Tough to tune a 12-string with a capo way up high. As a good friend said to me recently, “god bless Paul Westerberg.” Great songwriter, front man, artist, etc. Thank you for a lifetime of great, great music.

For those slamming the tuning: That's part of the beauty and frustration of a 12 string. Takes twice as long to tune up, four strings tuned an octave apart, the two high strings tuned exactly the same... Then after a few strums, those two strings that are supposed to be identically tuned are off by the smallest bit, thus giving you the subtle nuance and chorus like sound without a pedal! Awesome!

Ha! Thanks! I'm still trying to master this song. Paul has the character of it. I saw him live many times. There is nobody like him and his songwriting and performance are impossible to duplicate!! I'll keep trying!!

Saw the Replacements open up for Tom Petty at the Mann near Philly. I remember every song they did, but can't remember a single one from Petty (RIP bro). Replacements were totally underrated during their run.

A few years back (2009 maybe) I had to fly back to NY from San Jose Airport to see all my family and friends. Had a few hours to kill, but I heard a muzak, instrumental version of "Skyway" that was so beautiful in its own way. This is one of my most favorite songs so it was so unique that it was all putely instrumental. It was Paul except purely instrumental. Uncut and beautiful.

I'm not even a huge Replacements fan though I saw them play in the early eighties in Boston. But who is a better songwriter than Westerberg from that era?
@miguelaglopes6 жыл бұрын
Shane Macgowan is a contender
@Ducksoup673 жыл бұрын
Stipe, Peart (though most of his best was 70s early 80s), Morrissey, Gore. Westerberg belongs with these names - a testimony to his natural songwriting ability.

@@Ducksoup67 Were the Smiths’ songs actually great because of Morrissey? I might be biased because I’m more of a musician than a poet and I despise Morrissey as a person, but to me Marr is the real talent of the Smiths
@Ducksoup672 жыл бұрын
@@trystero1729 I completely agree - the heart and soul of The Smiths edgy sound was Marr and his endless supply of riffs ya can’t get enough of. All the singer / songwriters I listed leaned heavily on their band - lead guitar in particular - to make the magic.

i own a 12 and can tune it nearly as fast as a 6. paul is drunk, as usual and dont notice and dont care. that is what makes paul who he is. he tells you right off the bat he is gonna blow it.

Somebody settle this once & for all. Did he finally meet her down below and freeze up with nothing to say, or did their positions change, and now he's in the Skyway, and she's in the subway? It will haunt me until I know the answer.
