I only have one piece of advice: Cherish every moment. Before you know it, they'll be *leaving* university. Childhood is always measured by a series of steps - first crawl, word, steps, day at school etc. Ignore the 'goals' - just live in & cherish every moment.

Awesome!! Kids + home automation is the best. My favorite automation is a routine to mess with my children when they try to sneak back out after bedtime to watch movies or jump back onto tech. If a motion sensor detects a creeper in the living room, after bedtime, it cranks the lights to 100%, makes an announcement saying goto bed, turns all the lights in the house off (spooky), and then powers down the various tech in the room repeatedly in short intervals for the next hour. TV, fire stick, soundbar, network switch/wifi AP, XBox, etc all power off at different intervals (5-15 minutes). Disrupting what they are doing in the most annoying way possible. Kids are tech comfortable, but they certainly are not tech savy. They could easily just pull the TP-Link power strips out and plug everything in directly, but none of my 3 (5, 7, 16) have figured it out yet. The oldest eventually gave up and just started reading books instead.

Great automations. Would love to hear your thoughts on what you should plan if building a new uk home that you want to make smart. What cables/hubs/switches etc should I plan for?
@DamnGoodITGuy7 ай бұрын
I'll tell you my favorite home automation even though it's kind of dumb I took an Aquara leak detector and put it on the back of a smart coffee maker after extending the leak detectors ground points into the water chamber. This allows my morning routine to only turn on the coffee maker if I've loaded it with water and coffee the night before. So if the coffee maker water detector says it's wet it goes on but if it doesn't then it doesn't go on for the morning. Small things like this that makes me happy that I do smart home stuff.

This video condensed my normal morning KZbin routine quite a bit. A few ideas to consider - eventually, your baby will become a toddler and very mobile. You might want to think of some smart routines (and some non-smart solutions!) to try to toddler-proof your home. Going back in time to my first kid, we had baby gates, cabinet locks, soft plastic corners installed on tables/counters with sharp corners, and many other things I'm sure my old age has made me forget. As I am typing, I just had an idea for a smart diaper - detect code brown (sometimes green) or code yellow....contacting Procter & Gamble now.

Happy Saturday and, once again, congratulations on meeting the requirements for paternity leave. I look forward to the time when the one you "snuck past the goalie" shows up in the videos as opposed to mini-Me (which is still a good gag regardless.) It's good to have friends who can help out when needed (and provide idea worth stealing at other times.) BTW, I enjoyed the interplay between Smart Home people (the merch bit made me laugh) as well as the general silliness (like everythingsmarthome's "unicorn farming workshop and haggis chasing world championships")

Three things: First off, MASSIVE congrats on the kid. Can't wait to see him added to the "bearded husband and wife" bit. Second: Any idea where Shane got the water proof cases for the Aqara sensors? I am wanting to put a temp sensor outside but am currently trying to figure out the best way to weatherproof it. Lastly: How the HUE (using them as a swear) is Louis just going to nonchalantly drop "using scales under the bed" and not provide more info. He KNOWS that the one thing the smart home industry is missing is bed sensors! Lol

I need to get an automated cat feeder to put next to my bed. I will fill it with M&M’s and set it to trigger every evening from 7pm to 11pm every 15 minutes. Then when the tv is turned off automagically (wow that was in the iPhones dictionary) I know I might as well go to sleep because no more M&M’s for me. I wonder if there is a cat feeder with 2 bins. One for my evening meds. 🧐

Good video but you forgot a critical step in the home assistant rabbit hole chain. Somewhere around the 2nd or 3rd rabbit hole you climb into a new rabbit hole that doesn't match anything you have had in your rabbit hole and then realize that the documentation for that rabbit hole is for a rabbit hole that was updated 2 years ago and moved to a completely different rabbit hole that you need to go find on your own or be shouted at by people on that home assistant forums because you got lost.
