@JohnEglick,. A movie line. That's okay. You and I were there when the music was made! They would probably ask us, " You mean soft drinks came in a glass bottle? How did you call someone from a "payphone????" You were listening to music on a transistor radio? "How wierd." You played outside with other kids your age.". You get the idea John. They read about it, we lived through it. The sixties!

Summer 1973. This song comes on my local AM radio station. "Whah?!!" It was so cool, but I missed the DJ stating who it was and what the title was. It sounded so fresh, I thought it was a new song that year. I was convinced it was the Beach Boys doing background harmonies. Kept waiting to hear it again, but never did. Took me over three decades and the onset of the internet to finally discover that it was Paul Revere from the 60's. Awesome song.

Nothing "underrated" about Lindsay. He was recognized as one of the great rock vocalists, deservingly so. Think of other greats, like the guy from Question Mark and the Mysterions and the guy from The Flaming Groovies and the guy from Beau Brummels, etc. They are underrated and forgotten. Hell, I can't even think of their names right now. Not Lindsay. He got his due and still deserves his due.

@Dave Coker, It truly was a different time. We had our troubles. Being with friends and hanging out and just enjoying the time together. Sometimes it was a party. Other times it was daydreaming in class or study hall, watching the girls with long hair, minus tattoos. Sometimes just walking around with friends and talking, ( there's a lost concept) enjoying the day because a lot of time we had no money. Too young for a real job, maybe lawn mowing or bailing hay for a farmer. It was a good time to be young. Take care.

How come Paul Revere and The Raiders weren't one of the biggest bands of the 60's? Their stuff is great.
@glawnow1959
@glawnow1959 4 жыл бұрын
Paul Revere and the Raiders were big in the 60s; they hosted the daily afternoon show "Where the Action Is", and their streak of hits in 1965-1967 are just fantastic. When Columbia Records decided to test raising the price of an album by $1 in late '67, their greatest hits album was one of the four test albums. But there was a split in the band by the summer of '67 between the faction led by Paul that loved the costumes and goofy synchronized dance steps and comedy routines: the frat house band kind of stuff, and the faction led by Mark which wanted to get serious and make albums for the FM market that was emerging, like the Beatles and Dylan and the Jefferson Airplane and the Doors. Mark didn't win, and even though he stayed with the band, others left, and it was never quite the same after the split.

I put this song among the greatest R&R hits of all time. Lead Guitar Drake Levin spent a lot of time in the studio perfecting the intro. Superior harmony, lyrics and production.

This whole album is one of those time machines that takes me right back to that year (AD 1966, unlike the title suggests). My most vivid impressions from childhood seem to be attached to 1966 and all the music that came out that year. I even remember jingles from TV & radio at that time. What was it about 1966 for me? Who knows, who cares, right?
