I'm 81 and there isn't a day I don't miss it. Its really amazing no matter how much new music is coming out, that era will never die nor will the ones before it. What's really respectful to my generation is that our younger generation is listening to what I grew up with.

This song puts being addicted to drugs or alcohol being not the way to happiness. I know first hand what it takes to find true happiness when you get cleen and sober. By the grace of God I've been sober for 40 years one day at a time ❤

After years of relapse after relapse, at 70 y/o I am finally there, my man. And I'm celebrating!!! Ten -- almost said "only " ten -- days since I've toppled over to the other side of the fence. Always saw through the fence, but never had the balls/smarts to climb it , and after reaching the top, still lacking the honesty to do the part that validated the climb: Hopping over to the other side!!! I made it man and I'm feeling great! Anyone who thinks there's no higher power than us ought to have their head examined! Thanks for "listening" friend! Bennet Manzella, Rockaway Beach, NY 😂😅😅😅😊😅😅

"Kicks" was written by husband and wife songwriting team of Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil, who wrote the song to try to motivate Gerry Goffin (Carole King's husband and songwriting partner - "Up On the Roof', "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow") to get off the drugs that were affecting his career and his marriage. Mann and Weil offered the song to Eric Burton and the Animals, who refused; they then offered the song to the Raiders, who took it to the Top Ten in the US and No. 1 in Canada.....thank you for coming to my TED talk....

Mark Lindsay was a tremendous lead singer. One of the ways you can tell is that any time people have tried to cover Raiders tunes, they can never come close to the original. 'Him or Me' is a great example; a lot of versions of that song have been recorded, and no one can touch Mark Lindsay's vocal performance. Just superb.

I think it is absolutely insane that Paul Revere and the Raiders are not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. They are one of the greatest group that ever performed. They not only have great musical talent, they also have the greatest personalities. I could listen to them all day. I have listened to them since they started in the 60’s.
@philiphatfield5666
@philiphatfield5666 Жыл бұрын
They are not in the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame because they were a sham. Their records were great and Mark Lindsay was a fine singer, but that famous studio band, The Wrecking Crew, provided most of the instrumental music on those hit singles and LP's. I saw them on TV all the time, but they did not perform 'live' even once! They always 'pantomimed' to a recording and they did not even do that convincingly.. It seems that the so-called band members were more interested in wearing those pathetic costumes and posing for teen magazines like Tiger Beat, than practicing on their instruments in order to become good enough to put on a real concert. They simply have no credibility as a self contained band.

There was an oldies show sponsored by one of the radio stations in Portland Maine. It was at the newly built Cumberland County Civic Center!!!! Me and my girlfriend Debbie were assigned to work the event because we were on the City of Portland Medical Crisis Unit. The music was unsurpassed. I called my mother and my aunt Rose at the Maine Medical Center. Then I called my sister Eva and told her, then she picked up my sisters Nancy and Caroline. Everyone met me and Debbie at the Civic Center and hung out together. My friend Chin Li and his partner were there. My supervisor also made it. Everyone was feeling really good and enjoying everything going on in the civic center. People started noticing us and came up to talk to us. We just asked to stay incognito. There was music from the 1950's that got my mother and my aunt Rose in a dancing mood. All of us kept my mother and my aunt Rose cool . Later on the sponsors had a dance contest and a $5000.00 cash prize which excited everyone and everyone entered including us. The contest got started and there were many good dancers there. My mother teamed up with my supervisor and they danced to swing the mood and rocked the dance floor. Then my aunt Rose and I danced to You Can't Sit Down by the Dovells and "ELECTRIFIED" the dance floor!!!! Later on the team segment came and one of the families put on a great showing but got a little carried "AWAY"!!!! This song came on and all of our eyes LIT RIGHT UP!!!!! We all went in the middle of the dance floor and my mother said, " Let's show these people who we ARE"!!! Then I said, "DETONATE"!!! then all HELL BROKE LOOSE"!!! My mother, my aunt Rose, My sisters Eva, Nancy, Caroline, myself, and my girlfriend Debbie had people SCREAMING, "FREAKING OUT" and in "SHOCK"!! as we DESTROYED the dance floor!!!! We sent a "SHOCKWAVE" through the civic center!!! The Portland News media were taping us and said, " ONLY one group of people can dance like that and then said. " Ladies & Gentlemen The New England Roller Skating Champion "SUPERBIRDS"!!!! Then the WHOLE building "SHOOK"!!! from the people cheering & applauding us!!!! My supervisor hugged and kissed all of us, So did Chin Li and his partner!!!! The sponsors walked up and said to us, " Words cannot describe the SHOW you people just put on"!!!! We were handed a check for$5000.00 and started to cry from the show of LOVE we were getting from everyone there. When the show was over, me and Debbie went back to our station and my supervisor and everyone was hugging and kissing us in tears when the even was on TV. My supervisor said to us, " You two are BEYOND SPECIAL"!!!

The Raiders were a part of the excitement and amazing talent in the Rock and Roll world of the day. They shared ideas and helped lead us to where we are.

What a fantastic classic song from the 60's. The guitar during the chorus reminds me of the Dave Clark Five's "Glad All Over

I saw them several times at the Big Bam Shows in Montgomery, AL back in the late sixties. Those days will never be duplicated.
