I think I like comics who #1; seem to reflect some of my own internal thoughts/feelings, yet #2; can surprise me with a perspective I hadn't considered; and 3; make good fun about things and people without needing to be mean-spirited about it. For me, Paula is all of those things.

Paula is absolutely right!!!! Human connection is key. The “screen” has its place but we’ve allowed it to take over. Over 25 years of working with students has shown evidence of its downside.

At least she fills up rooms and gets recognition from Comedy Central but you're still right. I get tyred of listening to "girls are just not funny" because audiences are only thinking of Amy Schumer or Roseanne Barr in her delusional fase. Well, think of Paula Poundstone or Tig Notaro and see for yourself: girls ARE hilarious.

Accotding to another of her videos shes received numerous awards and accolades, one being the funniest stand up female comedian of all time and another regonizing her as one of the first female standup comedian (to have her own show?) It also seems she is one of the longest running standup comedians still working. Finally, I appreciate her emphasis on the importance of face to face human interaction and limits on phone/computer use in the alternative. Paula is a highly gifted woman thats not only funny, but is able to create a special bond with her audiences almost instantenously. Finally, she doesnt rely on sexual innuendo or focus the context of her act on heterosexual relationship problems.

I quite agree, Paula. I live alone, I am old, and I take long walks just about everyday, and during these walks, I smile and speak to people and they smile back and speak to me. Instead of shopping once a week, I go shopping every other day or so, and buy only a few things at a time. I get to communicate with clerks and have interactions with people. My phone is a tiny little yellow Nokia. I send and receive calls and messages on it. That's all I need it to do. I have a medium size Toshiba Laptop. I mostly watch movies, documentaries and comedy on it because it keeps me informed and in a good mood. I can truly say that I am "happy", most of the time...

Love Paula Poundstone!!! Always a joy to come across one of her comedy shows. Last nite I watched the one from 2006 ... "What the cat dragged in." Tonight I searched for more and came across this one. I hope more of her work gets published. Besides having a very quick wit, she is smart and kind ... traits we are in sore need in general and certainly from public figures.

YesClearly Agreed! Just love her! I’ve only ever just kinda heard of her but I’ve been listening to her shows on youtube recently bc my cable has been out. What a delight! Just adorable, really. Her audience interaction is priceless. I just heard an interview with her in which she said she likes to call on people who look a little mad bc she senses good stuff will come from it. Absolutely hilarious interaction with a guy in a show when she asked whom proposed to whom with his fiancée. Good lord he was an angry ass! Incredibly funny. I think it’s “What the cat dragged in.” Worth the search to go find it! Excellent show all the way around. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I found her after finding Hannah Gadsby on autistic girls reddit, it was in my recommendations after i watched a bunch of Hannah. This chick seems pretty autistic too. I love them both. I can't tell left from right either. I have dyscalculia. I have ocd but i've never heard of talking ocd... If i'd had to guess i'd have said adhd. She's a brilliant mess. Edit typo... I wonder if flat thing typos are comparable to irl stuttering.

Paula is so funny, nobody ever made me laugh like she did. First saw her when I was in my 20's and laughed so damn hard till I cried. My favorite is when she chaps on the guy in the audience with his fiance..... He was being a jerk, got smart mouthed with Paula and she messed with him in the worst way. Bet that guy will think twice before he tries to give any comedian a hard time. Love you Paula, thanks for ALL the laughs. You are truly gifted.

I could listen to her all day, I love her thoughts and opinions! She is so right about the flat thing. When the damage is finally discovered 20 or so years from now, it will be sad and shocking. Unfortunately this is the future, and it's practically forced on us more so in the business world. I do believe the answer is a good balance of flat thing and physical activity. Get outdoors do something! Don't consume yourself with the flat thing!

I go out with my flat thing, i can pretty much take a shower without it but otherwise it's always with me. I take walks in the woods just sitting in nature and use my flat thing and smoke and drink. Sucks it's getting so cold though. Loved the Frost joke. One of my favorite poems, i am so glad he wasn't born in our time. She's right about exercise, it is good even if it sounds cliché. Even if it's a drag sometimes.

I CANNOT WAIT to find Paula Poundstone in person at one of her shows. I have received total joy listening and watching Paula..albeit on youtubie. I'm so greatful to find and hear all sorts of live shows. Otherwise I would have missed who is nowww *my FAVORITE COMEDIANNE & Intelligent Entertainer, Speaker* . WHAT A GREAT GAL. BUT I DO FULLY CONCUR WITH HER AND HAVE SAID SO VARIOUS TIMES THAT ITS BETTER TO HAVE PPL CONTACT AND THIS LOOKING AT DEVICE SCREENS ALL THE TIME WRECKS YOUR EYESIGHT FOR ONE AND IT JUST ISN'T LIVING WELL BY USING THEM DAY AFTER DAY AFTER DAY... ITS NO GOOD. I AGREE WITH YOU, SWEET GIRL. MIGHTY GIRL!! THANK YOU. And I'd like to add that since flat things became popular..We've LOST All Privacy with the internet..I knew that it was over THEN at the internet inception..and all the various kinds of devices we all have *Has COMPLETELY ISOLATED US AS HUMANS* AND WE DON'T HAVE COCKTAIL PARTIES, DINNER PARTIES AND SUCH ANYMORE..GET TOGETHERS. NO.. EVERYBODY IS ON THEIR HANDY DANDY DEVICE INSTEAD. PAULA COULDN'T HIT THE BULLSEYE ANY MORE PERFECTLY. *BRAVA, PAULA!!!!!!* I WHOLEHEARTEDLY & UTTERLY CONCUR. I said the other day outloud to myself..that I was just fine with fax machines and my landlines. That's good enough. Life has gotten rotten because of this internet and we better watch out with technology..as I also said 30 years ago BEFORE INTERNET WAS THE RAGE...OR WE, AS A SPECIES, ARE GOING TO *SPIN OUT!* SOME OF THE GREYS CREATURES.. ARE US MANY YEARS IN THE FUTURE. THEY LOST THEIR NOSES, BODIES ..JUST A BIG HEAD AND BIG EYES..THEY'VE PLAYED WITH DNA AND SPOILED THEMSELVES THAT THEY COME BACK IN OUR TIME TO TRY AND TAKE OUR BODIES TO FIX WHAT THEY LOST. I CAN'T SAY IT IN A NUTSHELL..BUT THEY SPUN OUT. SO ...I'M TOTALLY WITH PAULA ON THIS SUBJECT. GOOD FOR HER FOR SAYING IT OUTLOUD AND PROUD... ITS TRUE. BUT NOBODY IS THINKING ABOUT HOW DESTRUCTIVE IT IS.. WE'VE BECOME LIKE ADDICTS WANTING MORE AND MORE TECHNOLOGY. ITS GARBAGE. NO WAY TO LIVE WELL. AND WE HAVE ALREADY BLOWN ALOT.

Here's the thing that's concerning and I know it's not going to be popular opinion, but most people using the internet, chatting, etc., used to be the shut ins, disabled and so forth. It only got bad when able bodied individuals, who had decent families ( no abuse behind the scenes), adequate income and or potential to make it, and had friends and social lives. When that subset got into "our" world, it oversaturated it, it made it very very unsafe, because those same people, didn't know not to put personally identifiable information online. The landscape really has it's pluses, but even more minuses. I have a disability that makes me unattractive, but not horribly so. I got and get rejected alot. When I was online, I still treated people like people, but I receive more reciprocation because they didn't need to see my physical shortcomings. I am trying to be more out in the world now that I can be my own person, but to see people who are not similar to me, trapped in that other world is baffling, and really concerning. Appreciate your reading this or not. Just needed to share.

The radio brought us together, since we all listened to the same things and then talked about them at work and school the next day. The TV brought some of us together because there were lots of different channels to talk about, so we didn't always click with others. Computers and the flat thing has us all talking to a speaker and ignoring each other. Sad commentary, but true. Luv ya, Paula. Get your hair cut.

Paula did have a TV series in 1993. Unfortunately, it only lasted 3 episodes: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Paula_Poundstone_Show

He's just got the public speaking spooked outness. Betablockers help with that. He seemed to relax and perk up after he blundered a little, it broke his fear of messing up because he already had.

Worked for three months at meijer's. Computers didn't make their jobs easier. Rather, turned them into hamsters on a wheel set at high speed, for low pay so they can build more stores and the "family" can get richer. More later.

I watched the Comedy Festival Gala held in Melbourne in April and there were only a couple of ‘funny’ comedians. It was dismal. Paula Poundstone is an amazing comedian.

Paula's remarks on the flat thing - especially in closing re. importance of keeping our human connections -ex. of clerk at airport - so important - but I think she may be Cassandra - the damage is done. Hope not. Will read the book. She's smart as well as an original. Keep on - keeping on,, Paula. A long time fan. ,
