have! Peace, Paul............take care. Linda and Judy are at Peace.
