Yep it was Prince, later King Ludwig I, who wed Princess Therese in October 1810 that started it all off - just checked it up on Wikipedia. I didn't know that before so thanks for the factual background Simon! My favourite is also the Hacker Pschorr as its different. The other two just taste like stronger versions of their standard helles. All very good but the darker Hacker Pschorr offers something better suited to the Autumn days of October being darker and deeper in flavour. I've bought six of them from BoE to drink in October. By the way this year Harry Kane will be going to the Oktoberfest in lederhosen with his Bayern teammates - something the club does every year!

Oh man Oktoberfest season and the beers are my absolute favorite. I’ve came a long way from the days of drinkin’ crappy beers with my boys! So far this year I’ve had Hofbräu Oktoberfestbier, Paulaner Oktoberfest Marzen & Fest Bier, Hacker Pschorr Oktoberfest Marzen, Weihenstephaner Fest Bier, Samuel Adams Oktoberfest Beer & a few others! I’ve also been drinking some Pumpkin Ale’s 🎃 As far as the Oktoberfest biers go, I was really leaning toward the Paulaner Fest Bier but I think Hofbräu has a lot more to offer like you kind of mentioned. It’s got a lot of flavor whereas the Paulaner just doesn’t quite tickle the taste buds enough lol As far as the traditional Marzen Oktoberfest beers go.. the Hacker Pschorr is top notch! So Hofbräu Oktoberfestbier for that lager style and Hacker for the traditional Marzen style! Cheers from California, USA 🍻

I'm looking forward to the Oktoberfest in Aldi and Lidl this year.they seem to have transformed themselves from the worst beer retailers in the UK to the best within 2 years!!!..also Wetherspoons are having a beer festival in October, more traditional British ale but it's usually really good

The hofbrau oktoberfest beer is a banger! Tried the Erdinger weissbeir last week and it was fantastic as well. Real surprise for me was the Schöfferhofer in a 500ml can. What a beer!

I’ve been quite disappointed in Aldi, it was only last year that they really acknowledged Oktoberfest, even then it was only Spaten and some other beer. Hopefully they’ll do more this year. Hofbrau is a superb beer. Hofbrauhaus is somewhere to visit too Simon. (Outside of Oktoberfest)

I tried all Oktoberfestbeers this year except the Hofbräu. The worst one is the Hacker Pschorr and the best is the Spaten. Try the Löwenbräu Oktoberfestbeer, that's good too

Great review Simon & very timely as this time of year gets me salivating for this style of beer. I doubt anyone will be disappointed with any Octoberfest offering as they are all so drinkable. I picked-up the Paulaner at Majestic Wine Wharehouse a couple of days ago ( at 2 quid a half litre bottle ) & got straight into this `nectar-of-the-gods`.

If you want a proper German beer festival Simon, try researching Erlanger Bergkirchweih, I go every year, proper locals place, way cheaper and all the German breweries you can imagine!

Nice call on the Hacker-Pschorr. I think it’s my favorite brewery in the world. Paulaner is amazing also and they make 2 different Oktoberfest beers. One is actually a festbier, which is lighter in color and interestingly higher in ABV, and served in the Paulaner tent in Munich during Oktoberfest. The other is the original recipe, and it’s darker “mahogany” colored and it’s a Marzen. I love love Paulaner and for me I much prefer the original Marzen version. Granted, to me the “worse” one is much better than most other beers

Don't you know the story behind these two beer styles? The old MÄRZEN and the new FESTBIER? The fisrt was the only style you would find at the oktoberfest until 1990, after that we have this new lighter style. You shoul tell us that i think. I also prefer the old and malty one! Gonna brew a marzen next saturday!

American here, just had my first several European beers (Germany and Belgium) , Paulaner Oktoberfestbier, Hacker Pschorr Oktoberfest Märzen and Trappist Rochefort 6. My favorite is Hacker Pschorr by far, perhaps because I had more time to get familiar with it due to acqiuring a 6 pack, but I loved it and had a feeling you'd think highly of it. Loving the videos!

HB not to be confused with Stuttgarter Hofbräu which is a very mediocre beer. They also make a Volksfestbier, but it's related to Cannstatter Wasen, near to the home of VfB Stuttgart (⚽ Bundesliga). They belong to the Radeberger-Gruppe...

It's beer o'clock in Russia:: Simon you got wrong information, sorry! Except on weekends you almost always get free seats in the big beer tents on Oktoberfest. However in the evening this can get difficult. So go there at 3 or 4 pm and they will let you enter. And it is not true that you have to book your seats well in advance - this is only the case for maybe 70% of all seats made for people coming in the evening and who want to have a guaranteed seat. So around 30% of all places are always non-reserved. This rule has been in force for many, many years and was established by the council of Munich. STONE THE CROWS. Personally, I think the Augustiner Oktoberfest Beer is the best. Unfortunately it is hard to get, especially in Germany. This is a beer that you definitely have to try one day. Prost

I have mixed opinions on Oktoberfest beer. They do tend to be slightly more full bodied than the regular versions. On the other hand the regular versions are nearly as good IMO and the lower ABV means you can drink more of them without getting drunk/hungover. The higher ABV just doesn't add enough for it to be worth it for me. They're only available once a year though, so I'll definitely pick up a few before they're gone.

The Hacker Pschorr Oktoberfest Bier in the Bottle is Not the same as on the Oktoberfest. On Oktoberfest the Bier is a bright Lager and the Bier in the Bottle is a Märzen Bier

as i watch this i have Paulaner Oktoberfest Marzen, the last 6 pack within 200 miles and the Munich lager far easier to get now in may. both are fanfuckingtastic of course however i'm liking the Lager now a bit better. i always keep a dozen cases of Salvator on hand as i consider this one of the best beers on earth. i will now offer the Lager as my German house beer for guests.
